We now just have to win one out of two in Dallas to position ourselves for a better chance to win this series. Holiday was so damn good tonight! No one in NBA Finals history had ever had 25+ pts, 10+ rebs,and 75+ FG% with zero turnovers! Un freaking real. Not to mention his defense. He and White once again were lockdown and White’s three & block in crunch time were crucial. Oh and Tatum? Sure he struggled a bit with his shooting, but he was just 1 rebound short of a triple-double. And the only 3 Celts to ever have those numbers (18, 9 & 12) in the Finals? Bird, Cousy and Big Deuce. These guys once again showed poise and did not panic when Dallas cut the lead to 103-98 with 1:15 left. White delivered on defense, JB seals it with the layup. KP said he’s ready to die for Banner 18 and although I still think Dallas could get one at home, momentum is definitely with this group. You just know someone is going to make a big play when it really matters. I mean we missed 29 threes-but still won by 7. Locked On Celtics- What a game, last night!... I hope the Boston Celtics can pull off a win in Game 3 in "The Big D.", but, I'm somewhat nervous due to the fact that home-court will be possible factor in Wednesday night.
I think coming back from Dallas 3-1 is a good result. Kyrie and Luka are a threat to go off at any point, but I think it is very possible to sweep them!

This Celtics team has been making me rethink my assumption that in order to win in the playoffs, you need great offensive output from your best player. Although Tatum has contributed in other ways, he has not been great offensively and yet this team has so many great players, that I can see Tatum not having a good championship series and this stacked team can still win this series. This team is often scary good.
That is a media driven narrative, propagated by former NBA players, who are stars. It is an ego centric point of view. The Celtics should win because they have a better team. One through six can score and play very good defense. Mavs don’t have that.
Obviously Duncan is an all-time great but in the later years of those great Spurs teams when he wasn't in the top 5ish players in the NBA - those were just really well-balanced rosters. That's a blueprint to building a deep roster if you don't have a top scoring star. Built similar to how this Celtics team is. Both teams with just great rosters with limited flaws. Brad did a great job building this squad.
I have been calling for a sweep for both the ECF and Finals since the 2nd series. And I am glad that we went with Jaylen on Luka. KP going down is no bueno though.
This was a Celtic's typical 2024 playoff Game 2 scenario where something in their game was off. This game was won because the Celtics refused to let an abnormal night of 3 PNT shooting get them down. They earned a solid win instead of going full iso-ball. Even when Porzingis was out. The team showed their maturity and focus and found a way to win. Well earned C's.
celtics figured out basketball is a team sport - you need the whole team including reserves to excel in their roles - you need playmakers at all positions - they are not about individual hero ball anymore and that is both the roster construction and jayson and jaylen learning the hard way - it is impressive to see
We played poorly offensively...we could never get into a flow...we had to grind for 48 minutes to win...the defense was the diff tonight...this should have been the Mavs game to win and yet...they failed again!

I just don't understand why the national narrative about JT isn't how great players (and potential MVP's) find a way to contribute even when the shots aren't falling. He is 2nd in +/-, grabbing every board he can, making so many smart passes, and playing above average D. One common thread of the entire JTJB era had been a team first mentality and an elite defense. In that situation, maybe leading in boards and assists should be given more weight.
For the most part it was such a bad game for both teams. It just felt so stop and go, foul then maybe a small run? Timeout, then block and turnover. Both teams just couldn’t get a rhythm and there was just tension brewing. I honestly thought if it came down to a 1 possession game in the final moments of the 4th it would be a 50-50 game at that point. But then that block… it’s been a while since I’ve seen a defensive performance like this from a team especially in the modern NBA. It was truly a sight to see 5 guys just put it all out there despite shots not falling, they were so in tune with each other defensively.

We need to highlight the real reason the Cs won .. when the 3 ball wasn’t falling they stopped the Mazzula ball of chucking up a million 3s and FINALLY was going to the rim all second qtr and that kept the game close with poor shooting. If they did what they had been doing in other situations like this just shooting 3s missing mavs would’ve been up 10 at the half maybe more . The 3s that were taken in the second half were good quality shots where they moved the ball around. The main issue with the Wolves is that they only have 2 scorers in Edwards and KAT. KAT had 4 bad games and the game where he scored effectively, the Wolves won. The Celtics does not have offensive issues due to their firepower in all 5 starters. Individually, they can score 20 pts + a night on any given night. This Celtics team has been making me rethink my assumption that in order to win in the playoffs, you need great offensive output from your best player. Although Tatum has contributed in other ways, he has not been great offensively and yet this team has so many great players, that I can see Tatum not having a good championship series and this stacked team can still win this series. This team is often scary good.
That is a media driven narrative, propagated by former NBA players, who are stars. It is an ego centric point of view.
The Celtics should win because they have a better team. One through six can score and play very good defense. Mavs don’t have that.
Obviously Duncan is an all-time great but in the later years of those great Spurs teams when he wasn't in the top 5ish players in the NBA - those were just really well-balanced rosters. That's a blueprint to building a deep roster if you don't have a top scoring star. Built similar to how this Celtics team is. Both teams with just great rosters with limited flaws. Brad did a great job building this squad.

This was a Celtic's typical 2024 playoff Game 2 scenario where something in their game was off. This game was won because the Celtics refused to let an abnormal night of 3 PNT shooting get them down. They earned a solid win instead of going full iso-ball. Even when Porzingis was out. The team showed their maturity and focus and found a way to win. Well earned C's.
celtics figured out basketball is a team sport - you need the whole team including reserves to excel in their roles - you need playmakers at all positions - they are not about individual hero ball anymore and that is both the roster construction and jayson and jaylen learning the hard way - it is impressive to see

I just don't understand why the national narrative about JT isn't how great players (and potential MVP's) find a way to contribute even when the shots aren't falling. He is 2nd in +/-, grabbing every board he can, making so many smart passes, and playing above average D. One common thread of the entire JTJB era had been a team first mentality and an elite defense. In that situation, maybe leading in boards and assists should be given more weight.

For the most part it was such a bad game for both teams. It just felt so stop and go, foul then maybe a small run? Timeout, then block and turnover. Both teams just couldn’t get a rhythm and there was just tension brewing. I honestly thought if it came down to a 1 possession game in the final moments of the 4th it would be a 50-50 game at that point.
But then that block… it’s been a while since I’ve seen a defensive performance like this from a team especially in the modern NBA. It was truly a sight to see 5 guys just put it all out there despite shots not falling, they were so in tune with each other defensively.

Spot on John with the level of DISCIPLINE on defense that the C's have shown compared to what the wolves have shown. I would add the level of experience as well. Celtics are battle tested and have seen it all and it would take a catastrophe to lose this series. I said C's in 6 BUT if they play great defense it would go less. Tatum was 2 made 3's (and maybe 2 fewer questionable jumpers) away from a 8-20, 24, 12, 9 game. He got turnovers under control as well.
We need to highlight the real reason the Cs won .. when the 3 ball wasn’t falling they stopped the Mazzula ball of chucking up a million 3s and FINALLY was going to the rim all second qtr and that kept the game close with poor shooting. If they did what they had been doing in other situations like this just shooting 3s missing mavs would’ve been up 10 at the half maybe more . The 3s that were taken in the second half were good quality shots where they moved the ball around. John, you were merely stating facts. Facts using stats from the whole season onward to the current Playoffs. Mavs are a good team, however they beat a Clippers' team without Kawhi. They then beat a very young and experienced team in OKC. With Minnesota, they had some very close games beating the the Wolves by one possession the first 2 games. However, as you have eloquently stated, the Boston Celtics are not the Timberwolves. The Wolves were not discliped defensively in those games. The Mavs scored 100 pts or more in every single game. The main issue with the Wolves is that they only have 2 scorers in Edwards and KAT. KAT had 4 bad games and the game where he scored effectively, the Wolves won. The Celtics does not have offensive issues due to their firepower in all 5 starters. Individually, they can score 20 pts + a night on any given night. You can't just trap JT or JB without giving up some wide open 3s'. Should be a very short series, with the Mavs winning one game with Luka & Kyrie going off. But Celtics should win in about 5 games.
