I remember the very first time I heard Skintight on the radio. Skintight was one of the first songs I learned and Marshall Jones was one of my first bass heroes.
Nice job! Please do a part 2 that includes the chorus, which is an integral part of this legendary song. Thanks in advance. (Just a funk enthusiast from the Land of Funk...Dayton, Ohio)
Yeah I like that the new mic Ted, can definitely tell a difference..... Skin tight is one of the first bass lines I learned at only a year and change in this journey of learning the bass.... Classic funk at it's finest!
I learned this song in HS (early 90's) without ever hearing it live. For some reason I thought it was their song Fire, and the way it was taught to me ended up blending bits and pieces from the two songs!! There's still a groove that I'm yet to identify from whatever it was I was taught (my teacher taught me the line & would have played guitar over it), but I'll either nail it down or steal it for something else. Completely aside, you should check out the Live in Albany version of Tommy Bolin's Post Toastee. I would have learned that around the same time, and just recently came across the live version (which is wicked cool). In all, it's a jam session with 3 or even 4 different grooves. It's especially pertinent to Skin tight, b/c the groove & keys are similar, yet a whole different song exists here.
Good stuff here… if you get a chance a tutorial on Smooth Sailing by the Isley Brothers would be greatly appreciated I believe it’s Nathan East playing the groove and it was written by Angela Wimbush.. very underrated bass line
Delivered your channel by accident but very glad I did! I’m a guitarist.I’ve been teaching myself bass guitar with a Sire PBass and looking to learn more from your channel.
Love your videos. I was wondering if you could. Name the frets and strings along with the notes. It would help the beginners like myself get the song down a lil quicker. I'm 56 years just learning to play bass. I take lessons but, my daily schedule make it a lil tough. I'm getter there tho😊
Oh you went NASTY on this one.... hope things are going well bruh.... yep, break out the gangster air car freshener (remember those?) cause it "stanks" up in here.
thanks for video, your mike does sound better.. I have been watching videos for awhile. Not sure if you take suggestion, if so. take a look at Chante Moore Love's taken over
on gone gone !!!! One of the funkiest bass lines ever! I still can't wrap my head around the beat misdirection that happens when the horns come in. To my ears it sounds like one of those mistakes that worked well enough and they went with it (Start Me Up), but tell me how to count that thing from the opening riff and you are a better man than I!
Thanks for the bass guitar tutorial! Can you please record a tutorial on the riff on the M M song called “Red Baron”? I’m going to try to decode it, but your teaching of bass lines and riffs is very easy to understand.
RIP - Marshall Jones was a great player. Thanks for another great video.
Nailed it!
Two years prior to this album they played our high school prom. After Skin Tight...no way could a high school afford them!

Your tutorials are the bomb- thank you brotha!
You do a nice job.How I wish I had the learning tools of today back when ruining albums was the only way to learn songs.👍
Ted thank you very much for this tutorial. It has helped me a great deal. Much respect and much appreciated.
