  • Meet comedy mastermind Adam McKay, the Oscar®-nominated writer and director of “The Big Short” - which is up for five Academy Awards®, including best picture - and Michael Lewis, the award-winning author of the best seller about the 2008 financial crisis on which the movie is based. “The Big Short,” which stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt, and was produced by Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, is a compelling and entertaining cinematic indictment of the real-life events that led to the credit and housing bubble collapse. In his review in The New York Times, film critic A. O. Scott called it “A true crime story and a madcap comedy, a heist movie and a scalding polemic.” Hear more about the film and what inspired it when McKay and Lewis talk with The New York Times senior editor Charles Duhigg.

What a great insight it was to say that financial services
are 'Tax Collectors'. The odd thing is that the public have been persuaded that
tax collection by democratic institutions for the public good is bad, and an outrage,
whilst tax collecting for enormously rich private individuals is good,
glamorous, exciting, and the most natural thing in the world.

17:54-18:00: What a disgusting turn of events. You have to either be emotionally blind or a sadist to even allow yourself to such a swing at a conversation.

Why? Knowing the background of the creators can help give us an understanding of their point of view.
