yeah Toronto did draft him, however he was still in contract, so we had to do a one year buyout for his two year contract, therefore he's coming in 2012-2013 season.
Looks like all this guy needs is muscle. He's got some clever moves underneath the basket to get into shooting position. Very smart. I wish he were on my team!
There was some stat about how DeAndre took less than 5 shots outside of 6 feet from the basket last season, virtually arm's-length. I'm not rewatching it and it's been awhile since I saw it, but I'm pretty sure most, if not all of the highlights *IN THIS VIDEO* finish in a layup, dunk, or block. It's okay if you don't know who DeAndre Jordan is, though.
he wasn't comparing him to hakeem. he was saying how valuable footwork is. which this guy clearly has in the post, if you did watch the video. and i don't know how you could see any comparisons to him and deandre jordan lmao.
definitely. now they finally have the right coach in sam mitchell who can teach those guys some defense. offensively they won't have any problems with this lineup
what I noticed about him is that he is good at positioning without the ball so its better for him to hes fast but the strength I think he needs to work it out and also the muscles he need to beef it up!
Hey, he could prove me wrong, no doubt. I highly doubt he will though. Looking at this video it seems he doesnt have many post moves and 80% of his points come off open lanes and simple lobs over short defenders. What's he going to do when a Tyson Chandler puts a body on him?
I'm surprised that other teams didn't want him because they couldn't have him right away. The Raptors will probably get the 6th or 7th pick in a good draft class. So next year they'll have two good rookies. If Jonas came to the NBA right away they might have improved their record and got a mid round pick.
great player im assuming he will play center because barganani shoots lots of jump shots. the raptors problem has never been offense it's the defense and rebounding.
he's pretty agile for his position. strength can be developed so it's workable. he can afford to be "soft" because he has a perimeter touch. i'd rather have a "soft" (which i don't think he is. not very strong, maybe) big man with range than a center who's all jump. and with the scarcity of competent centers in NBA, he will be worth watching. i would say, 17pts-9reb guy.
Omg, that doesn't mean he's soft.. He still bangs inside, he still likes contact, he's still a tough low post defender, he still goes up and grabs boards. Yes, he needs to get stronger and he's skinny, so you're 100% right about that, but by no means does that make him soft. A soft player isn't someone who is skinny; a soft player is someone who shys away from contact. Valanciunas isn't soft, not even close, and if you wanna convince me that he is, you're gunna need a better argument than that.
well then clearly you havent seen him play against Germany or Spain this year because he totally PROVED that hes gonna be, at the very least, a solid NBA player (he has star potential for sure) you arent going to find many front courts better than Kaman and Nowitzki in the NBA on a regular basis and he totally owned Kaman and blocked Dirk twice.. and he also played really well in limited action against the Gasol brothers when he played Spain. This kids gonna tear it up for the Raps!
I don't know if he's athletic enough to compete with the likes of a lot of big men in the NBA. I see him being more like a Luise Scola or Marcin Gortat. A crafty low post scorer, hustle guy, with a good offensive touch around the rim and a nose for rebounds. He's not in the class of say, Blake Griffin or Andrew Bynum. He'll have a solid role in the NBA, but I can't see it going much further than that. I starting Role Player at best.
All I wanted to know was what I was missing that makes him above average in this clip footage. No need to be a disrespectful ****. Don't get me wrong, I want to see this guy do well in the NBA and I look forward to seeing him play with the Raptors next season, but I think we ought to hold off with comparing him to one of the greatest centers to ever play the game in Hakeem Olajuwon. Got it?
i don't know why you attribute not being soft to someone who's all jump. i'd rather have a center who rebounds, plays defense and gets his shots in the low post over any center who is going to be taking perimeter shots. we don't need another bargnani.
Dirk was soft up until 2010, and Im a huge Dirk fan. Bargs is soft but JV17 will not be like those two; hes not worried about hitting a jump shot he wants rebounds and dunks!
lol only problem he travels a lot. but yeah u make a great argument i think he plays like a mix of tim duncan and pau gasol. But in the nba hes probs gonna LOOK soft cuz first hes too skinny, second his blocking isn't that great, lastly not a high verticle so his blocks are more likely to be called fouls. Yeah ur right he doesn't shy from contact.
Yeah wtf people think this Jonas is gonna be better than dwight right now? You don't go from rookie to Perennial all-star like dwight. First if he was better he would be the #1 pick. Your deff right he is no where near dwight.
lol alright you've been caught, it's obvious you've never seen Jonas Valanciunas play if you think he's "soft". Jonas isn't like a lot of those other European big men.
The footwork pal ;) learn a little about basketball, then watch this video again and watch his feet. That is what Separated Hakeem Olajuwon for Bill Cartright. Got it?
NBA is soft, there is way more contact in the Euroleague, bet you dont even watch it dude. You don't get the same ticky tacky fouls like in the NBA. The NBA has more talent though
Raptors choose another Euro player in hopes of becoming a Manu. Don't see anything special in Jonas, just another Bargnani. Raptors need to get there head out of the gutter and look at top college prospects. Euro League is soft, dont bother saying it isn't.
THIS GUY IS GOING TO BE A STAR IN NBA!!!
It's remarkable on how under-rated this guy is
wow he seems to be very promising i like his intensity and toughness. lot of potential!!
This guy will be a star!
Valanciunas+Bargnani+Lowry+Derozan = PlayOffs
This guy has so much potential. Can't wait for him to wear a Raptors uniform next year. I'm a huge fan of him :D
what a monster of a player. hes gonna be big.
yeah Toronto did draft him, however he was still in contract, so we had to do a one year buyout for his two year contract, therefore he's coming in 2012-2013 season.
Looks like all this guy needs is muscle. He's got some clever moves underneath the basket to get into shooting position. Very smart. I wish he were on my team!

he is such a bauce, cannot wait to see him next year on the raptors
I'm not even a Raptors fan but I wish them the best with this guy. Hope he doesn't end up a bust.
thanks for the complement xD
this guy plays like a BOSS
this is going to be awesome!
The key here is that he is able to create his own shot/dunk in the post. DJ does nothing but open dunks and lay-ups.
Bargnani and Valanciunas! Here we come playoffs!!!!!!!
he wasn't comparing him to hakeem. he was saying how valuable footwork is. which this guy clearly has in the post, if you did watch the video. and i don't know how you could see any comparisons to him and deandre jordan lmao.
definitely. now they finally have the right coach in sam mitchell who can teach those guys some defense. offensively they won't have any problems with this lineup
Best comparison...Kenyon Martin
what I noticed about him is that he is good at positioning without the ball so its better for him to hes fast but the strength I think he needs to work it out and also the muscles he need to beef it up!
@TheMatthewGardner Very thanks ;) Song Name Hi-Fly - Clockin
J-VICIOUS WOAH hope this guy brings back the raps
this guy is built just like javale mcgee, same height and wingspan. He makes dunking look soo easy
Hey, he could prove me wrong, no doubt. I highly doubt he will though. Looking at this video it seems he doesnt have many post moves and 80% of his points come off open lanes and simple lobs over short defenders. What's he going to do when a Tyson Chandler puts a body on him?
um, you mean dwayne casey right?
I'm surprised that other teams didn't want him because they couldn't have him right away. The Raptors will probably get the 6th or 7th pick in a good draft class. So next year they'll have two good rookies. If Jonas came to the NBA right away they might have improved their record and got a mid round pick.
great player im assuming he will play center because barganani shoots lots of jump shots. the raptors problem has never been offense it's the defense and rebounding.
Can the olympics start already!!!!!! Can't wait to see how he does against Tyson chandler and anthony davis.
he's pretty agile for his position. strength can be developed so it's workable. he can afford to be "soft" because he has a perimeter touch. i'd rather have a "soft" (which i don't think he is. not very strong, maybe) big man with range than a center who's all jump. and with the scarcity of competent centers in NBA, he will be worth watching. i would say, 17pts-9reb guy.
I'd like to somehow see Nash in the Raptors playing pick&roll with this guy...
I don't see how this guy can be good in the the NBA>
Great vid!
program do u use?
Omg, that doesn't mean he's soft.. He still bangs inside, he still likes contact, he's still a tough low post defender, he still goes up and grabs boards. lol i love how JV gets so fuckin hyped over and1 plays but shows like no emotion when he dunks. can't wait to see him in a raptors uniform next year
Big V gonna be top 10 C in his first year!
well then clearly you havent seen him play against Germany or Spain this year because he totally PROVED that hes gonna be, at the very least, a solid NBA player (he has star potential for sure)
you arent going to find many front courts better than Kaman and Nowitzki in the NBA on a regular basis and he totally owned Kaman and blocked Dirk twice.. and he also played really well in limited action against the Gasol brothers when he played Spain. This kids gonna tear it up for the Raps!
BEAST
did anyone tell the raptors that they are aloud to draft from with in america
Jonas.... You're my last hope for the Raptors. BRING US BACK INTO THE PLAYOFFS
His first couple years are going to be rough. Young centres tend to be foul prone and in the NBA, rookies don't get any calls.
I don't know if he's athletic enough to compete with the likes of a lot of big men in the NBA. I see him being more like a Luise Scola or Marcin Gortat. A crafty low post scorer, hustle guy, with a good offensive touch around the rim and a nose for rebounds. He's not in the class of say, Blake Griffin or Andrew Bynum. edit the title it should be Lietuvos Rytas, not Lietuvas Rytas
Those 2 are gonna be fighting down low with both of them playing as center.
hope you use it
All I wanted to know was what I was missing that makes him above average in this clip footage. No need to be a disrespectful ****. Got it?
sam mitchell is going to lead us to the playoffs...WOOOOO!!!!!!!!
wait y isnt he in the nba ddnt they draft him!?!?!?!
He should pray that Nash accepts that $36M offer by the Raptors, coz Nash will make him an even better offensive threat
This 17 will pawn the Laker's 17
Soooooong name? :)
i don't know why you attribute not being soft to someone who's all jump. i'd rather have a center who rebounds, plays defense and gets his shots in the low post over any center who is going to be taking perimeter shots. we don't need another bargnani.
this dude averaged around 70% on field goals for some of his seasons...now i understand why
so channing tatum is a basketball player now..
at least he will have team members in Toronto who will throw him the ball....
Can he play good D tho and i dont mean just blockin shots i mean actual D witout fouling
i thought Nick Brown was drafted 5th by raptos last year LOL
his position is center, he shouldnt need do much jump shots.
He isn't soft as an euroleague he has strength but he isn't heavy enough to play in NBA
I like Big V !!!!!
just give us andrew wiggins
Rookie of the year right here forget Anthony Davis
Dirk was soft up until 2010, and Im a huge Dirk fan. Bargs is soft but JV17 will not be like those two; hes not worried about hitting a jump shot he wants rebounds and dunks!
Palinkekim Jonui sekmes NBA!
"Struggles guarding stronger players ... Still skinny" - NBADraft.net

not anymore.
Dar viena kylanti zvaigzde , ir vel is L.ryto :)
np
@Valodziukas Check out the Hi-Fly Channel. The man makes awesome beats.
Yeah wtf people think this Jonas is gonna be better than dwight right now? You don't go from rookie to Perennial all-star like dwight. First if he was better he would be the #1 pick. Your deff right he is no where near dwight.
well his offense is already better than howards
Euro-Blake.
@LUKIS07 good spot. done.
And only 19.
Wouldn't go that far.
lol alright you've been caught, it's obvious you've never seen Jonas Valanciunas play if you think he's "soft". Jonas isn't like a lot of those other European big men.
He reminds me of a raw tim duncan but better shooting.
Poor guy is going to have so many offensive interference calls I feel bad for him and I hate that rule NBA should be more like the Euro leagues
RAPTORS BABY!!!!!
Truuuuu
Too skinny? They said the same about Kevin Garnett....Anthony Davis is skinny too....if Valanciunas can keep the could down he'll be a great player...
The footwork pal ;)
learn a little about basketball, then watch this video again and watch his feet. That is what Separated Hakeem Olajuwon for Bill Cartright. Got it?
I mean no offense to any of the fans here, but this guy looks like he will be another typical raptor, getting torn apart by the competition*
Anyone think he gonna turn soft in the nba? or is it jus me..
Andre Drummond still a better defender and shot blocker.
he's long and can finish
lmfao
LMAOOOO
Yeah well at least I ain't a soft Euro Basketball player. :/
LOL nba 2k12
NBA is soft, there is way more contact in the Euroleague, bet you dont even watch it dude. You don't get the same ticky tacky fouls like in the NBA. The NBA has more talent though
I disliked..because I wanted to break the bar
Raptors choose another Euro player in hopes of becoming a Manu. Don't see anything special in Jonas, just another Bargnani. Raptors need to get there head out of the gutter and look at top college prospects. Euro League is soft, dont bother saying it isn't.
Are you on drugs? Are you 12 years old?...He won't be better than Dwight Howard.
bust.
overrated
