"Eating butter for millennia " My great grandfather (in the 1970's) was 99 years old when he broke his hip and was in the hospital. The young doctor, read his sky high cholesterol and put him on a low cholesterol diet. My Pap said, in his old world accent, "Where the hell my bacon and eggs. I have bacon and eggs. Every day." The doc tried to explain to him about cholesterol. My Pap said, "Sonny, I'm 99 years old. If bacon and eggs are not good for me, I'd be dead by now." So they gave him back his bacon and eggs. Now we know how right my Pap was. He died two years later at 101. He ate bacon and eggs, black coffee, skipped lunch and had a late dinner at sundown. No snacks.

    • @fluffingfluff
      @fluffingfluff 2 года назад +3

@@EmilEngholmSrensen Well, I guess science needs to catch up then. Science has got millions of people on the insulin drugs for years without any results, now for the second time in human history, it's been clinically proven that it can reverse fatty liver and diabetes. Companies like Novonordics have made huge money profiting on the sick instead of helping them. Science in many ways, especially in this day and age serves as a major bottleneck for new knowledge and human exploration. Just because we can't prove something using our very limited scientific knowledge, doesn't mean it's not true. Now, it can be false too, but at least so far everyone is doing great following Dr. Fung's advice. Science still can't explain blackholes yet, but that doesn't mean they are not there.

Dr. Fung is legit. I read Obesity code after I gained so much weight during the pandemic. My heaviest at 220lbs. I was 195lb two years ago when pandemic started. My former eating pattern is Eating ALL The Time. No kidding. I thought snacking was healthy. I struggled with rollercoaster weight all my life. I never thought about fasting. I changed my habits to only eat during meal times. If I do end up eating processed/sugary foods I basically prolong the fasting period so insulin levels can drop. I stopped calorie counting and do my best to focus on what I’m eating.
208lbs first week of Jan 2022. Now 198lbs 4 weeks later. Still have a goal of 175lbs and the goal is to be that by August 2022.
Best wishes everyone. You can do it.✌🏽

Being from Argentina I grew up eating steak and salad for lunch and dinner, a piece of fruit for dessert. We had to walk everywhere we had to go. The word “snack” is not in our vocabulary…after our meals “they kitchen was closed” according to my mother! Obesity is very rare in this part of the world!

Jason Fung is a valuable human being and his book on fasting proved of great importance to me . I've personally logged over 1200 hours of fasting since the beginning of June this year (though I've utilized extended fasts occasionally for many years). My main reasons for doing this amount of fasting recently were to develop a more positive relationship with the sensation of hunger, autophagy and increasing my levels of insulin sensitivity. I didn't need to lose weight and infact I find my bodyweight has remained largely the same. I most certainly have lost some body fat but i've gained some muscle as I have made strength increases in that time both in the gym and at the climbing wall.
I've also developed deeper levels of discipline and self control which has helped me learn more about myself.
I've fell in love with fasting. It's became a vital part of my everyday life.

It really cracks me up when people say that fat people don’t have willpower because they have done more diets going against the natural grain, sticking to these insane low-calorie diets for weeks or months which is completely unnatural. They’ve got more willpower than some blow hard in a gym lifting weights and then the blowhard is the one telling them all the faulty information. Yeah, I’ve got no time for that bullshit. Thank God Dr. Fung is sticking up for people who have been lied to by virtually our entire society for their whole lives. I’m glad the info is getting out there now. Another thing is not just that the government puts hearts on the crappy packaged “foods” but that they okayed high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, saccharine, etc. in the first place. I think something far more nefarious is going on with regards to eugenics than most people want to acknowledge so I’m gonna leave it there.

I’ve listened to Dr. Fung over a year and he has been so helpful in my weight loss journey. Right now I am 50+pounds down due to keto and intermittent fasting. Now I am at a healthy weight and maintaining. My daughter, who is an autistic young adult had A1C’s on the pre-diabetic level. She is very food fixated/limited and very sedentary when not at work. I told her she must go keto with me……..NOPE she said. So our compromise was intermittent fasting where she most days eats once a day--things she likes, which are usually high carb. Well, she is down 32 pounds now and going strong. She started at 198, now at 166 and losing…..and SHE is happy now that other people are noticing her weight loss. We haven’t rechecked her A1C’s yet, but I’m betting with her doing intermittent fasting (in addition to eating my low carb desserts most of the time now instead of “bad” desserts) her levels are now “normal”. Thanks Dr. Fung!!!!!

This is simple back to the basics information that Dr. Fung is edifying us. He is a true doctor. I was always slim but realizing during this video that the low fat craze was the trigger for my metabolism. I can get to even get to 1000 calories ( not much of a eater) but I also eat closer to natural foods most of my life. However I just kept gaing weight. Back to my intuitive eating, continue to drink lots of water, eat natural food when hungry and the weight is failing off slowly.

90% of people in the gym are simply trying to work off bad diets on a daily basis. They will have some success but will ultimately gain weight again. You can’t find three people without some gym success, gym failure story. Bad diets must be corrected and the gym should only be an amplifier to health and build. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen leave a gym and go straight to Starbucks afterwards. I used to be one of them.

I did lose weight counting calories. How I did it was also spending six days a week two hours a day in the gym. As soon as my lifestyle changed where I couldn’t spend that much time in the gym anymore I started putting weight back on. It didn’t matter that I was within my calorie range I still was putting weight back on. Once I started keto and intermittent fasting I lost the weight I put back on spending very little time working out and kept it off.

I went from obese to skinny in 60 days. I managed to drink 2 small bottles of Ensure in my hospital bed everyday while they were treating me for Peritonitis. Wasn't interested in eating anything. Not a recommended way to lose weight. Never had any hunger pains or feeling faint. I just lost my desire for food. After I recovered I felt like I was walking on air and my body didn't weigh anything. My old clothes looked great on me again. Like this doctor said, eating is a habit. I think that the problem with the fitness crowd is that most of them are genetically predisposed to being lean or being in shape, so they have no idea what it’s like for someone who followed their advice for decades and failed to lose weight and plateaued repeatedly even though they were counting calories and exercising six days a week, and who blew through those plateaus and got into the best shape of their life after starting keto and intermittent fasting while not counting calories at all and only walking for exercise. We may not have all the answers right now but for some physiological or biological reason, focusing on what you eat and the hormonal effects of what you eat works for some people where the fitness industry approach does not. I just feel so much better eating this way, and it’s so much easier to extend the amount of time between meals eating this way, because you aren’t eating foods that spike your insulin and blood sugar and you are eating foods that induce satiety. It really works for me.

I think that's precisely the case. People with superior genetics love to look down on fat people. "CICO works for everyone! If it didn't work for you, it's because you're a lying lazy fat pig". Of course the "experts" and naturally lean people will never say that, but that's what they think. I've tried everything: calorie counting, low carb, carnivore, OMAD, 2MAD. Nothing worked in terms of fat loss. The only way I can burn fat effectively is by fasting. And I'm okay with that. I can reap tons of benefits on top of rapid fat burn.

Well... what I understand from the fitness people is that some of them don't understand the importance of hormones...
From what I learned by reading Dr Fung's book, is that the body works as a lamp: it may be ON, OFF, or DEEMED.
ON: the light is in the room (as insulin in the body "fed state")
OFF: there's no light and in order to see, we need to light a candle, a flashlight or something else... (as when our body is searching for another fuel source "stored fat")
DEEMED: we can still see (like our body is still using the incoming energy instead of the stored one, even if it's not the "full light", no one would think of a flashlight if they can see).
I find it completely logical and seems to make great sense!
I remember at primary school being tought about the "empty calories"... but it is so far in my mind... the teacher use to show us a poster with a bag of chips, cookies, soda. Those were set appart from the "good calories food" which was: meat, veggies, fruits, bread, nuts... This was just before the new Canada's food guide brings us the pyramid in the early '80s...
Again, thank you for all the teaching you bring back... it is such interesting!

Dr.Jason is right and I guess he means too that only in a healthy person it does not matter as much how the calories are putting together if you have a healthy rhythm of eating and using your calory intakes. BUT the mainstream people, who suffers already from insulin resistance, pre diabetic etc (and that are 95 percent of all people in USA who suffers from insulin resisance, unknowingly BECAUSE of the standard amerian diet through the last 30 to 40 years!!) could not come far with only the calory approach!! They have to repair and heal from their insulin resistance and the only way to do that: make an hormonal change, let the insulin come down, give the body time to use the food you have taken in before!! And only with eating whole, unprocessed foods most of the time you will come to the point that the body needs no food in between your main meals!! So you come over short time to a real healthy food intake!! He is absolutely right that the hormonal change caused by processed food had done damage, but ut is reversal - if you are doing the right things and change eating-habits!

Even God fasted when he was here as a man (Jesus). Saying that if you’re right with God, you wouldn’t be overweight is like saying if you’re right with God any of the other problems we deal with would no longer be an issue. The Bible tells us it’s our flesh that’s sinful so no, being right with God doesn’t make your flesh/body any better. I’ve also had people tell me fasting is dangerous but the health need it’s I’ve achieved say otherwise. I even got rid of uterine fibroid tumors and they were gone almost instantly.

Hey, calorie counting did work for me perfectly but it is funny because it actually worked because of the reasons you are saying. The only way I could keep up and not feel hungry with the limited amount of calories is when I had natural foods in my diet. I still eat dessert every day, but only at the end of the day when I have calories left in my budget. If I eat something processed/sugary on a different time of the day I will feel super hungry which then results in eating over the recommended calorie intake limit.

The 70’s was the age of convenience foods, too, like “TV dinners”, Kraft macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper. All under the guise of “helping” the working mothers of the day.

Great interview with Dr. Fung. i loved how he combined pure science with a reality-based approach. I don't like drinking water. I only do it when I'm travelling at high-altitude-low humidity places.

Only eat it if it was made on a farm and if it looks like it did the day it was harvested. END OF STORY
I was so broken before I found that out. I needed a high protein high saturated diet and one meal a day jump start this. Love it

Many years ago Fred Stare of Harvard University stated it is the calories saying sugar doesn't matter it's the calories and our focus has been misguided ever since. I know because it was recorded on a video and I saw it!

When I was a fat kid in the 70s it was all about calorie counting. I saw a weight loss doctor who only ate 500 calories a day. That was all replaced when the low fat culture began.
Now my endocrinologist recommends calorie counting because it worked for him. I think the return to calorie counting is in large part because of the failure of the low fat ideology. The medical establishment doesn't want to admit they were wrong and they are slow to change anyway. I think they grabbed back on to the calorie counting model because they lost the low fat method and needed something to recommend so they went back to what they knew before.

I love Dr Fung, but I do count my calories. I lost over 75lbs on keto/low carb + intermittent fasting (omad) - I use my Fitness Pal to track my calories and compare it against my FitBit daily steps/calories spent - it keeps me grounded.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

How long did it take you to loose 75 lbs? Kudos to you

Same here. I lost almost 80 lbs in the last 2-1/2 years. I count calories. I eat twice per day in a 6 hour window, and lately I’ve been prioritizing protein. I did plateau, as Dr. Fung warns about. I was gaining and losing the same 5 or so lbs for about a year. I have finally gotten it moving again after a 72 hour water fast. I plan to repeat that twice per month to lose the last 20 lbs.

I do enjoy Jeff Cavalier from the fitness though. I really do believe in him as a very great source of knowledge. He definitely promotes whole foods, not counting calories, and believes in letting your body become satiated. He's one of the good guys imo. I am having great sucess with IF. Thank you!

I don't understand why he followed Dr. Fung's interview with an interview of Liz Josefsberg. Dr. Fung is all about fasting and whole foods, but Josefsberg is all about calories in/calories out and not skipping meals. I started this video because I really appreciate Dr. Fung's fasting protocol and was confused by putting these two interviews together. 😕
