I'm digging right into these videos. Your knowledge of the boards & functions of each part are proving beneficial in the maintenance of my own boards. Thankyou for filming all these.

@@YourMKArcadeSource so same board, out of the blue went quiet again. Not sure. Same issue here. Perhaps my u37 is going bad. I'm going to need to source one.
replaced the chip but didn't work for me. The chip that caused the issues with my sound pcb was u16 which is a AD1851N. replaced that one and everything came back to live. I had very similar distortion with the bad chip.
Hi, the capacitors at C58, C59 and C60 which capacitors did you use there? I think the ones I have removed are 0.1UF 100V 1.50MKT CAPACITORS. You mentioned Tantalum capacitors?
Hey. I can bad rom checks. And it makes sounds, but they are not the correct sounds?? Once again... maybe the crystal? Example is: I'll here a bicycle kick when I do an uppercut. Weird stuff, nothjngs the right sound... but makes a wrong sound. Any idea?
Ok mike check this out ..i replaced caps the gal chip the clock Krystal the black amplifier part.and the u ic chip and nothing no led light but now i hear some static out of the speaker when its on now??? I lve watched all ur vids on this board and my soundboard looks to be beyond repair i also replaced the sound u2 chip have anymore that could be wrong with my board?
Do you know what kind of chip that is needed for the replacement. We have one doing the same thing and I do not have the board in front of me at the moment.
Hi, I have a similar issue with my sound board. The test sound started to disappear along with the in-game sound and it's been on an off lately. Would you be able to have a look at it if I shipped it to you and ofcourse compensated you for your efforts? I'm from Hungary and unfortunately people with knowledge of these boards is in short supply here.
YourMKArcadeSource I love it repairing tutorials I have learned alot from u and other techs by watching ur videos I know all when it comes to wiring controlls Jamma boards and setting up power supply how ever can u make a step by step tutorial explaining how to connect different crt arcade monitors to when it comes wiring it up to isolation transformer and how identify what each wire is for and how to connect it to chassis thank u now I know each monitor chassis are different how ever they would be such a great help thank u
we have a Mortal Combat II and do not have sound...We bought it off of a guy who was selling it, it worked fine and had sound, but after we transported it home the only sound is the Mortal Kombat when you first turn it on, and it just continues to make a humming sound...Can you help??
Dear @YourMKArcadeSource I have a similar issue, the light on my sound board lit on but I can´t hear any tones and can´t even hear noise or something if I put the volume up.. the problem started intermittently, sometimes the audio was very low and garbled, suddenly normal and so on until today that absolutely nothing is heard what you do think is the part to be replaced here? Please help me
UPDATE: today I turned it on again and at first I did not hear the tone or the sound of the game, about 20 seconds passed and I began to hear the sound very low and garbled, and suddenly it normalized .. right now it has 20 minutes working normal until I turned the volume up almost to maximum, this caused the game to reset.. what could be the problem here?
Hello, I have a question about the MK1 sound board. I bought an MK1 to fix up and it starts fine, Test tone, game music, and then horrible noises with the music and some sound effects in the background drowned out by the noise. It almost sounds like a loop of people cheering but it could just be my mind trying to make sense of LOUD gibberish. My theory is some of the sound ROMs are bad (I need to get a rom burner so I can't test them against mame yet) but I thought maybe you had run into this issue before and could confirm my theory or know what the issue is because you had come across it before. I appreciate any help and your time. :) Addendum: So I ran downstairs to check it out one last time before posting this (I decided to look around for info on the game/boards etc and found your great stuff), and apparently I have one of the prototype boards (the telltale yellow wire rocker switches) so I have a second question, can you run all the other Y board roms on a prototype board?
1. That very well could be bad roms, but also could be a bad ribbon cable. Unfortunately, the test tone only indicates that the hardware is working, not if the roms are bad. MK2-MK4 will give you multiple tones as codes to tell you which rom is bad. Mk2 does not do that, so it's hard to tell which one of the three roms is bad. 2. Yes. The Proto board will support every Y-Unit revision.
I just bought a mortal kombat 2 cabinet and the test tones work but not the game sounds. It turned on the previous owner had the ribbon cable backwards on the soundboard. In case this helps anyone in the future.
@@YourMKArcadeSource gotcha im gonna see if i can replace it i mean i know how to replace the caps and sodder ill check them with a multimeter see if there bad.
i appreciate the work yoy do for these arcades. my arcade will go to the start up screen but gets stuck will just keep saying "initializing game" like if it is loading but the game does not start. this is for a nfl blitz. what can be the problem? all info is appreciated
Im not getting any sound at all. Except for the hum. I have the board installed in an mk1 cab, waiting for my switcher and consensor. But I doubt thats the problem.
Hey mate, I looked around for a way to contact you but I couldn't find an email address anywhere in your info. I think I can speak for many MK fans to say thank you for everything you do. I also would love to find out about two MK related things. 1. The story behind how the EJB menus were discovered? Who, how, when, why. If you have any information I think it would make a fantastic video and 2. What can you tell us about UMK3 Wavenet code. What do you know about it, are there any known dumps in the wild? Thanks again, Adam. (Sydney, Australia)

You know this is same problem i have with my jr pacman cocktail table i just got. And this only way i can subscribe it the same sounds comething the speaker. Kinda like throbbing sound and like you can kinda hear the sounds but there like not really comeing out the speaker sounds right like i can turn it up volume but sounds like this mk2 arcade that you just fixed. where do you get the cap kit and the u37 chip?
raptor2569 You have to piece them all together individually. You can get all the caps and chip, etc from Mouser.
Nice, can you also do the same for Mortal Kombat 1? whre should I start? crystal oscilator?, AMp, caps?
thank you I have mk arcade's so I enjoy your work your the man thanks again for the video

Most likely a bad GAL. The chip right above the main controller in the brown socket. That’s the chip responsible for the LED.
