- Julia Child visits Fisherman’s Wharf to secure the fresh catch for her main course of “Santa Barbara Bouillabaisse.” The dessert, “La Tulipe Marie Louise,” is created by guest chef Sally Darr of New York City’s La Tulipe Restaurant. Chateau St. Jean’s Richard Arrowood presents three vintages.

I've been longing for these "Dinner at Julia's" shows for decades. They are what got me interested in cooking as a kid. I especially miss "The Barbecue Show" episode -- I surely hope that will be posted here!!!
I just love her. Brings me back to my childhood. My friend and I cooked recipes out of her cookbook. It was so much fun.

I love the festive and yet casual atmosphere of this series. I am always wondering, though, what happened to the other dinner party guests. The table seated only ten, including Julia, and there are always more guests at the party during hors d’œuvres. I hope they got a proper dinner as well. 😉
They were probably hired actors. Keep in mind this is a TV production not an actual dinner party at her house.

@@Great2C A very good question! I guess those extra 'guests' were just 'set dressing', to start the show with a lively, party atmosphere.
Maybe I missed it, but I see no year in the title or description of this video - always a bugbear of mine! Can anyone tell me when this series was first transmitted? Ah, just saw 1983 at the very end, mystery solved!
Fish stew & red sauce - she does it also in "The Way to Cook", same era i think.
Yes the red sauce is called "rouille" or "rust" in English

That dessert is fascinating-an incredibly labor-intensive way to produce an incredibly boring flavor combination. With commercial chocolate syrup, no less! But it was a thing in that era, vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce-my dad loved it. What a mystery.

I've never seen vanilla beans snap like that when cut. Must have been as dry as the Sahara.
Actually the Sahara is one of the wettest places on earth. The solid layer of basalt doesn't allow water to move or sink. It is only because of the hundreds of feet of sand on the surface that nothing can grow. Nothing I just said is true but it sounds like one of those things that would be 😂
Hehe, if she ever introduces one of the vitners *without* saying something along the lines of ‘one of California’s most respected…’ you know there’s some beef there.

Schlong Johnsen of the Cockwood Winery makes a much better wine but Julia never had him on the show. The wine pairs well with coc au vin as well as more common dishes as hot dogs.
