The traditional way to teach children how to read Loshon Kodesh - The Massorah. The Chazon I sh and Rav Ddessler also wrote against departing from the Massorah for teaching regular children how to read Hebrew, and, more recently at a meeting held by the rabbonim of the Aida Hacharadis, the injunction against alternative methods was repeated.
