The toddler is dressed as a japanese ogre called a oni. There is lots of different lore about Oni. They are generally believed to be cannibals. They are also associated with natural disasters and plagues.
Edit* And any Japanese person would immediately recognize the baby as a oni. People who were claiming they heard a 'old woman' were referring to a onibaba. A old lady demon also common in japanese folklore.

It also may have been released around the time of Setsubun, or the spring festival holiday in Japan. It’s meant to celebrate when spring is coming and traditionally they throw dry soy beans at adults dressed up as Oni. So it’s kind of the opposite as well, where the baby is dressed up as an Oni instead of an adult. Traditionally 3:37 kids run around chasing the adult dressed as an Oni trying to come in and throw the soybeans as they shout, “Oni go outside and fortune stay inside.” And then you eat treats. It’s pretty fun, but those soybeans can hurt when the kids hit you sometimes.

I am Hmong and feel so honored to hear Bailey speak of us!!! 😂 I was excited to hear what Bailey will present when I saw the title already.
But yes, sleep paralysis is real in the Hmong Community. It's a spiritual battle not to be taken lightly. With the amount of stories I have heard, I will never wish it upon my worst enemy. Dab tsuam literally means the ghost squishing/sitting on you, which explains the heavy chest pain/feeling and all the pictures depicting it. 55:10

Only thing I can think of to make any sense of it is that he maybe is sleep walking and the "shadow person/people" seem to move with him. He said it lurks in one corner of the bedroom ceiling from time to time..and I, too have had to shake him awake when he is closed mouthed and I can hear muffled screams of either my name or "help me"...I am really starting to think that he is having contact with the undead while he is sleeping.. and that really freaks me out.. him and I have had contact with his dead grandparents after they passed, too. Idk if I should lean into it or ignore it completely 😬

It’s terrifying! Everyone who doesn’t experience it thinks you’re insane, but being trapped with something dark is horrifying. I can’t sleep on my back anymore because it almost always happens. I’ve seen a dark figure in my ceiling and at the end of my bed/walking around it, felt handprints pushing into my bed around me, a tall dark figure in a trench coat and top hat, and the little demon chest monkey (that’s what I call it lol) that hurts my chest. I’ve also lucid dreamed before that I was on my way to harm my old roommates but I had to stop myself in the dream. At my old house I would wake up every morning at 3:23. We finally moved and it has gotten better, but I still refuse to sleep on my back and the times I roll over in my sleep it almost always happens.

YES! Displacement and sleep paralysis. I'm so glad you're doing this topic! Between 1991-2013, I moved 98x and withing 2 weeks of each move, I'd have these terrifying sleep paralysis episodes. I was told lots of things: my brain doesn’t process sleep cycles correctly--doesn't shut off, that while my brain is dreaming and body is asleep, my senses are awake--I can hear whats going on in reality around me and my eyes are open, just can't move. I was told result of childhood concussion, adult concussion/domestic abuse. Amazingly, these episodes have drastically reduced since I got sober 7.5 years ago.

This is one of my major fears to have to go through someday. I also experienced domestic abuse and I’m almost positive had a concussion from it at least once. Got hit so hard the color in my vision like, went off. Not like black and white but was in different shades. Then I was really sleepy that day. Glad that chapter is over but I do get regular nightmares. I don’t want the nightmares on steroids that sleep paralysis exhibit. Every time she will see something different, sometimes she won't have a hallucination but just experience the paralysis. She told me once she had a woman sitting on her chest, choking her accompanied with a pressure on her chest and difficulty breathing. She says she taught herself to just keep her eyes closed and tries to stay calm nowadays and it got better. When she was at her worst, she experienced it everynight, sometimes even twice a night and it used to keep her awake for days on end just to not have to go through it again.

      Magnesium kills sleep demons!
I have suffered from sleep paralysis my whole life. After I had been very sick, I was getting it at least 3 times a week and I was going insane and thought the house was haunted, not helped by the bathroom clock that remotely kept the time and I didn't have to set it when the clocks changed but at night the hands would spin round and round with super fast ticking. Anyway, someone suggested magnesium supplements and it almost fully went away

Magnesium is known to help with restless leg syndrome which is also a night occurrence, so I think it links in to that. If it is a frequent thing for you it's really worth taking it consistently although I still get it occasionally, it's 3 times a year as opposed to 3 times a week lol

    Dang this episode ❤
I grew up with Llorona, pretty close to the version you told😂 Scared the poo out of my brother and I when we were younger. My dad would always tell us the story when we were passing through a tiny mountain town in the middle of the night. He'd point to an abandoned house as we crossed the weakened bridge and worried about the whiney wind, howling beneath us 😮
I was experiencing sleep paralysis a few years ago but it would happen AS I was falling asleep... and it was TERRIFYING.
When I visited Nola with my boyfriend, I had an episode in our hotel room. I knew the history of the hotel and about the unfortunate children who had passed in a fire when it had previously been a school.
As I lay there motionless only a few moments after hitting the pillow and seemingly falling asleep, my breathing slowed way down to a whisper. My mind was wide awake and my eyes and mouth were "sewn" shut. I Saw a dark grayish figure the size of a child standing in our open doorway, kind of leaning in. As I tried to scream my boyfriend's name and shake myself awake after what felt like 20 minutes but perhaps was just one or two, I finally gasped awake and was able to explain to my boyfriend why I had been slightly twitching in bed. He had no clue i was stuck in a prison right next to him.
I had my last straw with it and decided to Google if there were any nutritional deficiencies linked to this experience and turns out, CoQ10 was my answer and as soon as I took the supplements, I was completely free from my traumatic sleeps. ❤❤
I'm sorry for anyone experiencing this. Baily said it, you live through your own horror scene. It's wild how your brain tries to make sense of it. I once thought it was my boyfriend just laying on top of me casually and I was like get off me dude, i cant breathe😂

Which does add to the spookiness of the commercial. I'd have assumed it was a commercial made specifically for spooky season, but the ad aired in the 1980's and it was March. Japan has Halloween on Oct. 31st too, they just don't do trick or treating.

Sleep paralysis takes advantage of the spiritually-vulnerable multiple times or anyone who is gifted with spirit guides where they eventually need to choose whether or not they want to pursue a shamanic journey. My only case of this was when I was super young and was sick at the time. It manifested in large piles of blankets being thrown onto me. It was terrifying.
