I’m dealing with exactly the same pathology as Frank. I went to the gym, and after having curled 26kg (57 lbs) in each arm for 10 reps the week before, I couldn’t curl 6kg with my left arm. Same strength loss in the shoulder and chest. I also thought MS, but after seeing 4 neurologists, an orthopaedic surgeon and a spinal surgeon, and after 2 neck MRIs, a nerve conduction study and electromyography, they concluded it was a C4/C5 nerve impingement due to disc degeneration caused by years of grappling. Its taken me 9-months to get back to 85% strength, and was told I may never make a full recovery. Its no joke.

Similar thing happened to me last year. Literally overnight, the strength in my left arm significantly decreased. MRI showed it was a C5-C6 nerve issue in my neck. My strength came back after some PT, but I still have numbness (which is getting worse now). I was told that surgery is inevitable.

5 years later it looks like crap. Sux. I’ll be 67 next week.

Neck injuries are a BIT*H to deal with. For a guy of Frank’s size, that’s a shocking level of atrophy. Glad he’s getting it dealt with and hopefully he’s on the mend.

Ulnar Nerve Entrapment is a thing, too. That cut me off from lifting a little heavier, it lasted for about 2 months and it’s still a touch annoying.

Old age gets us all, eventually. Over 50, and you have to finally start to listen to your body. Healing takes forever and it's never complete. Best thing to do, is to stop doing heavy weight training. That's something I wouldn't do if I was 20. Body weight + bands. That's the way to go.

Unless Frank’s been also feeding his kid tainted kangaroo meat, I’m gonna have to doubt his son benching 315 before starting high school. I suppose it’s not impossible, but his son would basically be a power lifting prodigy

Oh sht I had this. Mine is fully healed though. Had the same issue, one arm couldn't grow and other arm was big. Ended up being a massive nerve that leads into the pinky area. The meaty part of your hand that you would use to hammer fist somebody. There's a massive amount of neural connection that's meant to go to that area and it leads all the way into your neck. I spent about 4 years of light weight rehab and yoga type resistance stretching every day but it's better than I could have ever hoped now. Working out feels amazing and I don't get sleepy during every rep anymore.

same thing happened to me but, with the right pec and tricep. Woke up one day and could barely lift my arm to brush teeth. I had big pecs. That pec was like I never lifted a weight in my life. Gradually came back to 90%. Must have smoked a nerve. Crazy shit...
