Synopsis:
The film revolves around the emotional journey of two teachers Vidya (Shabana Azmi) and Jyoti (Juhi Chawla) who are serving at a Mumbai-based high school. Their passion and love for teaching bonds them with their students. Their gratification is good grades and the moral values they strive to impart to students. However, in an evil turn of events, a wicked lady, Kamini Gupta (Divya Dutta), is appointed as the principal, thus changing the fate of the administration.
Vidya is one of the senior staff members at this fair to middling educational institution, which has thus far functioned smoothly under the able hands of Principal Indu Shastry (Zarina Wahab). Everything changes with the appointment of the new principal. The teachers face unpleasant surprises when the popular and considerate Indu is replaced by the ambitious and cut-throat Kamini, who aspires to upscale this middle-class school. Teachers' chairs are removed from the classrooms, the tea is no longer free and subjects are juggled so that, for example, the overweight Hindi teacher is now assigned physical training spoiling the whole dynamics of the school.
All of this is too much for the good-hearted Vidya, who suffers a heart attack after a sudden and unfair dismissal. In solidarity, her friend and colleague Jyoti decides to take on Kamini and the misdirected board of trustees, led by Anmol (Arya Babbar). This entails using a TV channel as a platform for reminding viewers that teachers need support, recognition and more pay.
The drama ends with a recovered Vidya and Jyoti taking on a Who Wants to Be A Millionaire-style quiz to win 5 crore rupees. The trade-off is that if they lose, they will have to accept their termination and leave their profession respectively. Vidya and Jyoti use their talents and win the quiz battle. Unwillingly, the trustee Anmol signs the bank cheque of 5 crore rupees. The principal Kamini apologizes to Vidya and Jyoti publicly on the TV show. At the end, Vidya reveals that she will be handing over the money to former principal Indu to build a school where no teacher will be discriminated against and students will have a good education for less cost.

Being a student for 10 years who has studied at 6 different schools, I've met both bad and good teachers but the number of good teachers are astonishingly high. So True. Everywhere there is politics and I have been part of the same, being an Asst Prof or a PGT for 14 years. But we have to keep moving as I have been doing and will continue my life moving ahead leaving the past behind. Hats off to the director for such a wonderful movie showing the truth. I still remember the teachers who taught me from school till today's education. I am still in contact with all of them. I salute and love my and all the teachers in this world. It is one of the most respected professions. I still miss my profession and my PG, UG, and school-going students in my 14 years of teaching career. Among those are now parents, some researchers, and renowned scientists in various fields. I feel that as my reward "Guru Dakshina" from their side and am glad to see them grow to heights. I am studying in grade 6. I was used to be a loser in my class (3rd top loser) in grade 5th. Everyone complains the teacher that I'm disturbing them but I never did. The top no.1 irritator is Virat. And today he has been disturbing me saying "shut up" and he's the discipline captain here. I can tell I somehow passed my 5th grade but in 6th I'm trying to improve, trying not to overreact, trying not to make anyone become my enemy. I just need a friend I just need someone who could support me.
I understand that students also have a hard life, but even teachers are students. One time I came to my class, i saw all science teacher seated and one senior science teacher was teaching them. Even Hindi, sst, and other subjects teachers to "teach" their students. I am , we are teachers children too.
My previous term test 1 this year I got average of 81% but very bad rank. I got 32 rank out of all the 41 students. I started crying and my mom scolded me and made me understand. The worst problem I have is *period*.
Rn my term test 2 started, today was the second exam sst. The question paper was easy *because my mother teached me both my two history chapters nicely with simple entertainment or real life methods. After realising I am gonna get 30/30 in sst, i cried and realised *no other teacher is better in teaching rather than my mom because she's a doctor*.
My father just doesn't care, i heard in the call that "apni beti ko tum padhao, tum hi to usko pal kar rakhi oh na." Which means "teach your own daughter, you only cradled your own child." He doesn't care about me thinking like I am an adopted child to him.
Pls wish me very very good luck my mother told me to watch this movie to understand studying.

I admire the director, for bringing the teaching profession back to its glory. I am proud of being a teacher. I am a retired professor of Philosophy from Mysore university. I am proud that i come from that dept in Mysore where prof. S. Radhakrishnan started his teaching career as a professor of Philosophy. He was our second professor. I am also proud of having had a teacher as my life partner, who was professor of history in Maharani's arts college.

Shabana, zarina, and juhi at their natural best. Other teachers of the staff are equally natural.Only thing is the principal's arrogance is a liitle bit over shown. At the end she should have been shown to have corrected her stubbornness, audacity and arrogance. But this does not belittle the excellence of the movie. Kudos to the team.

How sweet, wish I had teachers like this who really taught and loved children. Several times my teachers slapped me for no reason in school and called me stupid to humiliate, several times I got depressed. Whatever it may be, I am glad to move forward in life despite everything that happened, meet new mentors who teach real-world skills and are not dominant but humble. :)

Such a wonderful movie. Only teachers can feel it. Specially the interview session of Juhi Chawla. She is absolutely right on everything she said about students that they forget their teachers when they pass out from school and the education system that is meant to exploit teachers and children as well and the last dialouge delivered by Shabana Azmi that how both parents and teachers suffer to get knowledge. Our society really needs experienced and trained teachers not the teachers with mere certificates.
My salutations to all teachers who go far and beyond their call of duty. They are the true soldiers of the world because they are the guardians of the future.

This is the present scenario in all private schools and this movie has depicted it so well, being a teacher is not an easy task and the problems teachers are facing these days is something to be highlighted. We get pressure from not just the management but the parents as well. Earlier teachers were held with utmost respect and importance but now we are just workers.

Though I am an engineer, i chose to be a science teacher for 5 years in a rural school. Love this teaching profession. Waw, What a lovely and noble profession ! Film is too good to be commented about. Brought tears because I remembered those awesome days with my students. Love this movie. It is very very realistic. In private schools they terminate the teachers without any mercy for simple reasons. Movie is very nice 👏👏
