  • 2 acres rainfed permaculture and agroforestry in Samburu, Kenya.
    Semi-arid savannah type of climate and landscape.
    Grazing field, crop shamba and foodforest.
    - Grazing 1,5acres:
    7 years of managed grazing improving soil, gras and acacia trees.
    - Crop shamba 0,5acres:
    Maize and beans in soil improved by managed grazing.
    - Foodforest 500m2:
    Mullberry, bananas, papaya, avocado, physalis, passion, pilipili, kale, mangold and much more growing well with support trees, and improved soil by mulching, goat manue, cactus manue and directed floodwater from the road.
    Area rainfall:
    Year average 600mm, (span of 300-1000mm, year to year).
    Temperature:
    Year average16*C, (span of 12-30*C, night to day).
    timespan:
    1st year (2017) the start, dry year. 5year cykle of drought.

    Great stuff, I also think aloe Vera does really well in your region, try planting it in the understory of your food forest, it is free medicine .oh and also maybe try adding a succulent ground cover mixed with your grasses, especially under tye fruit trees since this succulent ground cover doesn't die back like the grass during the dry season providing some form of 'living mulch'.

      Thanks for your recomendations. Aloeavera is wild arround and exist in plenty if I need medicine. Here it has been used for malaria and infectios wounds etc.

    Great job. I remember when there was barely nothing in that compound. How I wish my trees could grow faster like yours! I have them in an arid area.

      @@MaxLemayian They are in Narok south. I have watched yours grow. They are doing well. My croton, oloirien and osokonoi are doing well. The fruit trees like guava and tomato tree are fairing badly.
