I'm reading the story of the Esperanza Fire right now. Thank you SO much for posting this video, it makes the author's descriptions come alive.
May the 5 brave souls who died here Rest In Peace, and may their families and fellow firefighters be comforted. They will not be forgotten.

Woodlandmoose is correct! I along with my strike team just recieved a personal tour of the site from then Capt, Chris Fogle who was best friend to E57 Capt Mark Loutzenhiser and the one to discover him still alive but badly injured. Amazing and priceless experience being there and hearing the story from someone who was there first hand. Thanks for the post however!

I listen to this tragedy play out on my scanner as it happened it was something I'll never forget
My wife at the time worked for an emergency services company that provides showers and laundry at the CP on big fires and was called to this fire the day after this happened

Pablo was the first site, Mark was the second. I hung the Steelers medal on the cross.

I was on 242 that morning when the fire began to fly over us as we came down the mtn. The flying embers began to hit the car. I think the road was closed behind us as we all were trying to flee. The firefighters died as we lived. I still have that car I drove that night. It has two small burn marks I refused to buff out or repair. They have faded, but are still there. I would evacuate from the Pioneer Town/Yucca Valley fire within a year. I am a Midwesterner and had never lived through a western fire. I still get emotional when I think of the firemen who died. We would have died also if they all had not worked quickly. The police guiding us through the smoke. When the winds shifted, I did not think we would come off the mountain. Sorry this is so jumbled. I still get emotional about this fire. There was no option to turn back. Thank you to the well organised and brave fire and police. Thank you. SO brave putting your live up for us. Thank you.
