The pronunciation is designed to be understandable and recognizable to an English speaking audience who have not necessarily been to Japan nor speak any Japanese. It's clearly a travel program for tourists.
@MaxichaChan I'm assuming 90's there are alot of vhs and plasma tvs. You dont really see them in the 2000's anymore. Especially since Japan is 10 years advance than the rest of us.
i never really understood why they dont talk about anime in these types of videos... for amcerica its anime that is well know... at least thats what i think...
in the first pafrt there was a cosplay of kyo from dir en grey.but now that i think about it he looked like that in 2001. so 2001 or later, but not before.
wow, it's really hard to watch when they talk about tech.......all of that stuff is so outdated it's absolutely ridiculous right now. good lord. except for the toilet, that does seem pretty awesome, wonder how those have advanced since 1995 when this documentary was clearly made
But it is still amazing how high tech things have gotten since this documentary was made! From carrying huge bricks to flip phones and now having slim tall smartphone that can be a PC in your hand!
I spent many happy years in Tokyo, my happiest years, actually [THE WOMEN!!!], so I always enjoy being able to catch up on the latest. The only thing that bothers me about this video is that no one bothered to tel the narrator how to pronounce things. He got a few words right, Sony, for instance, but he's inexcusably wrong on most of them.
This is so nostalgic. Utada Hikaru was on a tv screen, she was so young and at the peak of her career!
I was lucky to see her live in my city in 2009.
This documentary needs to be remade ever year to keep up with technology, those phones are OLD SKOOL!
One of the best documentaries I've seen on Japan.
I remember watching this for the first time and really enjoying the show...whoever created this show did an excellent job putting it together
I agree. It's fantastic.
I agree. It's fantastic.

watching this in 2014. its crazy how fast technology progresses. all the latest tech in this video series looks so outdated..
This video was made in 2002.
Brian Miller Most of it was just junk. The high tech area is San Francisco. Even Microsoft is way ahead of Japanese tech now.

Yup!
Your channel is pretty awesome...gotta find time to watch all your videos.
Thanks!
Thank You!!!
Totally! I wish everybody speak english like her in Japan.
Japan seems really nice. It's not my cup of tea with the crowds, the cost of living and the working lifestyles, but I would love to visit.
Aki ha ba ra ! Why didn't anyone brief him on pronunciation ?
The description in part 1 of the documentary says it was made in 1992, which honestly blew my mind.

The pronunciation is designed to be understandable and recognizable to an English speaking audience who have not necessarily been to Japan nor speak any Japanese. It's clearly a travel program for tourists.

jdzspace33 the toilets still are the same, nothing really changed if you take the average toilet as an example
But it is still amazing how high tech things have gotten since this documentary was made! From carrying huge bricks to flip phones and now having slim tall smartphone that can be a PC in your hand!
