- Dan Short, owner of FantomWorks, responds to the video from @TunaNoCrustOfficial about why FantomWorks (the show) ended in 2019. The good news is FantomWorks (the show) IS COMING BACK and going Off-Grid, right here on FantomWorks RUclips Channel (Click subscribe and click the bell for ALL notifications) or watch commercial free on fantomworks.cm...
As a mechanic and custom car builder your show was the most realistic. I admire the fact that you put the car first and pull no sugar-coated punches. Looking forward to seeing more from you and your crew. Thanks Dan!
You do realize much of the added drama was scripted, right ? It's a TV show.
It wasn't. His show was literally like he said the daily shop with cameras pointed at them
LMAO..OK
He is totally believable to me, his awesome miltary background is an integrity badge that should dispel all the haters BS.
Most realistic? Are you kidding? I respect the quality of work coming out of this shop, but the show itself was made for drama nonsense. Drove me nuts to the point I couldn't watch the show.
Much respect Dan! Do it your way!
Dan, as a person that was born into the Hot Rod industry. I enjoyed the show. I do miss it. My Grandfather Ed Axle Stewart was one of the founding fathers of hot rods back in the day. My Dad was one of the best, and my brother is still working with the old cars. Some day I would like to come to your shop and have a look around.
As friends always do me and my buddies talk about what we would do if we won the lottery and where we would have our dream car built. I have always answered Fantomworks. You guys are amazing and do work that is 100% unparalleled. Keep up the good work and I’m damn glad to see y’all have went back to your roots and doing what you love.
I’m from Australia and we here say it as it is. No beating around the bush. And Dan, your that type of bloke. Strait up no nonsense kind of guy. Hats off to you my friend. I enjoyed watching your reaction to that video. Keeping it real. It would be great to see you back on the screen again. Saying it as it is👌
Was great watching your show over the years. Thanks for letting us in on the operation. Glad your moving on and doing it the way you want it done! All the best for your success.... Motor on! PS Thank you for your service.
Dan, thank you sir for your service to our great country, I am saddened to hear about the passing of your dad, I'm sure he was a great American because he surely raised a honorable son,I've watched many episodes and had no idea of the pressure the production company had put on you along with a frivolous law suit, may god bless you and your family and talented crew in their future endeavors.
Only a few shows I'd watch because of the detail work and actual professionalism. Fantom Works, Restoration Garage and Wheeler Dealers that was the show that kind of started it all. Real journey men that know their craft in perfection. Bravo to you all and I'll miss the show. Wish I could have sent you my 69 Mach 1 S code 390 to restore. Candy red with blackout hood,
Dan, I was sad when the show ended. I wrote the network and they told me you ended the show wanting to continue working without all the cameras. I look forward to seeing the new production!
Hey Dan. I watched a lot of the FantomWorks shows and enjoyed every one of them. I kind of wondered what happened to the show and sad it disappeared. After watching this video, I am glad that you will be bringing us more amazing automotive content. I wish you all the best in the future.
I just saw this.
You are exactly right. It is never enough to offer folks a good job with fair pay.
I had 15 employees for over 10 years.
I gave my people an unpromised $5000.00 Christmas bonus each year and paid their family health insurance out of my pocket (984.00 per family per month). When 9/11 happened, my business crashed to less than $150,000 in revenue. I kept everyone on payroll and paid their family's health insurance for over a year until I had to shut the shop down and get a job. I took that money out of my savings to make that happen. The average salary was $155,000.00 per year.
That year, I gave them each a $500 bonus out of my savings. I had not taken a dime in salary the entire year.
One employee came in and asked me what the "F" is this? Where is my $5000.00 bonus? How is my family supposed to have Christmas on $500?
I let her go that day and closed the business a month later. It is NEVER enough, and we are fools to think that most of our employees appreciate the sacrifices we make to operate a small business.
That is a lesson that I will never forget.
I hope you are doing well.
I miss your show. Watched it every week.
I miss your show it was my favorite car restoration show I learned a lot from watching and it was the most realistic car show on TV. The only other one show that I can say that is as realistic is Roadkill. Thanks for doing that for us car guys .
Loved the Fantomworks show and best of luck in your new venture!
Total respect. Just keep building what you do. 👍🏼
Looking forward to watching your new content. Always enjoyed your show.
I really liked the show. Dan's no BS, the customer is not always right, way about him made the show feel genuine. Besides it really looked like they knee what they were doing.
Always a good show to watch but with the issues you just explained I would have packed my bags too.
It’s not fair that they still make money off Dans shows . He’s seems like a good guy !!
Dan, thanks for all of the shows. You are 'real,' and a joy to watch.
I find it hilarious that they ignore your interview at SEMA when a few of you were on stage and were asked about your plans for the next season. You explained that you had a lot of cars to do and that the demands on your time made it difficult for you to dedicate to your customers, your business and your family.
I admired your blunt honesty on stage in front of an audience, and not giving a flip about how others felt about your choices. I tip my hat to you, your family and tge crew at Fantom Works.
I can't tell you how much I miss Fantomworks. I've watched and rewatched every episode more times than I can count. I'll definitely be watching for the new show!!
Finally, a reality show thats actually REAL!!! No fake drama,no B>S. ,and no phony people doing stupid shiot for so called Entertainment Purposes!!! What a breath of fresh air!! Thanks Dan for your service to your Country, and Thanks for for bringing us this entertainment platform for strictly ours and your pleasure. I hope to get to see more of this type of content from you going forward!! All the best to you all at FantomWorks!!!
As a former marine and desert storm vet I have ultimate respect for anyone that served in the military
what about classic cars though?
he did do 24 yrs in the Army
Dan, 1st and foremost big thank you to you for your service to our great nation. I was a huge fan of the show from the start. Sorry about your father’s passing but more so that you were not able to spend his last hours with him. Glad to see you survived the show and are still out there restoring and building and doing what you love to do. Will be watching for the upcoming show. Best of luck in all of your endeavors!
Dan, you are an American hero! A master mechanic and an artist. Thank you for your service!!
I appreciate Dan’s comments and honesty. Being a small business owner myself, I know the stress of running a business and that employees sometimes have false notions as to what it cost to run a business, pay bills, and keep things running when the cash flow is slow or depleted. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.
My late wife who was a car nut and car encyclopaedia. She never missed an episode and sais that your show was in her opinion the most realistic (within some limits which are acceptable in all shows of the genre) car programme on tv ....
so through me from her, my sincere thanks for every episode..
Dan thanks for bringing the show back - you have a passion for cars, and it shows. I look forward to seeing new episodes and what FantomWorks is doing!!
Being that Dan is a Green Beret is the reason he is such a stand up guy. You will get no BS from him ever. Try to catch him on something and you wont be able to. Much respect sir!!!
FantomWorks was my favorite car show and I hated to see it end. I'm glad you're bringing it back without the encumbrances of a TV studio. I had no idea that you weren't getting paid per episode, which is just wrong.
I seen this today and subscribed. I gave up cable tv, just to creepy form me but no I can watch on RUclips 👍
Thanks Dan. You made the last few years enjoyable watching your restorations.
What a eye opener Dan!sorry about the bad parts of that! Didn't know you went through all the crap!what a great show!the best!
I loved your show Dan, it was really nice seeing someone who sticks to their guns about cars!
Wow I am glad that you’re still going to have somewhat of a show that’s on your time and what you want I can’t wait to watch you are an honest man and you helped a lot of people to get the cars that they wanted built and you helped a lot employees to become what they are today, and I am very proud of you for what you’ve done with your shop !
Your show really was the most real automotive show on TV.
RUclips is where you belong. That’s the best thing about it, RUclips gives all of the automotive content creators the freedom to make their show as real as possible, while being as entertaining as possible. Which is how it should be.
I don’t think I missed an episode, thanks for being willing to put it all out there for us viewers. Thank you for your service to the USA.
You had more employee turnover there than a McDonald's restaurant franchise.
Thanks Dan for the show’s in the beginnings and there’s one more thing Thanks for your Service to America 🇺🇸,,But staying with you over social media,,utube,,fake book has been great and even more knowing or should I say realizing you probably feel the same as I do about FJB and his Administration in control of America,,,,Good luck with the business and your new venture and God Bless you and your family 💪🏼
As a Vietnam Vet I thank you for your service and thank you for the great shows.
As a WWI vet I agree.
@@JohnSmith-jk8nv as a civil war vet I agree.
@@Jimmythefish577 as a revolutionary war vet...I agree
@@JohnSmith-jk8nv Your posts are disrespectful to our military. Stop it.
People have no idea the difficulties small business owners endure. Dan nailed it. Everyone has a hand out for donations, family members that need a loan. Not taking into account the fact that if your short 1 month. The Owner is the last guy to get paid. While assuming all the risk and bills involved. I loved this show for the realism. He didn't BS. I really do appreciate that about the series.
Thank you Dan. I enjoyed your show. I could tell your a moral and ethical person. It came through. Thank you again.
Loved the show, the quality of the work, the skill of the mechanics and dedication to do things right. Glad the business survived and going strong. I’m subscribed to follow you and your crew in your future projects!
Thanks for telling your story post FantomWorks. I have watched every episode, most of them twice. You may not be a paid actor but you are a car star, par excellence! Much success as you move forward with the new FantomWorks model.
This is great!! No one ever calls out this tuna douche. But to be fair, tuna does the research. The end of many videos is inconclusive.
Yeah. Character, hard to find these days. Will look forward to future content.
Thank you Dan for your service and the wonderful shows. I feel very sorry for what you’ve endured, as the love of money is the root of evil, especially done against you. I appreciate what you’ve done for the automotive world and us collectors.
Dan, you have been an inspiration to me that I should never attempt to do a restoration myself. ( I just retired at 72 y.o. and I would like to buy the red Corvette with removable split window roof. I would settle for just a copy of the roof. I had a '66 conv. Small block. That red one, cragar mags, just socks the air right out of my chest. U have loving passion and soul, ministerjack
As a owner of a restoration shop. I loved your show. Thanks for your honesty.
I miss this show tremendously. So many of these automotive shows have uninteresting characters and/or forced drama, but this one was wayyyyyyy better. I’d love to buy Dan’s crew a beer!
I really appreciate you taking your time to put truth to the rumors. I was a huge fan of the show and will continue to be a fan of Dan Short and Fantom Works. At the end of the day, Dan has worked hard to create a truly great business with the hard work of amazing craftsmen. Thanks, Sir.
Dan.... I understand now why the show ended but I thank you and yr crew for a great series of shows! You guys and women really rock!! Thanks for a great series! And long live muscle cars!!
What happened to Bobby? Is he still employed at Fantom Works?
Dan,
Thank you for giving it another try as I have seen most of your show several times and it will be AWESOME to see new ones! Good luck with this next chapter in your life! Also Thank you for your service to our Country!
As I have said in the past really like the show and if I had the cash I would bring a car to you and have your team build it. The notable team members for me would be you ,Bobby the Mopar guy and is her name Audrey sorry if I got her name wrong?. If motor trend bought the show back I would watch. Your show was awesome if you had similar videos on RUclips I would watch.
As an owner of a small business this why do what love. That why owning a shop is all about being in control of your road of travel
Thanks Dan
You seem less on edge good for the soul.
Sorry about your dad. I know what that's like, in your time no one else find comfort but don't forget to remember
Best of luck on the new show
It seems to be working for
Dennis Collins, Mark Worman
"If we have to choose between you and your car, we're not picking you!" Kinda says it all, doesn't it?
Tuna sandwich with potato chips is awesome, the only thing you need to add is cream of tomato soup. Soup needs to be kept very warm.
Stoked to come across this video and hear that you are now continuing the show here on YT!!! As a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach and Norfolk you and your team of craftsman instilled a bit of hometown pride in what you guys do. Keep up the great work and you've just gained a new, stoked, subscriber!!!
I always thought that Dan was looking for his next mark when he interviewed prospective "clients". The setup seemed the same for every show. They had to love their car more than life itself.
Bravo to you Dan. Your show was always, and has always, been the best. It was real and it was obvious it was real. I am sorry you had to go through all of the stress but glad to hear you are proud of the content you put out. We the fans knew it when we saw it and are glad you came out on top on the other end still doing what you really want to be doing, building and restoring amazing cars.
Nice genuine man. Good luck for the future.
Glad your back on the updated platforms. Real cars, real people.
Safety first too. .
Dan, I am an old retired military master jet / auto mechanic and I really miss your stories. The "show" was never a show to me. I owned an auto / boat repair shop and did things like you do I was a jet mech in the USAF and did the best job I could and expected everyone around me to do the same. I am finishing my wife's 56 T-bird and If I had the bucks to have it finished I would send it to you and I trust very few people to work on my stuff. I hope you are happier now and know that myself along with many others resect and miss watching your shop and you. Thank you! I subscribed and look forward to seeing more of you!
Dan,
for your effort in bringing a real restoration show to TV . Looking forward to new channel !
So glad to vicariously join your journey! Clearly your production contract was too one sided and you were taken advantage of like many others. Much credit to you for fulfilling your commitment. Thank you for shedding more light on your experience. Hopefully you will profit now in more ways to make it worth your while. Thank you for your honesty, integrity, realism, and your service. Good luck!
We love you Dan, you've earned the respect of millions. Don't let anyone ever put you down
I enjoyed the show a lot . I have a ??? how do you heat or can you heat that huge old high ceiling building? I see every one bundled up during the winter makes me think it wouldnt be fun in the winter.
I have full respect for you Dan!
I loved your show and now I can watch it on you tube, so cool
I saw you were always so intense on so many things and a stickler for detail.
Now I know why lol
Thank you for all your service to our country, very impressive to fly the Apache Heli and be a Green Beret.
My friend was a Green Beret and the stories he has told me just set me back in my chair eyes wide open!
Best of luck to you and your family and your crew!
The episode with your 'friend' Charlie with the problematic car, engine, and Charlie. We would love to know how that really ended. $$$$$ you paid him for his car, and your so called friendship. That guy was a first class ass.
👍👍 , I’m glad your on a path that you have chosen.
Dan, enjoyed your show, learned alot, ex navy, you have my respect, ( even if you are army!)
keep the videos coming! i will be watching!
Love it....Sorry about your Dad, first I heard of that. I might add, if you and his dna run true, he's probably thinking you were right to stay...to do and follow your obligation. As a long time viewer your commitment to the job at hand always came through. Let me also say thanks for the service you, your wife, and children have given to this country. Looking forward to more shows and hope one day to make that drive thru the midtown to check out the cars.
Thanks Dan for giving me hours of quality entertainment over the years.
I've always been a big fan of your honest, no nonsense approach to people, the business, and the cars themselves. And I've always gotten a chuckle out of (sorry for butchering this) "if we have to pick between you and your car.....we are not picking you"
Thanks for everything!
God Bless you & your family!!! Condolences for the loss of your father.
LOVE YOUR SHOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your service sir!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry that you got screwed over. You are an honest, hard working man and your work is impeccable. I do miss the show, but I’m glad things are going better for you.
It's so good to see you back on. I just well in one sense wish my husband had lived to see that but no he's so much better off in heaven. But it is good to see you. And thank you tuna with no crust.
Out of all the auto related tv programs FantomWorks and Garage Squad seemed the most honest and straight up shows. With FantomWorks
there was no buffoonery or phony deadlines, no berating of the work crew and no just getting by to make something work. Mr. Short never
seemed to shine his customers on. Plus, there were no ridiculous and over-the-top projects. Unfortunately, I came to realize that I could never
invest in a project car, no matter how much sentimental value it might have. Collectors and auctions have kicked the regular car guy in the nuts.
Dan - First and foremost thank you for your Service! Your knowledge and professional attitude is an inspiration to me. I've always considered myself experienced around Cars & Bikes having built and restored my fair share. I commend you and your shop for doing the right thing regardless of what your clients actually want to compensate you for the work.
People with deep pockets never know what takes place to do it right the first time. Besides getting the right parts and not just third party parts is the heart of a quality restoration along with the ability to see it to the end. Keep on making what makes you most content.
USAF Jet Mechanic
Even if its off the air, the show still had the best soundtrack out of anything I've heard on the Velocity Channel
I thought you was 110% committed to the car builds and doing everything to the best standard possible.
Loved the show and the work done.
Hope you’re still building/improving vehicles and doing well.
Happy new year pal.
Love ya Dan! Keep on fighting
My name Bill Thompson I used to watch that show i like the show i used work for Ryder trunk rentals in the body shop i work there from 1983 until 1998 i left there an then work for Penske trucks rental in the body shop I worked there from 2004 to 2013 they fired me i work for myself cleaning up vehicle an about restored my 1992 Chevy Silverado extended cab pick up truck i bought it in 1993 an own it for 31 years now i know to do body work an paint it myself so i will get done right it cost to much now days 😊
When I went to ODU, I had a 63' Vette w/side pipes, custom cam & heads, headers, etc. Sure wish I still had it. My Daughter acted and I can tell you first hand, that if entertainment people's mouths are moving, they are lying. Would have never agreed to making them rich at your expense 🤥
Always enjoy your authentic take on restoring cars and doing all the right things, thanks 😊
Your show ended because you used 2nd hand workers and try to charge outrages prices. Then your work was half ass. Also your I'm the best attitude sucked. How many of your cars were subject to extensive repairs. Even your freind told you to take your car and shove it. I felt so bad for alot of the seniors you overly charged. But, you got yours, right. The American dream.
If Ted is a hero to Dan, all done.
Really enjoyed the show...No BS fake trauma crap.. Having been around the biz, I could see it was not scripted trauma. Also, being a real working shop, I wondered how you could put up with a pile of camera guys and directors always messing with work. I never thought about employees demanding more because they were seen on screen. Glad you can get back to work with out the interference. We need quality providers.. So so sorry about your dad passing...
Looking forward to your OWN coverage of shop activities.. 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I enjoyed the show a lot, but i dont believe they werent paid to do the show. Who agrees to do something for nothing? Also, the show was def a boon for business so, no im not buying the hard luck tale. Woah is me, I got free advertising on TV that is still running. Woah is me, my business was helped tremendously by the show.
Dan, Your show was the greatest car show on air. I am 71 years old. Most of your builds were keeping the car pretty much original which is what I love. I graduated in 1969 and own an all number’s matching 1969 Olds 442 400 4spd Muncie close ratio with 3.90 gears. Looking forward to your new show. Jack
I miss the show because I liked the before and after and watching the highlight process of what it took to get to the finish, you could tell your cars finish product wasn't just a pile of junk with a nice paint job
Best line ever: "If we have to choose between you and your car, we're not choosing you." Way to keep it real, Dan.
As a car enthusiast the build are awesome, if you n the crew decide to keep on with the you tube channel you definitely have a fan here.
If someday I visit Norfolk I'll ask just for a photo in front the building... Always loved the show and the way Dan and everybody works. I also regret my late grandfather was unable to know the show. As a fabricator he was he would love it. Regards from Brazil.
This all sounds like what happened to Richard Rawlings. He is now on RUclips as well. He is still what he is but turned downed from 11 to 9ish. I remember once seeing a video with the OG cast of Ice Road Truckers where they talked about things. They said after the first year the pencil pushers made them make up drama and from that point everything was fake. I'll give this new channel a shot. Hopefully Dan can dial it back a bit as well.
I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. You were to picky on what you worked on. Turning work away. I couldn't stand the show.
Volume of the interesting bit is surpressed, the Narrator/Host part is fine but Not Interesting. Also What does "Tuna no Crust" have to do with the title? I am out of here, bye.
Dan, we love you!!!
Miss the show, one of my favorites.
I always enjoyed the show. While I may miss the show, I have nothing but respect for Mr. Short. Life is way more than a show on TV...
Have a good life Dan, and don't sweat the petty stuff...
