Even if you go back to the beginning when he performed on Singer in 2017 when he was only 22. He only spoke Kazakh and some Russian. His first four songs were in French, Russian, English, and Mandarin. He was the youngest, the first foreigner, and the first non-professional. The instrument is a kobyz, said to be the oldest surviving stringed instrument played with a bow. Spellings of the name vary. It's made by hand from a single piece of wood. Hi from Denmark! I'm a heavy metal lover and listener but somehow Dimash got me in his spell. I would never expect to listen, enjoy, feel so strong the emotions Dimash transmits through his songs. I have discovered him in April and since then there is no day without watching videos, reactions on you tube and each evening at least one hour of Dimash on Spotify. I still enjoy to go to metal concerts but since April I've already been to one Dimash concert and I am preparing for the next one this year. Notice that I have to cross borders to go there and to spend a lot just to participate to his magic on stage. I saw a lot of recommendations for songs to react.The list is long and it is hard to choose. I respect the vocal abilities as a singer but I am more impressed by his compositions and his way of telling the stories. In my view his masterpiece is his own composition, for which the MV idea , the performance as an actor and the story arrangement have Dimash signature. I like so much when he sings songs in his own language even though I don't understand the words, but his emotions are so strong that is impossible not to feel them totally. The songs about his country transmit so much love, consideration and respect for his heritage and his people and humbleness in loving his country. A few suggestions of some of my favorite Dimash songs: Unforgettable Day (Gakku), When I’ve Got You, Ave Maria, and Olympico. And you’re right, Dimash is a very humble guy! If you watch “Opera 2, Full Version w/English Subtitles”, you’ll see a great performance, yes, but watch the subtitles after his performance.. and you’ll see a heartwarming moment with Dimash and his father (who made a surprise visit to China from Kazakhstan to support his son❤). He also asks his father backstage if he did okay.😳 What??
You GET it. Yes, Dimash says his voice is 'just one instrument' he brings 'in service of' the story he is trying to tell. In fact, he brings many instruments. His acting, his stage presence, his composition, his many layered nuances in tone pitch and dynamics, and so much more. And of course his MANY years of training, in opera / classical voice, musical theatre, every form of contemporary voice, and traditional vocalisations from many cultures. he also plays multiple instruments and was already winning piano competitons (aged; 6?} Dimash's music transcends genre, language, land, race, religious and cultural boundaries and speaks directly to the human heart and soul. In equal part however, is his humility, his respect and appreciation of his fans and everyone he works with. Not only his fellow musicians, but his entire production crew etc. He is genuinely without a star ego. This is why he now has hundreds of millions of fans from every country on earth and from every age group! He also brought into this - and other pieces, the Kazakh KOBYZ. A very old traditional two stringed instrument, who's sound also reaches into the very bone marrow. [ This and it's other like instruments, found across that region of the world are believed to be the ancestors of most of the modern stringed instruments we are familiar with today. ie; the cello and violin etc. ] EVERYONE, hearing the Kobyz for the first time sits up straight and instantly says; "What is that! I LOVE that sound!" In ancient times the sound of the Kobyz was believed to possess special powers. Powers that could drive out evil spirits and heal the sick, and it;s use was restricted to Shaman's / Medicine men. As to that long held note? Dimash is SERIOUS about his craft. He trains his whole body like a gold standard Olympian! This includes, not only daily vocal exercises, but also core body strength ( via martial arts etc. ) and he also swims as much as he can, to maintain and expand his lung capacity. He really is in a league all his own. In addition to his genetic gifts, and the stunning unique beauty of his voice, he works damn hard! Hello, the sound that you say you like and that I also love and that I didn't know until years ago comes from the instrument called KOBYZ. The kobyz has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather. Traditionally kobyzes were sacred instruments, owned by shamans and bakses (traditional spiritual medics). According to legends, the kobyz and its music could banish evil spirits, sickness and death. It is unique in imitating the wind or the sound of animals such as wolves and the entire traditional environment of the icy mountains of Kazakhstan. For me it's one of the most ancient sounds that makes me shiver so far. I leave you with a theme from Dimash Tokyo Jazz with the song "Samaltau" where you can appreciate this instrument more in its entirety as well as the theme that is only accompanied by ancestral instruments from Dimash`s country. The flute is unique, if I'm not mistaken, called- is sygyzy and is made of bamboo and also the traditional and relaxing rainstick. Listen, it's worth it not only because of Dimash's voice but also because the ancestral simplicity of making music never changed the concept of being excellent nowadays. I love your reaction. You know the technical stuff, but you still feel what's happening and it hit you like a ton of bricks, like it should. When I first heard Dimash, I noticed that he hit all his notes cleanly and accurately. Live. There aren't that many accurate singers now that autotune is common, and he is practically perfect. He ran his vibrato - it didn't run him, as with some singers. He sings hard things so smoothly and cleanly that it took a while to notice how hard they were. The low parts were low baritone and actual bass in this song, the high parts were high tenor, nope, high soprano! And then the completeness shocked me. Pretty head voice. High mix. Big chest voice. And then those quiet parts where his voice is almost collapsing, but not quite. He's doing everything. No one does everything! Then the structure shows. He's constantly working dynamics and texture so nothing ever exactly repeats and that same phrase means something different this time. I get to be alive while this is happening! I don't deserve it, but I'm certainly not wasting it. And you clearly feel that too.

Yes…" Dimash is amazing and I am a little bit jealous of the fact that you are new to his voice…….. the thrill of finding him for the first time is so special. However there are many more wonderful things ahead for your listening pleasure ( and looking) with this incredible young man who is so unique in his skill and operatic/ pop/ jazz training since he was really young. He first started piano when about 5 yrs, going to music school each day. His mother is an operatic singer and his dad has a pleasant voice. The family all play a musical instrument ( the men). Dombra I think. Dimash can play piano, guitar, dombra, drums, xylophone and maybe more. Enjoy your Dimash journey!!!

As you said, Dimash is like a snake charmer. I've been listening to him every day since I first heard him in March last year. I like other musicians too, but Dimash's performances have me under his spell like no singer has before.

I love your reactions to Dimash. When you think you heard greatness, I sit back and wait for you to be shocked again. You are still in for more surprises than you can imagine. Even if you go back to the beginning when he performed on Singer in 2017 when he was only 22. He only spoke Kazakh and some Russian. His first four songs were in French, Russian, English, and Mandarin. He was the youngest, the first foreigner, and the first non-professional. The instrument is a kobyz, said to be the oldest surviving stringed instrument played with a bow. Spellings of the name vary. It's made by hand from a single piece of wood. (I researched the instrument in order to write a poem about it.) P.S. Igor Krutoy is the composer. They have a great partnership, plus Dimash also composes music.

Hi from Denmark! I'm a heavy metal lover and listener but somehow Dimash got me in his spell. I would never expect to listen, enjoy, feel so strong the emotions Dimash transmits through his songs. I have discovered him in April and since then there is no day without watching videos, reactions on you tube and each evening at least one hour of Dimash on Spotify. I still enjoy to go to metal concerts but since April I've already been to one Dimash concert and I am preparing for the next one this year. Notice that I have to cross borders to go there and to spend a lot just to participate to his magic on stage. I saw a lot of recommendations for songs to react.The list is long and it is hard to choose. I respect the vocal abilities as a singer but I am more impressed by his compositions and his way of telling the stories. In my view his masterpiece is his own composition, for which the MV idea , the performance as an actor and the story arrangement have Dimash signature. I like so much when he sings songs in his own language even though I don't understand the words, but his emotions are so strong that is impossible not to feel them totally. The songs about his country transmit so much love, consideration and respect for his heritage and his people and humbleness in loving his country. He truly is the greatest singer on the planet, perhaps even the greatest singer of all time! A few suggestions of some of my favorite Dimash songs: Unforgettable Day (Gakku), When I’ve Got You, Ave Maria, and Olympico. And you’re right, Dimash is a very humble guy! If you watch “Opera 2, Full Version w/English Subtitles”, you’ll see a great performance, yes, but watch the subtitles after his performance.. and you’ll see a heartwarming moment with Dimash and his father (who made a surprise visit to China from Kazakhstan to support his son❤). He also asks his father backstage if he did okay.😳 What??

You GET it. Yes, Dimash says his voice is 'just one instrument' he brings 'in service of' the story he is trying to tell. In fact, he brings many instruments. His acting, his stage presence, his composition, his many layered nuances in tone pitch and dynamics, and so much more.
And of course his MANY years of training, in opera / classical voice, musical theatre, every form of contemporary voice, and traditional vocalisations from many cultures. he also plays multiple instruments and was already winning piano competitons (aged; 6?}
Dimash's music transcends genre, language, land, race, religious and cultural boundaries and speaks directly to the human heart and soul. In equal part however, is his humility, his respect and appreciation of his fans and everyone he works with. Not only his fellow musicians, but his entire production crew etc. He is genuinely without a star ego. This is why he now has hundreds of millions of fans from every country on earth and from every age group!
He also brought into this - and other pieces, the Kazakh KOBYZ. A very old traditional two stringed instrument, who's sound also reaches into the very bone marrow. [ This and it's other like instruments, found across that region of the world are believed to be the ancestors of most of the modern stringed instruments we are familiar with today. ie; the cello and violin etc. ]
EVERYONE, hearing the Kobyz for the first time sits up straight and instantly says; "What is that! I LOVE that sound!" In ancient times the sound of the Kobyz was believed to possess special powers. Powers that could drive out evil spirits and heal the sick, and it;s use was restricted to Shaman's / Medicine men.
As to that long held note? Dimash is SERIOUS about his craft. He trains his whole body like a gold standard Olympian! This includes, not only daily vocal exercises, but also core body strength ( via martial arts etc. ) and he also swims as much as he can, to maintain and expand his lung capacity. He really is in a league all his own. In addition to his genetic gifts, and the stunning unique beauty of his voice, he works damn hard! If you can identify ANYONE anywhere who has been training this hard, daily, for the past 1/4 of a century - Great! Put them forward and let's listen. 😆😄👋👋👋

Hello, the sound that you say you like and that I also love and that I didn't know until years ago comes from the instrument called KOBYZ.
The kobyz has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather. Traditionally kobyzes were sacred instruments, owned by shamans and bakses (traditional spiritual medics). According to legends, the kobyz and its music could banish evil spirits, sickness and death. It is unique in imitating the wind or the sound of animals such as wolves and the entire traditional environment of the icy mountains of Kazakhstan. For me it's one of the most ancient sounds that makes me shiver so far. I leave you with a theme from Dimash Tokyo Jazz with the song "Samaltau" where you can appreciate this instrument more in its entirety as well as the theme that is only accompanied by ancestral instruments from Dimash`s country. The flute is unique, if I'm not mistaken, called- is sygyzy and is made of bamboo and also the traditional and relaxing rainstick. Listen, it's worth it not only because of Dimash's voice but also because the ancestral simplicity of making music never changed the concept of being excellent nowadays.

I love your reaction. You know the technical stuff, but you still feel what's happening and it hit you like a ton of bricks, like it should.
When I first heard Dimash, I noticed that he hit all his notes cleanly and accurately. Live. There aren't that many accurate singers now that autotune is common, and he is practically perfect. He ran his vibrato - it didn't run him, as with some singers.
He sings hard things so smoothly and cleanly that it took a while to notice how hard they were. The low parts were low baritone and actual bass in this song, the high parts were high tenor, nope, high soprano! And then the completeness shocked me. Pretty head voice. High mix. Big chest voice. And then those quiet parts where his voice is almost collapsing, but not quite. He's doing everything. No one does everything! Then the structure shows. He's constantly working dynamics and texture so nothing ever exactly repeats and that same phrase means something different this time. I get to be alive while this is happening! I don't deserve it, but I'm certainly not wasting it. And you clearly feel that too.

Yes…" Dimash is amazing and I am a little bit jealous of the fact that you are new to his voice…….. the thrill of finding him for the first time is so special. However there are many more wonderful things ahead for your listening pleasure ( and looking) with this incredible young man who is so unique in his skill and operatic/ pop/ jazz training since he was really young. He first started piano when about 5 yrs, going to music school each day. His mother is an operatic singer and his dad has a pleasant voice. The family all play a musical instrument ( the men). Dombra I think. Dimash can play piano, guitar, dombra, drums, xylophone and maybe more. Enjoy your Dimash journey!!!
