Hey Brad - nice vids! Check out the Fender Mount NMO Antenna Bracket. You can still unscrew the antenna from the mount but will give you a better ground. The suction mount is a neat find!
Awesome video Brad! Very helpful. I am in the process of moving from HAM to GMRS because of its ease of use and having such a low barrier to entry as compared to HAM
Thanks Danan! I believe for what we do GMRS is the ticket! Ham has alot of value still but the licensing requirements can be a barrier for some and GMRS allows for a good mix between power and access!
Double sided sticky tape and its been holding out great! No further disassembly required to get it there, but it does just barely fit. Just be careful to not push it all the way back so there's room for the steering shaft!
Great video (as usual). I have the portable midlands, and so far have worked really well. Just 2 questions: 1) won't that mounting base interfere with the airbag deployment? 2) what's happening to the 275 you removed?
Thanks man! Yes, the JeepUniq mount could, however I think it would just snap or rotate on deployment, I dont ride around with the portable on their off the trail so I am not super concerned about that, but its something we absolutely thought about! It is easy and quick to put on and remove, so in theory we could remove it when not needed and install it before adventures! are you still looking for a radio?
Great question, The Midland Whip antenna does not require any grounding, nor does the ghost antenna so I had no issue with that. If this were a HAM radio or a different style, I may run into that exact issue, which would require a creative solution!
coiling coax potentially *reduces* interference by adding impedance to the outer surface of the outer conductor, bringing into opposing balance the currents of the inner surface of the outer conductor and the inner conductor. you'll see coax looped near the antenna feedpoint of repeaters to take advantage of this effect. the same effect as using ferrite (but ferrite may have effect over a greater range of frequencies). of course too 'tight' a coil could mechanically damage the coax, maybe that's where this urban myth got started. (but someone comment - too many loops might add unwanted capacitance? I need some more theory)
Excess loosely coiled antenna cable has no negative effect on GMRS. If it has tight bends and wound extremely tight and forcefully bound together that is a different situation that should be avoided. Loosely wound with no tight bends is perfectly fine. I too have my excess antenna cable loosely wound in the cowl area and it’s a non issue.
It appears to be a beefier wiring harness, bigger fuses, larger wire, I thought about just leaving the old harness in place but I err'd on the side of caution.
Thank you for the feedback! Every video is a chance to learn how to be better! Unfortunately I can't turn it off once it's been posted, but I am keeping it in mind for future videos!
It is beyond me why RUclips content creators think it is cool to play music over their voice. We came to hear you not to fight music to hear you. Many folks have hearing difficulties and they must concentrate on tuning out the annoying background music.
Please accept my sincerest apologies! I am constantly learning and improving in my content creation! If you need clarification on anything that was said or any questions you might have please let me know! I would love to help in anyway I can!
Some of the best explanations we’ve ever seen with a radio install! Thanks for helping us plan out our own 575 install!
Thank you SSV! Cant wait to hit the trail with Y'all again soon and have some awesome comms!

Thank you Greg! Hope all is well! I for sure will!

Brad I installed my 575 in the same spot. Love that is hidden out of those curious eyes.
It such an good spot! out of view, secure and protected!
How exactly did you mount it? Sticky tape, screws, etc? Any additional disassembly required to get it tucked up in there?

How does the suction antenna mount provide the necessary grounding for the antenna?

@@Overlanderoos thanks. I have the Ghost antenna, but it’s mounted in the roof.

Thanks for that! Yeah it's hard for me to say one way or another so I erred on the side of caution and took out the excess.

Awesome! Everyday is a learning day! Thanks for that!
If upgrading from 275 to 575 could you just swap out the unit? Or is it a whole different wiring harness?
It appears to be a beefier wiring harness, bigger fuses, larger wire, I thought about just leaving the old harness in place but I err'd on the side of caution.
Where’s the link to that suction mount please
No worries thanks 🙏
That link might not work, I'm working on it right now. Sorry!!!!
@@Overlanderoos ya it did not lol
Alright , this should get it done! Sorry about that!

Cool shirt....where did you get it?
Thank you! It was a gift! but I'm pretty sure it can be had from Etsy.
Super amazing tutorial. But why play music in the background? Turn it off. PLEASE!.
