Great surprise video, David!!! It went nicely loading and unloading. Love the coal unloader 2000!!! Things are going well here in Pittsburgh, Pa. Glad things are well with you! See you next time!

Thanks Mike, I’m off work for a couple of weeks so I’m spending time in the train room so I’m not getting under my wife’s feet too much while she runs her business.

Great update David, I use a similar method for my coal cars and my scrap metal loads ( plastic and other junk). It’s these little things that add so much to the enjoyment of the layout. I only use about 5 coal cars at a time because they are used to deliver coal to my power station. Occasionally I will do a run through coal drag… keeps me busy! Cheers and thanks for sharing, from Melbourne.

      Thanks Greg,
When I operate I probably won’t try to run such long trains. What is your layout?

@@nessriverrailroad1299 I have a 3m x 3.5 m single level layout roughly representing Colorado in the late 70's through to absorption into the UP System in '89. My locomotive are from D&RGW, BN, Santa Fe, SP, UP, Rock Island, Mopac and CB&Q (Pre BN). I have a small Union Station representing Denver and another yard representing Colorado Springs to the south. I generally run ten to 15 car length trains around the layout (As Locals) with a couple of through-running manifests and coal drags (older style cars). I am also a passenger train enthusiast and I have a full California Zephyr consist that I run with A PA1-PB1- PA1 lashup. I also run a modern Amtrak California Zephyr with P42's or an F40PH

Nice work David. The coal loads look great, much better than the shiny out of the box look. Good idea on the tool too, I don't use coal but might do something similar for the junk metal loads in my gondolas. - Steve

1 more to go and I've caught up.
This has been one hell of a binge ride.
Seriously, you can build a train layout to be proud of. :)

Great coal operation. And congratulations on the Coal lifter 2000. Thinking you might have a little business making them. 👍

That's a pretty smart idea to add magnets in the coal loads to easily lift them out! :D I'll try to incorporate that into my coal loads!
Also I hope you nurse that one locomotive back to good health! :D

I’m glad you like it. One thing I didn’t mention in this video that I did in the original is sanding down the edges of the coal loads so they pop in and out easy.

That is smart! I questioned putting the weight so high up in the car, but I get it now!

I did think about the high weight too but it doesn’t add that much.

Hi David , hope everything is well down under. We all have little hiccups with our layouts. But we always get through it. Did enjoy the video on how you load and unload your coal cars. I do have a question about your peninsula how wide is it. And do you have any reverse loops. I’m in the planning stages of expanding my layout. We’re in the process of building a new home in the near future. So I’m getting a room just for my trains so I’m going to expand my small layout. My layout is just a 4 x 7 1/2 feet. So I’m looking forward to getting to run some long Trains. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎 👍

      Hey Tommy,
I’ll have a measure and get back to you.
I four auto reverse loops on the layout, I use the Digitrax AR1, they’re simple to install and do the job well.

Be cool to make an electromagnet version to automatically unload the cars eventually
