- A scene in the movie "The Edge", where Anthony Hopkins explains a wisdom, that brilliantly sets the premise to the movie. The historical reference to the methaphor of the Rabbit and the Jaguar, (Cree Indians bit.ly/yWAq9V ) explain a deeper context of meanings which can be applied in life.
You can tell that Anthony Hopkins is just a person with class.
Yep. He gave Mickey Rourke SIX CHANCES to make the same choice.and when he refused to, (on the set of "Desperate Hours") he LITERALLY beat him so bad six STUNTMEN had to pull him off of him. Next time, LISTEN to warnings from the stunt coordinator.
Not really, he's acting like a billionaire in this role.
And that Alex Baldwin is not.
I can't because I don't know him. To me, he's just another Hollywood stooge. Why isn't he telling everyone what's going on in stein's island and private jets if he's such a class?
Facts... did you catch his will smith diss to will smith directly.. after the Chris rock slap... will just say there grinning that serial killer clown smile 😂
I will forever love this film. Makes me think of my best friend in the world (RIP). We watched this movie together at least 100 X. I watch it every year on his birthday. Miss you Big Chris.
You still watch it on his birthday?
@@CSC52698 Every single year.
@@thomasfox8027, that's awesome. It's one of the most underrated films of all time. I love this movie. Ignored Oscar Snubbed Performances by Sir Anthony Hopkins, and especially Alec Baldwin.
10/10 film.
RIP Big Chris.
@@CSC52698 I absolutely agree on all counts. And thank you so much. I really appreciate that a lot. If you happen to look up at a calendar this coming March 22nd, know that I will be out there watching this wonderful film again in his honor.
@@thomasfox8027 what a tribute
This is the comfiest 90s movies ever. Its so easy to watch
100% couldn't agree more, love this movie 😊
@jonathanbirch2022 with some bear maulings and a cup of hot chocolate
I love the reference in this movie as it's the key as what's going to come. Charles is like the rabbit as he's unafraid and smarter than Bob (Steve also) which is the main reason he survived, with Bob being the panther as Charles is his prey as he wants to kill him to get his wife and money. I also love how kind and modest his character is (Charles), especially the line at the end of the movie, "They died, saving my life" even though Bob tried to kill him whereas Charles did his upmost best to save his life.
Great movie. Highly underrated. Remember watching it for the first time as a kid. Have not stopped watching it since.
One of the most inspirational movies, without it actually claiming to be one.
@@tspandya Especially thanks to Sir Anthony Hopkins at his best as always.
Epic, classic movie!
Love how Anthony Hopkins character Charles in the end asks the same metaphoric question the lodge owner had previously challenged him with...
Charles: "Why is the rabbit unafraid?"
Lodge Owner: " Because he's smarter than the panther."
I could be wrong, but it's as if he's suggesting that he may have outsmarted Baldwin's character Bob who wasn't smart enough to kill him or survive himself.
You have a great chest lady ! And you know it.
@@alhassanait1749 Classy.
@@thomasfox8027 What ?!
I took it as more broad...like he's smarter than the wild.
@Freakn Clean Never thought of that. I always thought it was in reference to him not being afraid the the bear, because he outsmarts it.
"I seem to retain all these facts, but putting them to any useful purpose is another matter."
-The billionaire, clearly having been unable to put his knowledge to use
🤣
Always good it fits
The importance of extensive reading and how helpful was the latter,in this case,to survive in the wilderness.
Sir Anthony is the goat.
What a great movie, great acting, and a GREAT script!
Baldwin just plays himself.
🤣
Especially the part later in the movie where he shoots someone

This is a great movie. Anthony Hopkins is in the top of my all time favorite actors
A sign of a Polymath….someone who retains all kinds of diverse information…but who also finds it a challenge to do anything with all that knowledge, that results in proper remuneration….yup. 1st hand.
Very very interesting comment. Loved it
Me as well.
He's a billionaire lol

Watch the film mate, it's good.@@Chimonger1
Like how he keeps the five bucks: a bet's a bet.
agree with stirange - despite his immense wealth, it’d be snobby to refuse it
Your Damn Right.
He'd probably spend it back on the lodge caretaker in someway by buying something or tipping him
Subtle, but that was the way to play that.
Then turn around and buy something from the guy.
You want him to rub it in by not accepting it?
Because he's smarter than the panther.
He's old and wise. It's enviable!
great movie, never feel bad for a man that owns his own plane
Unless their pilot is banging their wife.
From a time when flying a private jet wasn't a considered a crime!

I'm a person who has lived in many countries. We have changed the world....and not for the better.
Shocking, that a woman can't respect her husband for his intelligence.
That's not so strange...
also true for men
Hypergamy makes them go after money
Women aren't biologically programmed to be attracted to intelligence. It's one facet - sure, but they are more subconsciously attracted to strong men who can provide them resources AND protect them. Charles can provide resources, but he's old and frail. Doesn't check all of the boxes.
This tale is from the book "The Survival of the Bark Canoe"
He sits unafraid he smokes his pipe it's a traditional motif. Because he's smarter than the panther.
A freak!!!
I wouldn’t mind being able to retain all facts like that.
Excellent movie.
Lovely movie
Alec Baldwin got annoyed because he won $5 to add to his BILLION
LQ Jones is so good in this movie.
It would have been awesome if he was on the plane with them.
Yeah, but that’s one of the reasons Charles decided to go on that plane ride. To get away from him. Remember? They had a little falling out. Charles thought that the resort manager wanted money for improvement projects.
@@tleav61 Exactly, and they share a wry smile at the end too. Really nicely played by LQ.
0:14 Charles should have been like, “fuck you, you don’t know me.”
It's a rabbit shooting a cinematographer.
The rabbit is smarter than the cinematographer.
@Akshay Natu correct.
"I'm dying and I never did a goddam thing...."
Easy Bob.
"Charles, she was never in on it..."
Fading.
"Charles, I'm sorry..."
Agree with others- great movie that undercuts and subverts all the normal Hollywood themes. How many movies are about envy? Great dialogue and acting. Similar themes to The Fountainhead without the preachiness. Mamet did a great job.
It's true. As a rabbit owner. :)
I’m hunting wabbits
"Charles...Charles..Chals..Chals."
1:38 he knows
87% of Baldwin’s dialog was just saying “Charles”
Sir Anthony Hopkins is the man 😎
Dog (or wolf) on lamp behind Baldwin: subliminal cue/suggestion/association.
It’d be cool for this character to go toe to toe with Hannibal Lector but still played by the same actor
Never too late for a kind gesture ay Charles?
A gem of a movie.
Alec Baldwin: "Charles.....Charles....listen to me Charles..."
Best performance
Was by the cursor.
Love this movie
Filme bom
i'd like to know what were Lee Tamahori's and David Mamet's interpretations on this particular scene.
I got lost in the woods and found my way back here.
Not a great film like so many people claim, but the dialogue is engagingly theatrical thanks to David Mamet.
What’s the movie name
球哥 The Edge
Josh Head Thanks
This isn't an actual SPOILER ALERT, but the metaphor might give away something:
It's the perfect analogy for Bob and Charles. Bob is the panther and Charles the rabbit who's even smoking the cigar because of how superior he is to him.
there is also another saying that is not said in this movie, "knowledge is power"
Proverbs 24:5-14
Wisdom brings strength, and knowledge gives power. Battles are won by listening to advice and making a lot of plans. Wisdom is too much for fools! Their advice is no good. No one but troublemakers think up trouble. Everyone hates senseless fools who think up ways to sin. Don't give up and be helpless in times of trouble. Don't fail to rescue those who are doomed to die. Don't say, “I didn't know it!” God can read your mind. He watches each of us and knows our thoughts. And God will pay us back for what we do. Honey is good for you, my children, and it tastes sweet. Wisdom is like honey for your life- if you find it, your future is bright.
Great film - Anthony Hopkins at his finest - and the only worthwhile thing , Alec Baldwin ever did in an otherwise wasted life
Prophetic movie, but this time Alec didn't miss.
Who travels with needle. I doesn't feel north Charles. I like the coffee like the way I like my women. Fire from ice how? Do I need to make fucking Sphere. Find round stones. We have to walk out from here. I want to make my life which is unequivocal. I haven't seen any persons who rather changed their lives. What is that one thing they could have done that would have saved their lives. THINKING.
Nice movie.
She was right Charles didn’t know everything. Charles also know you and your boyfriend brought him up that killing.

I’ve never heard of this movie
Alec Baldwin is an innocent man 100 percent
Lmao
Anthony is just being himself .
Hopkins based his part on Donald Trump
LOL not even close. If you had to compare, Donald Trump is closer to Bob. Two faced, selfish, arrogant, and not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Trump wouldn't last 5 minutes alone in the wilderness.
Just watched this movie yesterday. It was pretty good. The acting, script, and locations were all good. Was able to care about the characters easily. Tried watching a north Canadian wilderness crash movie after this one. I hated the lead character, who we are supposed to like, so I dumped that other movie after watching just a bit of it. The female lead seemed nice though, but that wasn't enough to overcome my dislike of the male lead. Besides she only spoke in either Eskimo or Inuit, so I couldn't understand what she was saying, and her character was sick for a while, so she wasn't talking much anyway.
The Hopkins/Baldwin movie is much better. I really liked the character that Hopkins was playing. He nailed the role.📽️🎞️🎬🎭🎟️
The Edge is a really good film. Written by David Mamet, who's a great writer.
The other movie sounds a lot like The Snow Walker - early 2000's film. Decent movie.
