    One thing I really enjoy about my PA 2x prism is that in low light shooting I never have to worry about my weapon light washing out an illuminated dot or reticle on a led or holo sight. When I turn my light on the black reticle shows up very nicely. Not saying prisms with etched reticles are the end all be all but thats a benefit I've come to appreciate

    just got the 3x for a 14.5" AR build. 61 years old, and was hitting playing cards at 200 yards without my glasses. Very pleased, as I'm usually going with 7x LER to 24x ffp...or a red dot at 100 yards max. My son's a Marine, has one on an AR as well and likes it.

      @@paddlesailnitro1 no. im making my first optics purchases. I was going to use a red dot with a type of ACSS reticle/magnifier combo on a 556 firearm capable of making certain ~62 grain rounds terminally effective out to about 300 yards.

      @@mghegotagun I'm really liking the 3x Primary Arms prism, and for me, that would work. It's also decent at quick acquisition imo, both eyes open and peripheral both sides of magnified field of vision. I bought their 2.5x after trying a red dot/magnifier combo which didnt work out for me. The 2.5 is nice out to 150 for me, a bit shaky shooting 12" steel at 200, and my 9 inch steel st 320 was out if the question...so I broke out the .308 RPR with the 24x ffp Vortex and got bored lol. Just realize that going bigger on fixed magnification will be less ideal at closer range and slow down aquisition. I really like the PA 3x. I'm sure if it didn't work out, you could exchange it for bigger ir smaller.

    Just got my PA 3X ACSS prism a month ago. I absolutely love it. That paired with the an RMR on a Arisaka Offset Optic Mount it’s way better than anything I ever had in Marines. Could easily hit a silhouette target at 400 yards firing every 2 to 3 seconds off my range bag.
    The BDC is spot on.

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 2 года назад +7

      @ dloverland - Re: "That paired with the an RMR on a Arisaka Offset Optic Mount it’s way better than anything I ever had in Marines."
      Dmitri M. at PA, the designer of the amazing ACSS reticles, really did his homework in designing that thing. He interviewed civilians, military, all kinds of shooters. He was particularly interested in finding out the primary causes for missed shots at medium/long range, and what he discovered was (1) improper range determination and (2) difficulty with wind. He also wanted a BDC-based system which eliminated as much math as possible, and allowed the user to get and stay on target faster and also more-accurately. He borrowed successful features from previous designs where possible, including the old Soviet PSO-1 scopes and the Trijicon ACOG, but also created new features of his own. ACOGs are legendary, and with good reason, but even Trijicon couldn't come up with a design to beat the ACSS, so they licensed it from PA instead. As an added bonus, time permitting, Dmitri sometimes (or his colleagues) will work with users of unusual loads to dope them out for the best use of their reticle designs.
      There are a lot of very good optics firms in business these days, and competition for the customer's business is fierce, but PA has really set themselves apart. Not even Nightforce, U.S. Optics, Zeiss, Leupold, S&B, etc. offer anything as good as the ACSS.

    Much obliged, my friend. This was the exact info I needed and had looked for on other channels, but had not been able to find. You just saved me from likely spending money I cannot afford to lose on optics that would not have served my needs. These Primary Arms units appear to fit my needs as well as possible. I'm 70, with astigmatisms in both eyes, and find that red/green dots and holographic sights don't work for me as primary sights. I can still use a tiny, light weight pistol type sight as a backup to my main sighting system, as the little sparkling glob I see still paints a rapidly acquired, close range target well enough. I do prefer the tiny dot sight to be mounted on the gun, at 45 degrees to the right, rather connected to the primary sight. That way, if my primary sight, or its mounting system fails or is damaged, the little backup sight is still on target. Iron sights on long guns have become completely useless to me. I already knew about the importance of an etched reticle, but didn't realize how important a diopter adjustment ring would be. Thanks, again!

A 3x prism that's small like the 1x Primary in this video. Size and weight is very impressive, glass is clear, eye focus works good for bad vision. I just bought the 5x and love it for my SPR.. only complaints are eye relief (note I'm using a fixed A2 stock) and the illumination dial is ridiculously hard to turn. I believe it takes ACOG mounts though, and I'll probably be trying an American Defense Mfg mount to bring it back about two inches. For me, the fixed power makes so much more sense for a platform that wont be shooting further than 800 meters. Less moving parts and weight than similar LPVOs or traditional scopes, less money than an ACOG with superior eye relief. An offset red dot will be a perfect addition to the 5x.

    But I don't really understand the concept of the 2x prisms. Not really enough magnification to make a practical difference in my opinion. I'd rather go with a 3x, which I personally consider a jack of all trades style optic, to super impose the reticle for CQB and still has enough magnification to see at moderate distances for identification and improved precision capabilities.

      @dbmail545 4 года назад

      The 2x is still a force multiplier, especially with the BDI reticle. About as much as you would want for a subsonic cartridge.

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 2 года назад +1

      @ The Irishman - The ACSS features appear sort of small at 2x, but that's the price of that power level. I'm speculating, but some shooters like 1.5-2x because it offers a bigger field of view and allows one to use a prism almost like a red-dot or reflex sight. Back in the 1970s, Steyr of Austria offered their AUG bull-pup carbine for the first time, with a then-innovative permanently-attached 1.5xpower magnified optic.
      For my part, I wish PA and Dmitri - the designer of the ACSS line - would offer a 3.5 or 4x like an ACOG, but I think since PA licenses some of their ACSS designs to Trijicon, PA may have agreed to leave that power range alone as part of the deal. I don't know that, but it is conspicuous that their prism optics don't appear in either of those magnifications. A 3.5x would be just right, IMO. The 3x is nice, and so is the 5x (though it is heavy, it is very accurate), but the sweet spot would be 3.5-4x.

The kicker - this is with a Tippman .22LR. I know the BDC won't align, but for target acquisition, speed, LR shooting, which do you feel would be best suited - 2X or 3X?

The rail, plus the rail mount, plus the body of an RMR raise it up too high to get any sort of cheek or chin weld while piggybacked on the 5x Prism. A direct mount would be tits.
