Definitely an introduction to how Japan actually has families, girlfriends/boyfriends, grandparents, etc that you can rent. Even grieving people lol...
This isn't a horror film. It's a psychological thriller. I myself watched this movie before watching Jisatsu Sākuru and it made sense.. but I will warn you this movie is very emotional and you'll most likely break down somewhere along the line but all in all it's an outstanding piece of work and it's probably one of the most fucked up movies of all time.
This is one of the best movies ever made! It's one of those movies you will think about for a long time after you watched it. Watch Suicide Club first though, even if that's another movie genre, so you get some of the background story.
i so totally got suicide circle, the message is really good. but i love this movie, norikos dinner table almost made me cry at the end......... loved it really good
The first song was really hard to find, but its the Minuet op.11 No. 5, by Fernando Sor (spanish guitar player); The second song is called "The Lemon Song", its in the movie OST.
@shadowpal2 Sono Shion is definitely someone whose work is completely original which I greatly admire him for, but the story of Suicide Club and Noriko's Dinner Table just didn't attract me or let me keep watching. One of his works which was incredibly long (4 hours approx.) known as Ai no Mukidashi is truly an INCREDIBLE masterpiece. Following the theme of cults/identity/purpose of life/family, Love Exposure just has a really captivating story. That I have to say is Sono's best work so far.
SPOILERS FOR THIS BRILLIANT FILM: I watched this movie yesterday. Absolutely brilliant. Loads more tense and exciting than Suicide Club. Even inspired me to get back to writing again. But damn, did I start realizing Kumiko was so fucked up. And, for that stabbing scene, look at her, just lying down while her friend gets stabbed to death and the murderer acting like nothing happened. It's unsettling. After the death, Kumiko and the killer acting as casual as a couple going grocery shopping. But that's the whole appeal of this movie and Sion Sono's other films. They are brilliant, always leaving you wanting more, weird, tense and thrilling as hell. Like a Haruki Murakami movie-tized, but loads better. I love it. Also, Kumiko is pretty sexy when she jumps stomach first onto the bed and you see her black bra through her dark see through top. 😍😣 makes me weak AF. Yeah. Scene is pretty disturbing though. And how: Sisters got brainwashed because of Kumiko, and denied their dad and seen him as a total stranger when he tried hugging "Mitsuko"/Noriko. 😭 The part with Kumiko meeting her real mother(???) was funny as hell, Kumiko's reactions and her gesturing for someone to get this "crazy woman" away from her. I was laughing like mad. Was cool when Noriko became sexy though. Her glasses off and everything while she was in that room with Kumiko. Before that, Noriko looked like a tranny to me, but as the movie goes on, she just looks more attractive. It was crazy. Both sisters started looking less ugly as time passed. Anyway, was Kumiko really born in a locker? I assumed she was abandoned in that locker as a baby. She might as well have been born inside it. Kumiko, the girl(woman?) who never had a family, but runs a Fake Family business. The sisters, who pretended to be fake sisters and denied their real dad when they reunited with him. It was a deep movie. Deeper than a oil rig. Also, I ended up skipping past the second to last part on accident and seeing the last part, which confused me when I seen the dad sleeping next to Kumiko when I remembered he was just fighting her. Lol. Depressed Yuka ran away the same time Noriko decided to become her normal self again. Screwed Yuka up forever. And so, the girls never found out their mom died? It was a amusing, disturbing, heartwarming(??? Actually, not really) movie.
Ha, all of you are wrong it actually happens before during and after suicide club... if any of you had both of the actual dvds you would know that instead of making stupid assumptions...
Yeah, I just watched it now and the Suicide Club made no sense to me, but this movie should be worth watching and I heard there going to make a third one.
I liked this film's approach on the generation gap and I sympathised with Tetsuzo's character, but the pacing was the real horror in this film. They could have cut some unnecessary scenes and sped up others to make at least a 2-hour movie
not sure if anyone said this but this is not a prequel. its its own movie. it was happening durring and after the suicide club timeline . apparently the director was thinking of making a sequel since the ending leaves unfinished really with full of holes. imo theirs a higher power to the kids in suicide club
Yeah the Norikos story is complete! But it will be a third but not with Norikos story it is complete, but the Suicide club will be answer for a third movie ^^
okay, suicide club was about this kids who would ask the question would people stop loving you if you die. i think that was it. well thats all the did, those girls just figured out the code in the poster, called the number, and the little boy asked. the skin is showing the asked. the girl at the end didnt die cause she said she knows who she is. now this i havent seen, so i dunno what this is about.
but it appears as the first name of a main character in suicide club ,Noriko's dinner table and for a completely different significant character in the manga isn't that a bit of a coincidence i thought maybe it was deliberate?
Okay, I know this is a pain, but I found out about the original 'Suicide Club' Film about two years ago, and I watched this too, and i still don't get it. What were their 'roles' ? I still dont understand any of it, could someone please explain? I'd be truly greatful. Thank you. =)
@eknick have to agree with you! the characters just felt very one-dimensional. I mean sure the characters had that sudden "awakening" at the end of the film, but it really didn't capture the transition. But considering the somewhat complex story with the whole: BEING BRAINWASHED & RUNNING AWAY from reality by acting as someone...I guess the characters just became lost.
Asian horror certainly is the best, but I'll be frankly honest by saying that Jisatsu Sakuru and this one just didn't hook me. I kept watching, but it was quite honestly exhausting me. I just thought that there could have been so much more than just philosophical conversation/voice overs. Sono may have given us some shocking scenes, but honestly...it just bored me. Symbolism, Philosophy, & Themes are great...but the story just need more unexpected thrill to it.
im going to watch this because i just watched suicide club last night and this is the third time i watched it and i still dont get it or anything about that "connection" thing someone plz explain this to me
I really didn't get this movie. I mean I understood the plot and everything, but I still don't understand why everyone killed themselves in the first one. I watched this movie, simply for the explanation, which really wasn't given. What I got from it was that the people who worked for the fake family company, sometimes had to play a role that involved killing themselves. That doesn't really make sense to me. And why would 54 people do it at the same time? This should have been a stand alone film
@ForeverTomie And what part of "sociology of the dejected" does not include snapping back to reality? I didn't feel there was anything wrong with what the film was trying to say...but rather the way the film was trying to express it. The pace, the chracters, etc. And yes I know what "one dimensional" means. I just don't feel many of the characters grow from it...perhaps they really did in the story, but Sono didn't show it well. I'll stop whoring Love Exposure, when you stop whoring this.
@ForeverTomie and yet you haven't any reasons to defend your thinking. JUST SIMPLY BASH the other guy's opinion and not even listen to what he has to say about other movies. watch Love Exposure
I enjoyed sucide club but i thought this film was more of a famiy drama. definately no where near as good as the prequel & most definately not a horror film. some people loved it so its kinda like marmite as i thought it was somewhat slow to say the least & considerably crap. in fact i want 1hr & 55 minutes of my life back.
American horror films are too graphics enhanced and *scientific* lol Asian horror films got that cultural mystique element and are low budget, that's all it takes to make a good "scared to take a piss at night" film. hahaha
I love dark water too. I love Japanese horror movies, there are some real good Korean horror movies as well :) I haven't watch this film yet but they seem like different kind of movies if i judge for other Sion Sono films.
i really wanted to like this film... but i didn't, character development were shallow, uninteresting, it almost feels as if the director is trying too hard to make this film "off beat"... very disappointing.
Well, Idk but I have to say, I hate this movie. Why? Well this story is great, crazy, sequel blah blah. But all I think while watching this movie is "family", I feel really bad. I love my family, and I feel bad for the families in that film. I have a great parents and brothers, I love them so much. And I hope my kids in the future will not be like those girls. I hope them love their family like I always do. One more thing, after watching it, I feel like "suicide" means loser.
This wasn't supposed to be funny, if you thought it was supposed to be, you have problems. You either love or hate it, don't say a movie like this wasn't funny like what?
This movie gave me so many different emotions.
It was amazing.
The weirdest thing is that many years later Japan now has rent-a-family businesses like the one in the movie, it's so fucked up!
amazing film....its really the rarest type of movie.......super interesting and gut wrenching.
If u listen it sounds like ff2
Definitely an introduction to how Japan actually has families, girlfriends/boyfriends, grandparents, etc that you can rent. Even grieving people lol...
Watched it today... I feel like it might be going in favorites.

Mistuko and Noriko are really common names...
They were in Battle Royale too...
^.^
yay
Suicide Club is about your connection to yourself. Supposedly NDT is about your connection to other people. I haven't seen NDT, but I want to!
How many of you would like to see a sequel to this, taking on Yuka's story this time??? It would be great i think...!
Best movie I've ever seen. I got a tangerine tattooed on my leg because of it.
This is one of the best movies ever made! It's one of those movies you will think about for a long time after you watched it. Watch Suicide Club first though, even if that's another movie genre, so you get some of the background story.
BRILLIANT .

I watched this movie a few months ago. I really enjoyed watching it. It was really good.
i love this movie so much!WHY'D THEY HAVE TO TAKE IT OFF RUclips!?
i so totally got suicide circle, the message is really good. but i love this movie, norikos dinner table almost made me cry at the end......... loved it really good
I loooved the ending for this movie. What a tweest!
Glad I have it on DVD
The first song was really hard to find, but its the Minuet op.11 No. 5, by Fernando Sor (spanish guitar player);

Good stuff
Not a commercial movie, this is for people think that cinema is before all an esperience. Great movie, and the music...

Original and very, very disturbing. A master-piece.
came here after watching conan o'brien's rental family video. i can't believe it's an actual service in 2018
@shadowpal2

Dont understand why you had to call noriko a tr*nny but ok 💀💀
Noriko's Dinner Table is way better then Suicide Circle.
More drama then horror but has kickass plot and acting!
loved this movie so much!
i love suicide club....and this is a much better film.
watch it.
Hoo shite
Ha, all of you are wrong it actually happens before during and after suicide club... if any of you had both of the actual dvds you would know that instead of making stupid assumptions...
Oh, I'm gonna watch both. Heard too many good things about them. I just havent done it yet because I'm not sure which was the sequel to which. Thanks.
korean films are starting to be kick ass.
SonofSivadas korean? Really?
somebody know what's the name song of theme aperture on guitar? sounds like Fernando Sor.
i wanna know it too
EDIT: You was so close. It's the Minuet no.5 in D byFernando Sor.
Which one is better to watch first?
suicide club :))
Awsome experience !!!!
this is based on Japanese manga. all i remember was the scene student jumping in front of subway
yeah , the manga is called Jisatsu Circle
I love so much this film!!!!!!!! sometimes i understood the situation u.u
Yeah, I just watched it now and the Suicide Club made no sense to me, but this movie should be worth watching and I heard there going to make a third one.
It's a beautiful and touching movie but don't expect any of your questions to be answered because (*spoiler alert*) they won't
@cint29 search Noriko no shokutaku on stagevu or let me watch this,it doesnt come up if you put the english title,it has subtitles though :)
I liked this film's approach on the generation gap and I sympathised with Tetsuzo's character, but the pacing was the real horror in this film. They could have cut some unnecessary scenes and sped up others to make at least a 2-hour movie

this movie is so good. it's amazing. i want more movie like this.. Suicide club wasn't as good as this.
@purefault i will look forward to his new masterpiece...
but it appears as the first name of a main character in suicide club ,Noriko's dinner table and for a completely different significant character in the manga isn't that a bit of a coincidence i thought maybe it was deliberate?
Is that those girls in suicide club
What's the song in the background?
Okay, I know this is a pain, but I found out about the original 'Suicide Club' Film about two years ago, and I watched this too, and i still don't get it.

@kyla1ful its a sequel for suicide circle.. tells a story of 1 of the victims that died during the train incident..(i think)
@eknick

can anyone tell me the name of the music start from 0:42
What's the name of the theme song?
So intoxicating....
what's the song at 0:45 ??
thanks !
to tell you the truth this is true to life there in japan. most suicide deaths are students. especially school girls.
you guys are all wrong. it's a prequel! well, i guess blindprophet was right.
@yungsoo It's the theme song.

@purefault
That would be "Love Exposure". Last time I checked (Dec. 2010) the entire 4 hours of it was on youtube
so noriko is The Bat?
Is this movie is the same as Suicide Cirlcle the weird movie?????? or diffirent?????
im going to watch this because i just watched suicide club last night and this is the third time i watched it and i still dont get it or anything about that "connection" thing someone plz explain this to me
That scene is from suicide club.
This is in essence second part of suicide club/circle
1st suicide club now this im lovin the continuation.
(spellcheck)
I'll probably watch it.. Got Chopin on the trailer, 54 hot Japanese girls, deals with suicide.. perfect!
i think this is not a horror film. this is more of a disturbing mystery film.. Hard to understand though because Japanese have different culture
Here is the ost for those who search it:
/watch?v=fsk7ZC0qy7U
is it better than suicide club? lol i hope so

classic
@MultiLovinglife Your opinion but the irony is hilarious
Такая спокойная музыка))
@MultiLovinglife hollywood horror is... well bad, azn horror is more disturbing than scary imo
I don't get this movie.
@ForeverTomie

I love dark water too. I love Japanese horror movies, there are some real good Korean horror movies as well :)

I almost fell asleep when I was watching this film.
i really wanted to like this film... but i didn't, character development were shallow, uninteresting, it almost feels as if the director is trying too hard to make this film "off beat"... very disappointing.
yep....brilliant film; so unexpectedly brilliant. amazing breakdown of the family.....capable of bringing tears to a non-homo male.
what is it with all those high profile japanese horror movies apparently being shot on video lately?
i don't like it... not one bit :(
@plus18ification ok.
