Hola Tony! I arrived in Madrid on Tuesday, 21/03/23 and I have visited all of the Tapas spots from your video. I Loved all but one of these spots. Thank you so much for helping me plan my trip to Madrid. Muchas gracias.
Hola, it was El Anciano Rey de Los Vino. But I do not wish to discourage anyone from visiting this restaurant, as it is beautiful inside and their experience may be much better than my experience.
@@theomack4061 thank you, Theo, we've always had positive experiences there, but even the best of bars or restaurants can have a bad day. Hope it was that, a bad day on their side rather than a fall in the quality of the service provided.
Hi Tony, mabuhay! Thanks for your videos. Hope to check it out this May 2024. I'm wondering if I can order in English in tapas bar or I need to write a translator?
Thank you very much for your kind words. We are not big fans of drama, our priority here is communicating useful information. And yes, you're absolutely right, a typical mistake by foreigners is to order a huge amount food at the same time. Kind regards!
Bull tail was the cheapest meat available and often given to peasants after a bull fight, now the most expensive cut of meat, fantastic video as usual, muchas gracias Tony.
I used to visit Madrid nearly fifty years ago and absolutely loved it, especially the food. Thank you for bringing back some fond memories. I love your channel and your method of presentation.
Gracia's Tony, enjoyed your tour. Have had a few of those tapas in past Madrid visits but not at the places you featured. Maybe this year we shall visit Madrid again In August and will enjoy those featured tapas bars.
We just remembered that a few of the places on the video might be closed for the annual holidays during the month of August. But most of them should remain opened.
My husband and I have been watching your videos all morning! Great presentation and we appreciate your precision in showing maps and actual names and current prices. (We know € might change) We will visit Spain in January and have 3-4 days each in Madrid, Granada, Sevilla & Valencia. Hope you will also cover Valencia and more information about Sevilla and Granada. I have saved your tapas tour to google maps - our hotel is near the Prado so they have ideal locations for us. Thank you for the great videos!
Thank you, Katherine. Granada, Seville and Valencia are priorities for us (as well as Toledo), we have videos dedicated to them on our Spanish-language channel but due to lack of time we haven't been able to record them in English yet. All the best!
Thank you for this video, Tony! As I'm going in Madrid for a week soon I would love more videos of menu del dia and tapas (have already watched your older ones and taken notes to visit them)! I appreciate your care to suggest affordable and of a good quality food places!
Thanks, Rose. It takes many months to produce a video like the one here (we don't live in Madrid so we have to go there and schedule the recordings). For the time being we are not planning new videos on the topic, will be a while till we produce a new one. All the best!
Excellent video. I discovered you on the video about how to connect between the different terminals in MAD. That was so good that I have visited your website and your RUclips videos. Too bad we only have 2 days in Madrid. On our next trip we will contact your agency. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Another enjoyable video, Tony !!! 👍 Eating at Tapas is an experience, and I agree it’s pricey, specially when you get carried away with your orders!!! Lol 😂 You really make good visuals, specially in showing directions. 👍 👍 👍 Thanks Tony for sharing another exquisite video !!! 👌
You make great honest videos, so informative, with the maps included. Even giving help on leaving airports. You are the best of all the videos, and there are a bunch of vain, stupid videos out there. You should do tours your a natural. Just want to thank you for your help on my trip coming up at the end of September.
I have just recently come across your channel and am enjoying it immensely. Thank you for taking the time to present maps of the places you visit, a very helpful detail. You mentioned in this video that Madrid style patatas bravas are not your favorite. I am curious about regional variations on this popular dish. Do you have another video where you explain in more detail or can you offer a quick description? Thank you for your work on this channel. It is a gem.
Many thanks for your kind words, Robin, and be very welcome to the channel. Our wish list has a video on patatas bravas, but I'm afraid it will take a while before we record it. In other parts of Spain, one of the main ingredientes of the sauce is mayonnaise, which gives a completely different taste to patatas bravas. You can see the look here: instagram.com/p/CbdIEAUoigN/ (it's a photo of ours at Senyor Vermut in Barcelona, one of our all-time favorite patatas bravas). All the best!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you for your reply. I look forward to the eventual Patatas video. But in the mean time, I will enjoy all the others you have created. 😊
I'm very excited I found this video with tapas recommendations! I will be visiting Madrid from USA next month. Is it more typical for locals to do tapas in mid-day? Or as a dinner-time or late night event?
Hello Jason, we have a video where we answer most questions about the tapas culture, including the issue of when we eat tapas, check it out here: ruclips.net/video/AddLmFJXKTA/видео.html
Hi Tony thanks for all your videos very easy to understand. I do have a question. We are a group of 4 people but my mom and dad they don’t drink beer or alcohol. So is it ok we only order tapas dish with 2 drinks and they will drink their own bottle mineral water? Thanks
Hello, they can order water, no problem at all, we talk about it on your video about the whole culture of tapas: ruclips.net/video/AddLmFJXKTA/видео.html You don't bring your own food or drink to a bar, the waiters will get quite upset.
@@alastairjohnson4038 a piece of legislation approved recently makes it compulsory for restaurants to serve tap water for free -on request. It wasn't the case when this video was recorded.
If I can’t drink much (even water), Can I just order the tapas then? Also, could you please do one video about public washrooms in general (in Canada, it’s not an issue because we can always use the washrooms at coffee shops, fast food restaurants, department stores, etc without having to buy anything). Thanks
Have a look at this video ruclips.net/video/AddLmFJXKTA/видео.html where, among other things, we clarify the issue of drinks to be had along tapas. We might do a future video on washrooms, but there is quite a lot of research we need to do first.
Thanks, Tony, for your very informative & relevant videos. We enjoy them a lot. We are visiting Spain in 2 weeks time. Do all retail and food establishments accept credit card payment? any minimum spend before accepting cards? We like to minimise carrying cash. Thanks in advance
Hi Derrick, the vast majority of bars, shops and restaurants accept credit cards, but as there is no obligation by law to do so, you might very occasionally find the one that does not accept those payments. All the best!
Lots of walking between tapas stops to burn the calories! We are staying in your Hostal Orientale. Are there any recommended tapas bars we should try near there? Muchas gracias por su ayuda and videos excellente!
Thank you for another fantastic video and recommendations! I'm genuinely curious about the lack of vegetables (besides potato, padron peppers) on the tapas menu. I watched a few videos about planning Camino de Santiago, and noticed the same theme - the lack of vegetables on the pilgrim menus. In fact, one of them jokingly said, if you spot a salad on the menu ...grab it! Would love to hear a Spanish person's take on this topic. P. S. I'm not vegetarian/vegan.
Thank you, you touch on a sore point indeed. Although there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan restaurants everywhere in Madrid -some of them are really good-, vegetarians need to be extra careful when ordering their tapas. But most "menús del día" always feature a salad which, in a perverse way, might not be strictly vegetarian. Oh, well, that's Spain for you!
I'm not a big beer drinker, but my husband is. Do you recommend any other drink that is common? would the tinto de verano be good to order at these tapas places? I also can't drink too much. What is a good non-alcoholic alternative, besides water? Thank you.
Wine or tinto de verano are very common orders. "Clara", which is shandy, is also common. Non-alcoholic alternatives are not that great, you can have zero-alcohol beer or a "mosto", which is grape juice.
Aquí somos Montesol a muerte. Y sí, ¿calamares a palo seco? ¿Y ese es su bocata icónico?
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal jejejje... :D Salud!
