    What's crazy was I never played this in 2001 yet the music took me back. Also the greatest part of this game is any quest item you gave to a NPC you can take it back by beating them down (killing them as well) and anything you stole from the merchants you could take THEIR ACTUAL ENTIRE STOCK that they were selling. It was so real to me I loved that part

    I find the term Eurojank rather quaint coming from a culture that nowadays mostly produces digital slot machines pretending to be games. I was one of those growing up with Gothic and it spoiled gaming for me by setting unbeatable standards that no other game was ever able to meet. The combat system is indeed great, although I get why people get frustrated by it.. you have to know the enemy before engaging, predicting attacks is the only way to defeat any foe at level 1 with a stick.. but that doesn't mean you can't put learning points into strength and get a better weapon to make the fights fair.
    Also, the fact that enemies don't just wait their turn to attack you but beat you to a pulp when you're surrounded makes gameplay much more realistic and rewarding. I've been playing this game for almost 23 years now and I still have to find a decent combat system like Gothic's.

    • @ArhonOkvals
      @ArhonOkvals  2 месяца назад +1

      Gothic was one of the first games that required actual thought be put into combat and not just facerolling the keyboard to win.
      I see the same fate has befallen other games with great combat systems like KDC and Witcher 3.
      A lot of people just don't want to put in the effort to learn...

      @@ArhonOkvals it's because gaming is now considered something for everyone, even your grandma, but she has no time to learn all that difficult stuff, she wants to have fun, and I think it's fair.. luckily we still have these old games to play.
      Same goes for the FPS genre.. I still have to find a game that has a really high skill ceiling like Quake.. games are now much simpler.

    I love the fact that despise being over two decades old, Gothic was created with such high quality elements for gameplay and story (and even the graphics, with its 00s limitation)that it keeps people amazed in how a well made something can be when its made by people who give their best.

  • @AlexAegisOfficial
    @AlexAegisOfficial 7 месяцев назад +1

    As much as I love Gothic, it was in Risen 1 where I realised how bad is the idea that the weapon animation changes with skill. By the time you get used to fighting with an animation set, by learning, you can lock yourself out of it entirely, and it's not always better. Risen realized this but still failed, it improved on the formula by unlocking new moves rather than replacing them, but still locked you into a new fixed combo sequence. I think ideally the player should be able to fight the way they did when they started the game, and all the new tools should be optional. A great example of this is Sekiro.

    • @AlexAegisOfficial
      @AlexAegisOfficial 7 месяцев назад +1

      A great immersive tool however was that the trainers explained how each new skill should be executed. I still remember being a kid, trying to sneak around the house based on what Cavalorn had told me

    • @ArhonOkvals
      @ArhonOkvals  7 месяцев назад +3

      I totally understand where you are coming from; it doesn't feel great if you feel locked out of a certain playstyle after several dozen hours invested. My point is that I hate it when people call it a shitty combat system, as opposed to what? The auto-attack galore of nearly all the games at the time. Even to this day, I'd much prefer a changed animation to +3% damage to attacks or some weird glowing effect. I find that I generally still enjoy the G1 and G2 combat, and it does still feel impactful because I learn rather than just unlock.
