I bought my first Gibson J45 around 1974 and the following night I was playing with John Hanlon at a folk venue in Princes Street, Edinburgh. Hamish was the main turn and he said his guitar was in desperate need of strings or something like that and 'could he borrow my Gibson?'. Well I couldn't say no and I always enjoyed his music but he gave it a right good hard play and I was sitting there hoping he didn't damage it. It was just odd that I hadn't even had a proper chance to play it myself and it felt so precious. Thankfully no harm was done but I was sweating for a while. Hamish was great of course.
I knew him and Archie from Hyndland School . He lived in Broomhill and there was a great music vibe around the school and he encouraged so many of us to get involved along with Janey and Norman Buchan who lived in Partick hill Road . There were some great sessions there . Hamish was a kind gentle guy and had time for all of us younger aspirants . I met him later in Aberdeen at a gig he was doing and he asked me to play Mcphersons Rant with him at Aberdeen Teachers Training Union . What fantastic memories .
Klasse.

So glad this whole concert's up. I love watching Hamish play and smile and laugh. Seemed like such a genuine soul!
Saw Hamish quite a few times live in the 1960's. Always brilliant! One of Scotland's best ever entertainers!
So sweet person, may he rest in peace.

Black is the Colour at 20 minutes in is magnificent.
Such a natural performer, bless ya for uploading
I can't thank you enough for putting this up, got tears in my eyes
He had a way of seamlessly telling the story of his songs, and being so composed. This is such an impressive performance, I come back to it often
An absolute legend we can never forget this pure talent
He was the first live performer I ever saw. That was around 1967, on a Clyde steamer going to Dunoon and back.

Thank you so much for uploading this! I wish I had been there. You’re a star for adding this x
OH I MISSED THIS VERSION OF RAMENSKY SO MUCH, THANK YOU!
Danke für das Hochladen 👍
once had to stuff hamish into a ford anglia from the pasley folk club to the para handy in greenock.
Long time ago think??? In Fife somewhere. Great night he fell off the stool, got up on stool and carried on , brilliant.😅
Danke fürs teilen.
Hamish hätte wirklich gerne mal live erlebt

Ditto =) Folksänger dieser Güteklasse gibt es praktisch nicht mehr, mich beeindruckt vor Allem wie präzise er singt und die Töne trifft.
Thank you for this!!
+1 these clips uses to be on youtube but got deleted some years ago
Anyone know where this was filmed? I've got a feeling it was the Sari Head on the Gallowgate, could someone confirm?
Only Luke Kelly could match Hamish singing Parcel of Rogues
