    I'm going to have to get this model! I did a review on the collecta Quetzalcoatlus, while I like the posture and proportions I wasn't a fan of the colour scheme. This GR toys version has really outdone itself and the coloration looks very convincing.

      You are defnitely not going to regret it, especially when you have it in hand next to the CollectA. The complexities in the paint application is just out of this world compared to the CollectA. Very realistic and updated look.

    Really nice this Quetzalcoatlus from Gr Toys, I really like the coloration and the details.
    I have recently purchased the resin version of M-See Quetzalcoatlus, I gues always of the same scale and I must say that it looks really good next to my Sideshow Tupuxuara.
    I would love it if PNSO made some kind of pterosaur in the future.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад

      I don't have any doubt PNSO will turn its attention to a pterosaur or two in the near future. There are plenty of 'glaring' holes, until you realise that there is really a huge array of fauna to choose from and PNSO is already offering something every two weeks or so. I'm also sure that some of the usual suspects, like the Dromaeosaurinae, plesiosaurs and such, are going to be extra special releases that PNSO won't want to release until they have them near perfect 😊
      I was tempted to get the M'See, but just couldn't justify spending that when I could buy a few PNSOs with that instead. It's an impressive statue of course! 👍Especially if you got yours with the base.

    I have this figure too, and I like it a lot. I did a customization on mine, with a little dark wash, to look more like the original resin figure.
    I thought it improved a lot.

      I have no doubt that customization always makes something look better 😁 You are getting something exactly the way you want it, not to mention something unique no one else will have. I did think of the original resin but sadly decided to pass to conserve the funds for more dinosaurs 😊

    I come from a primarily wargaming hobby background with miniatures and painting, and models like these would be so fun to paint. 40k hashtags on Instagram will show how intensely fans paint their models. I would love to see very highly produced and accurate prehistoric models painting at that personal a level! Love your channel and am now seriously interested in unpainted prehistoric beasties

      Thank you! Unfortunately I can't paint to save my life. Would have definitely saved tonnes of money by now, and also featured some of my work on the channel! It's one of those childhood things man people were doing, building up kits and such, that I regret never being into.

    Love this one! I’m also a big azhdarchidae fan! And I didn’t know this was out. I am however, curious to know how you think this compares to the Papo version (which I do have)? Thanks again for another very informative review.

      @Michael Kawano Unfortunately I don't have the Papo, whose works I'm generally not a fan as I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear! Looking at online images though, I like that it's in a walking pose, something so peculiar and not depicted enough. Nice detailing as expected from Papo, including those filaments, though the texture of the wing membrane looks a little rough. The colour looks nice but not as well blended and complex in terms of layering and translucency.
      Then again Papo's fault has not been sculpted detail or paint (although fall-off from release images are egregious). It's the accuracy. Unfortunately I don't know enough about pterosaurs to say anything definitive, but here at least it looks good to me judging from the online photos I've seen.
      Overall I like that this conveys the kind of creepy feeling I imagine I'd get were I to see it walking, and in fact the same feeling I get when I see bats on the ground doing the same. A mix of feeling queasy, yet sickly fascinates at the same time. A new departure from the limited old flying poses. The only reason I haven't got it is the huge size. I don't like it and pterosaurs enough to give up that much space I would be using for dinosaurs 😊

Thank you for the detailed response and thoughts on this figure. I agree that it really does seem to be a good representation, and in my opinion one of Papo’s best offerings. I’ve always liked my copy and really should take time to research its accuracy more myself.

    Such a wonderful figure and I'm in love. And there are some amazing flying reptile figures that you might find interesting. I'm sure you know them all but what do you think about Caiuajara, Caviramus, Dimorphodon, Guidraco, Pteranodon sternbergi, and Tupuxuara figures? I personally love them all. (I don't have any btw) and all those figures are quite big too except Tupuxuara. With those figures, I'm sure you can fill one part of your cabinet my dear sir 😉 For me I still think this figure is a bit expensive. But I'm happy for your first pterosaur figure my dear sir. Thank you for this amazing review as always ❤

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад +1

      Thank you Rajitha! This was a review I was happy to do since I actually don't have any more pterosaurs. None was in a pose that I liked, or most were in wing spread mode while in flight, which looked bad resting with their bellies on the shelf. So I donated all of them to children. They also tend to be big, which is ok if you have the detail, but if not then I would prefer them smaller.
      The other challenge is that no model I can recall were able to capture the fineness of detail and paint apps I feel this awesome animals deserve. Still there are some I do like.
      The Safari Ltd Pteranodon is beautiful. The CollectA Pteranodon sternbergi looks off to me for some reason I can't place at the moment. The CollectA Caiuajara is too disappointly painted for me. Same for the Dimorphodon. Looks good, painted awful. Same for Guidraco. In fact I think the Supreme class pterosaurs are way too big for my liking, especially as on that larger canvas they don't have a paint application worthy of it. So the whole thing looks to me like toys or soft toys.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад

      I can understand people saying they wished it wasn't included, and the price would cheaper. I'm still not sure if GR Toys actually gave this away for free or minimal additional amount. We'll only know when their subsequent runs without the unpainted ones come out, and check the price on that.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад

      Wow I've not really made a study of pterosaurs as such and am not as confident as I am with dinosaurs. I would say that the head is a little too small (or conversely the body is a little too large) but generally the proportions are okay. I forgot to mention since I usually don't look at supplementary cards, by the information card has an illustration based on a David Peters reconstruction, which is completely inaccurate by current standards. So that illustration is wrong.

    The Quetzal is pretty and I like the colours and paint job. The PNSO giraffe though... I'm not impressed. The spots look like they used a stamp on it for the spots and looks a lot less pretty than the box art.. Shame because I wanted it for how pretty it looked on the box :(

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад +1

      I agree. I have to say I was disappointed, because I bought it mainly from the release images, and the spots are nowhere as bright, with the browns a lot less cheery. I actually will be ordering the CollectA Giraffe. Hope that it will be better. Do you have any other suggestions for a good one?

    • @horse14t
      @horse14t 2 года назад

      @@DinosDragons I spent about an hour looking for a figure that was taller than 7 inches... I wanted one roughly 1:20 scale (8-10 inches) and I finally found one!
      The Safari Wildlife Wonders Reticulated Giraffe. It stands at 9 inches tall and looks good from what I can tell. The promo images make the front legs look far apart but from what few images I could find of one in hand the posture looked much better. I do like the CollectA's more complex paint job though. Just wish it was a tad bigger :(

      @DinosDragons  2 года назад +1

      @@horse14t Thanks I'm definitely going to check it out! While I'd love a 1:35 to scale with my dinosaurs, I'm also happy to get an extant 1:20 mammal for comparison with my prehistoric fauna, many which are or try to be 1:20. 😁

    Do you have any honest opinions on the Papo model? I'm sure that there are definitely marks against it in regards to taking artistic license as opposed to scientific accuracy, but is it particularly egregious or is it somewhat reasonable? Of course if it's not 1/35, it wouldn't fit into my collection anyways

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад

      Good day Grant, I'm afraid I have no clue about that model, only from what I've seen in pictures. as with most of Papo's work, the detail looks good, for example the texture of the wings and the pycnofibres of the body, the colouring quite well done, and I like the creeping pose which is very unusual. It's been a long time since I read a study on proposed walking mechanisms as well as joint ranges of motion, so I can't comment intelligently about that.
      The only thing 'against' it that I can recall offhand is that it was way too big for me to invest shelf space for it. Something like 1:25 or 1:27 IIRC when I was deciding to get it or not.

    • @yuyaricachimuel555
      @yuyaricachimuel555 2 года назад

      Papo’s artistic license is intentional for their models.
