I remember avshalom singing this back in the mid 80’s back in LA while he still lived there. Such a beautiful song. I’ve been searching for it for a while.
This was My fathers favorite song, so my mom walked down to it. His eyes were closed and he was shuckeling back in forth in tefilla. Finally after a minute he opens his eyes, expecting to see my mother in her white dress. Instead he sees avshalom katz walking down the aisle. My mom surprised my father by flying avshalom in for the wedding!
Avshalom sang this as my wife walked down the aisle to our Chuppah....WOW! Memories. Still an amazing song. Kol HaKavod to you and your dad....love this!
This is so special !! Takes us back to the birth of our friendship with Sharon and Avshalom - very special . May you all go ❤ Nini and Steve
Read about this in Mishpacha magazine and couldn't wait to listen. Avshalom was our most beloved music teacher in Hillel and chazan at BJ Beverly Hills. Sooo love this new rendition! (From Jennifer Slavin)
“Remember the Torah of Moshe my servant, which I enjoined on him at Horev, laws and rulings for all Isra’el. Look, I will send to you Eliyahu the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible Day of Adonai. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to their fathers; otherwise I will come and strike the land with complete destruction.” Malachi 3:22-24
That was not a translation! Accurate translation, g-d is talking to the Jewish nation. " Like a rose/lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters. Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the sons." It is an expression of love, therefore a popular wedding song.
This tune was popularized by the Goldschmidt brothers, Yitzchak, Yossi, and Boaz, who together comprised Kol Achai. Their version, which includes a short chromatic/atonal passage at the end, was covered by one of the earliest iterations of Jewish a capella group Pizmon (and its spin-off, Neranena). But the original tune was written by R' Avshalom Katz.
