I’m a Computer Science Undergraduate who recently got into blender. I realize now that the reason it’s so alluring (apart from it being super fun, of course), is that the painstaking hardwork required to make something like this is hidden by its novelty, in the same way CS looked cool when I didn’t know how hard it can be sometimes. This video reminded me that, yes, you can do some insanely cool things in 3D, and I’ve always been enthralled by the idea of creating your own world, but it’ll never happen until I accept how hard it can be, how it will never be just rainbows and butterflies. All this requires perseverance, even in times you don’t feel like doing what you love. Short videos like this is cool though, it isn’t meant to trick you into thinking all that can be done in a few minutes, it’s the ultimate showcase of what can be done if you pour your heart into it, and it is so damn motivating. I guess what I wanted to say is that let the beauty of any craft motivate you, and let the reality of its hardships strengthen you.
CS and 3D both become a lot easier when you stop trying to solve problems yourself and realize most problems you're likely to face are already solved and you just need to research those solutions and them implement them with whatever tweaks are appropriate for your particular situation. As a student, you haven't been exposed to a lot of those solutions yet, and you haven't got the experience in searching for answers, but it's worth remembering that you don't need to reinvent the wheel, just stand on the shoulders of giants. Good luck with it, and do yourself a favor and take some hardware classes too. Electrical engineering, computer engineering, and work hard in your math classes too. Software is cool and all, but the future is in doing things in the real world with code as just a tool.
If something really specific seems too tedious it probably means you should start researching for a better solution. This generation doesn’t have to read an entire manual anymore (but probably should) they can just go to RUclips. I’m sure we all feel fortunate for having such media outlets & all these channels that will actually teach us some thing. So many options out there.
I miss back in the days when I had your creativity... Sadly decades of big corpo work in the software industry slammed the breaks on that and eventually my train stopped. Even the videos you classify as "not interesting enough" are really making my day - and for a split second consuming your creativity and remembering what it was like to actually make all your ideas?! I'm so looking forward to the first finished episode because it looks fantastic!!! I hope you (and everyone out there) have an awesome and creative day! :)
3:39 I love doing these scenes myself because they give depth to an open scene. It also reminds me of the countless images I saw on the internet with crowds of people walking to their destination (i.e; NY streets). I've said it before and I'll say it again. Ian needs to start a school. I'm actually gonna ask, just in case anyone is reading this: Where _do_ you go to school for this kind of thing? I've looked through a lot of options, but Ians videos here are more informative than most of them. Most of them seem like they just teach you how to make a donut in 10 months and then boot you out

Even so the music at the end was quite a masterpiece I also can't get the first song out of my head :o I know he linked the website of Wilbert Roget II in the description but I just can't find the exact song he used :/ If any of you knows the name I would really appreciate it!
I'm guessing Roget composed it specifically for this video, since that's what he does. Apparently he has a workflow where he takes old tracks and remixes them into new songs. The closest I could find was soundcloud.com/wilbert-roget/vacay-in-la which at least has a guitar, there are some vague similarities.
This video makes me sad. I see all the bits, but there is just some secret sauce that makes it all come together in front of my eyes BUT I DO NOT SEE IT! But at the same time I love every bit of it.
Well... This is awkward. This video came up in my recommended videos on the sidebar of a video I just watched. Then I saw my comment from 1 year ago, yet here I still am. Thanks for the likes I guess!

All of your videos are worth putting on youtube!!! I love your content and it makes me so excited to see the bite sized videos and pieces of knowledge that make it all seem so easy. I makes me more excited to keep improving, actually! So please, don't be afraid to dump more of these, at any time!
This is the 2nd double upload so far... The blender community is ascending
3:00 Ah yes, the sequel to the Moths tutorial: how to animate government drones
dude, if you look up the word “wizard” in the dictionary , there should be a link to your channel!
I second that.
I third that.
I fourth that
I fifth that
I sixth that
Gosh, that second music clip is perfect.
This literally inspires us who wants to dig in deeper into blender. This is beyond coolness.!
You have a productive quarantine with the cost of forgetting how to talk to people. Damn...
Also those waterfall tricks lookin neat!
The music was genuinly amazing
And funny
The sad thing is that he will get too busy with "real stuff" after Hollywood discovers him. :(
Dedicate your Oscar to us subs, please! :D
Hollywood already knows.
have you seen ponysmasher?
I think you should take a look at his imdb page
Man, there are a whole lot of celebrities and huge personalities but the quality and personality as an Artist or simply a person you have, You are a Legend. The thoughts and creativity you have is a gift but not just a gift, A gift which has been furnished further more with hard work and dedication.
I truly admire you Ian, you are a very huge boost in motivation.
I don't comment a lot because I have to say a lot in a comment to describe the feelings about how your videos change the day of a person, like me. Keep up the good work man, May God shower you with his guidance towards the right path.
And in the last I apologize if I said anything wrong as english is not my first language.
Your work is really astonishing, thanku for showing us what is possible!
im a grown adult crying like a baby over a f** RUclips cg not even tutorial
fucking love it
Even so the music at the end was quite a masterpiece I also can't get the first song out of my head :o
I know he linked the website of Wilbert Roget II in the description but I just can't find the exact song he used :/
If any of you knows the name I would really appreciate it!
@@mathnerd314159265 Thanks so much!
I was searching for a comment like yours hoping someone posted the song name xd
I want it but i cant find it lol
This video makes me sad. I see all the bits, but there is just some secret sauce that makes it all come together in front of my eyes BUT I DO NOT SEE IT! But at the same time I love every bit of it.
all of your work is insane. and both songs went incredibly hard
Thank you IanHubert for so much inspiration .
Alternative title: "What you can achieve if you don't waste your life away watching video after video on RUclips"
I'm impressed, and also depressed :D
#relatable
Well... This is awkward. This video came up in my recommended videos on the sidebar of a video I just watched. Then I saw my comment from 1 year ago, yet here I still am. Thanks for the likes I guess!
If you listen closely, you can hear thousands of GPUs melting.....
ian: im working on dynamo dream

I watch your videos just to hear you talk. Thanks for sharing your style and attitude
You might not have thought it was worth the upload but it was definitely worth the watch.
God Damn.
He's the first one who received my "All Notification 🔔 "
You deserve an Oscar award
"I hope you were tickled"
Well... That rendered some scenes that I had archived, a long time ago. :\
so, when is "oh no, we ran out of audio" dropping on spotify?
Ever since your talk at Blender, I can't help but keep coming to your channel every now and then, something about CGI had always amazed me. Nowadays I've started to develop a game on my own, I've used some of the lazy tutorials to do things here and there, I know this is kind of long but I just wanted to say, thank you for all the knowledge you spread and thanks for all the laughs you took out of me in desperate times when you don't really know how to do something in a software.
My quarentines going as well as any quarentine, Theese works are amazing and you've inspired me with blender so much more
Anybody else enjoy his singing
Ian: Creates a pretty much photorealistic cyborg stir-fry arm moving physically correct.
Also Ian: Is this really worth uploading? Idk man..
WTF.
Hyped to see the first episode of dynamo dream! :)
I like big piles thank you
The waterfall thing ticked me 😀. Way cheaper than a sim... way... cheaper... and faster...
I’ll never not watch your stuff when it pops into my feed. Always a treat.
