  • Heya Duck in today’s video we are looking at a set of nails I did seven weeks ago on Andrea and how well they have kept.
Andreas' nails grow pretty slowly compared to most so for me this would be the equivalent of 3 to 4 weeks of growth but these ones have been on for seven weeks and they are still in really good shape, and there are a few reasons why they have kept so well so let's get into why that is.
The first reason is the Prep, when I was prepping these nails I etched the nail with a 240 grit file and made sure there were no areas that were missed, I also pushed back the cuticles and made sure to remove any non-living tissue from the cuticle area, non-living tissue scrapes straight off the natural nail and if you bang your product straight over it that's a point of weakness under the nail, then we have the dehydration of the nail, nails produce natural oils just like skin and that needs to be cleaned away with a dehydrator and remember dehydration only lasts for about ten minutes so do that just before you apply your primer and there are two different types of primer acid and acid-free the acid primer is only recommended for clients who struggle with lifting, the acid-free is recommended for most clients as its more gentle product. Additionally, when you apply the product to the nail the finger is facing down this will help the product move away from the cuticle and prevent creating a step in the product which can catch through day-to-day wear and cause lifting.
So there are a few tips to help you create nails that will last until your client is due back at your table and that's it! I hope you enjoyed the video and I’ll catch you in the next one! T’Rah Duck!

Prep is the biggest part but I gotta say that the client is a big factor as well! The less their nails are in water (especially for an extended time), the less they bang them around accidentally, lack of using them as tools, etc.

Hiya Duck! I have a stonking allergy to gel. Would I have to same issue with acrylic? I am wondering what happens when the technician pats the product in place and the brush touches my skin. Thanks!

If you ever want to come to the US, you need to visit Oregon. When you do, you need to make a deal with my friend (who owns an LGBTQIA+ goth pub (English style). You could do all the nails for a/the drag queen/s for a special event! I think you’d get a kick out of Eugene.

What should the thickness measurements be at the tip vs the area closest to the center that you can measure? Anyone know?

Hey there, I am in Australia, and dying to try the acrylic range, but I can't get the liquid here. Can you recommend a monomer I can use with your acrylic powders? I'm praying for your liquids to be available here soon, because I really want to transition to KM exclusively, but in the interim, I would love to play around with the products I can get now. X

I find Kirstys products to be extremely reliable and very rarely have lifting issues ❤ one problem i do have though is as my nails grow out sometimes they seem to 'curl' away from the acrylic from underneath....any ideas on how to stop this happening??

You can’t stop the natural nail growth.🙂 Some have nails that grow down, some up, some straight , some will even curl like yours after some time, or grow crooked etc etc. That’s why we techs cut down the length as much as possible so we can control the way the extension is built out, and the nails looks like they all grow straight and perfect. And after so so many appointments, we have to do it again.. because if not, the nails will start to detach in the part of the natural nail grow a different way than the extension is built out. However, it will help if you are good at hydration. cuticle oil every day, because it will keep your nails more flexible and they can hold on to the extension for longer. And dry nails actually shrink and curl , so to be good at using oil every day will help a lot. But, in the end, the nails that grow like this have to be cut back and start over again. You probably can get away with using a under-nail bit etc to file away the parts that has detached from the extension, and maybe earn an extra appointment or two before you really ‘have to’ start over. But usually that is not a good solution in the long run. 🙂 Hope this helps a bit. And one more thing, if you have a bit flat nails, not a lot of natural curve, it will help you to get a good pinch in the extension too, because it force the nails to grow out more straight because of the extra curve, plus it makes a lot stronger extension. Kind of like a bridge 🙂 that will give some extra time for some nails before they start curving away from the extension. 🙂
