Great series on the T1! The electrics are specifically neatly done! Thanks for documenting your project. Now that we a re year into this, perhaps you could do a review video with what works well and what might need a little update in the van build?
Good idea, I have plans to do that :)
Every bit of it is so well done. The attention to details is highly impressive. That includes the excellent photography and the beautiful garden flowers 😀
Thank you so much, Ben! :)
I expect that the solar panels being flush with the surface of the profile should reduce the air turbulence resulting from the addition of the solar components, and help reduce drag a little. Anything that helps reduce fuel consumption is brilliant in my opinion. Great job sir.
what a fantastic series, thank you, Mike!
another great informative video. well done
Thank you very much! Now it's time to hit the road finally ;)
@@CubeofCars hopefully somewhere nice. enjoy
very much enjoying your Merc T1 channel thank you!
I have not yet managed to find my ideal T1 but will continue to search :(
(there are one or two for sale at the moment but only with the standard low roof...meantime I will keep searching and watching your progress!))
Good luck finding a nice T1. I also had to search long time before finding mine!
hallo aus frankreich 😍😍😍👍
Liebe Grüße zurück nach Frankreich! :)
We are waiting for a new episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Benz currently still is in winter storage... but new episodes will come ;)
Excellent video again! Where did you mount the 230V shore plug? Somewhere under the vehicle?
I didn't want to cut a hole in the side of the van, so I mounted it under the existing tread at the back of the van. I think I have never showed it in any video in detail, but in this video about my heater you can see it:

Hi
Like your channel, lots of great info!
Did you research the engine ( m102.924?)? I’m trying to find some good info, but it’s not easy. I guess an average mileage of 13 l with full conversion and mixed terrain sounds right? Rebuild after 250000 maybe?
I have the opportunity to buy the same type of van.
No problems with the carburettor or rubber seals that are old?
@@luuuuuudoooooo Hi! We travelled 6000 km to Greece and back and achieved an average of 13,5 l which is ok, especially because we crossed a lot of mountains as well. With 80kmh on the motorway we get below 12 l. 250000km before rebuild should easily be possible, but there will surely be some repairs from time to time...
@@CubeofCars thanks, looks promising! Keep the videos coming, you’re doing a great job!
Hello Mike, my compliments on the great van build! I see you “ground” the MPPT on the minus distribution block. Is this distribution block itself then “grounded” on the chassis of the van? I don’t see that in your wiring diagram.
Yes, it is. It's not in the diagram because the minus distribution block is just connected with the minus of the engine's battery. But this battery minus is connected with the chassis as standard Mercedes layout.
@@CubeofCars Thanks for the quick Reply! I understand. Otherwise the (non-isolated) Orion probably would'nt work either. I also see a (yellow/green) earth cable going to the minus distribution block. Is this from the 230v and/or Multiplus? Shouldn't that be a seperate 230v ground point on the chassis, seperate from the 12v chassis ground point?
@@frisovdm6132 That's ground for the 230V FI/LS circuit breaker. I haven't included details of the 230V system in the video, because it's a job for professionals. So I don't wanna give any recommendations how to wire the 230V system :)
@@CubeofCars Hi Mike, thank you. Of course I understand.
Hi, I came across your videos and channel yesterday and watched every one of your videos regarding your T1 build. Me and my partner are looking to do something similar eventually, hopefully with the same van, as we have fallen in love with the T1.However, there are not many (if any) in the UK, so we would likely have to get a van from Germany or somewhere else and drive it back. Why are they so expensive? They seem to range from about 10,000- 20,000 for a good one with low mileage and high roof.
We have no experience doing any of this type of work, be it woodworking, electronics or anything that you have done so far in this build. Do you think even considering this, it is possible for two complete beginners to create something as beautiful as you guys have?
Also I am very tall, around 2 meters, do you think this van and following your build would be adequate or would you suggest a higher van?
Thank you for the inspiration and great videos!!!
Tom
Hi Tom,
There are not many T1 high roof left and they are a perfect base for a DIY camper and everyone knows that unfortunately, so they are really expensive nowadays.
But I wouldn't consider a high roof T1 when being 2 meters tall. This van is not high enough for you to enjoy. If you want to have a T1, try and find one of the plastic roof Westfalia T1. Or buy a cheaper (but good condition) low roof T1 plus a second hand Westfalia roof (sometimes offered on Ebay or ebay Kleinanzeigen)... but installation of this roof is probably a job for a professional company, though not too complicate.
For the camper conversion itself it's not necessary to have professional experiences. We also didn't have and our source of knowledge was RUclips. So I am sure, you can also do that! :)
Cheers, Mike
I mean this kind of roof:

Ich habe nun all deine T1 Videos interessiert verfolgt.
I’ve watched all of your 310 videos in the past couple of days. They’re absolutely excellent. I hope I won’t have to wait long for the next one!
I was wondering… with the floor and ceiling that you fitted, how much internal height did you lose and what is the internal height now? Thank you!
Hi Joseph, I lost about 3cm each for the floor and the ceiling which leaves about 177cm now... Cheers, Mike
Have you stopped making video's for youtube?
I have plans to continue, just so busy with other things at the moment... :)
Wann geht s weiter?
