Wright is one of the greats. He is the king of deadpan one liners. Have never seen him show any emotion until this interview. Another reason why Conan is amazing
I am going to hafta disagree. I have never been a fan of this stand up comedian. I simply do not feel like bursting out laughing at all when this Steven Wright says his bit on stage. He is a bore to me. It bewilders me how people think that he is an entertaining comedian. I find more humour watching my dog take a dump on the lawn than watching Steven Wright on stage. Jus sayin
@@bmwrulesforeternity5218 Just like Norm MacDonald, the joke is mostly in the delivery. He sounds like a bore to make his crazy stories on-stage sound even wilder. On talk shows, his humour is in being just as absurd.

It's really weird seeing him break character. He purposefully makes it impossible to know if he's doing a bit or just having an awkward conversation. Anyway, we can't post in a video about Seven Wright without quoting one of his many great one-liners, so here goes: "I was a peripheral visionary. I could see into the future, but only way off to the side."
I remember seeing videos of him early in his career where he would have to suppress smiles during his act. He has perfected his deadpan delivery over the years. Awesome guy!
Me and a few friends Shared a beer and a shot with Steve in 1999 at a bar in Martha’s Vineyard... After about 2 mins it was just 4 guys having a beer.... great dude. 👍🏻
"I put instant coffee in the microwave. I went back in time". Edit: I almost went back in time." One of my favorite jokes from him. This joke is actually lost on some people.

If you haven't seen Steven Wright live, put it on your bucket list. I read in a recent interview that he doesn't want to retire from touring -- he still enjoys it. He's doing shows Sept/Oct/Nov 2022 (east coast / midwest). Schedule is on his website.
When I was a teenager in the late 80's... I saw him on TV. I'll always remember this bit... "I've been driving a lot lately... around the country. I have a map of the US.... actual size.... one mile equals one mile...". The way he delivered it.... I was rollin'.
@@Blakecartersfs too soon or not, death is inevitable and I think my point is valid. Norm was underrated when he was alive, and Steven Wright is underrated. Steven should be celebrated and recognized now.
Hedberg's friend Doug Stanhope said Mitch hated the comparison to Wright because a lot of those things really happened to Mitch. Like trying to get bread for a duck at Subway, is an actual story. Both are fantastic anyway. So is Stanhope.
I have two very rare photographs. One is a picture of Houdini locking his keys in his car. The other is a rare photograph of Norman Rockwell beating up a child.
"The other day i ran into a subliminal advertising executive...but only for a second...".😃luv this dude....saw this legend twice in Melbourne........(Florida not Austrailia)
One time I accidentally put my car keys in my front door lock and my apartment building started up. I thought "What the hell, I'll drive it around the block." A cop pulls me over and asks "Where do you live?" I said "Right here."

And keeps it stored everywhere
Last week I folded it.
I love the similar "I wanna get a tattoo over my whole body, of my self, but taller"
Best Steven Wright joke ever: I was walking down the street other day, and the prescription ran out on my glasses, I couldn't see a damn thing!... 🤣
@Hawken707: 😂 I don’t remember that one.
I bought some powdered water but I didn't know what to add...🤔🤣
That was a treat, to see & hear him laugh.
I know !!!! Just to see him smile.
Thats the most emotion I've ever seen him show. Enjoyed that

He used to break a lot on Craig Ferguson. Definitely two of the best late night hosts.

Who doesn't love Steven Wright. Deadpan, monotone hilarity.
I loved him the first time I saw him on Johnny Carson -- DECADES AGO.
Entire shows of just one-liners are BO-RING! If I tried to watch one of Steven's specials, I'd fall asleep after just 5 minutes!
@@loganidol you should try and see, I think you will be quoting Steven regularly.
I don't not!
hes a seriously deep thinker. hes like, one standard deviation away from having a spiritual awakening lol
seeing him laugh like that at 3:18 makes me so happy for some reason
As a kid I never understood Steven Wrights comedic approach but as an adult I totally get it. His timing and cadence is on point. Hilarious 😂 😃 😄
yes
He once said... "I woke up the other day and everything in my apartment had been stolen and replaced with an exact replica.

I miss this era of Conan. I used to watch the reruns in the morning before going to school, it was a great way to start the day.
I don't think I'd ever seen him laugh before
He’s the human version of Snuffleupagus.
I like that too, but I've always seen him as Eeore.
Ha...so true!
Steven Wright is too funny. Wish he had more specials
If he had more or many...would they even be special?
I would love to see a conversation between Steven Wright and Jordan Schlansky.
There'd be a risk of opening a portal to an alternate universe if that happens.
@@priapulida I'd pay to see that!
why didnt this ever happen?
I want to see Jordan work a drive-through at a fast food restaurant.
Have Steven wear a I❤️ Italy t-shirt!

Steven Wright has such a unique style that only he can pull off.
At the end you can catch the look of horror on his face at the prospect of human contact.
Straight up legend of comedy. And utter genius
Me and a few friends Shared a beer and a shot with Steve in 1999 at a bar in Martha’s Vineyard...
After about 2 mins it was just 4 guys having a beer.... great dude. 👍🏻
Always loved Steven Wright, his brain processes things way differently than the rest of us.
it's beautiful how it works.
His best roll was playing the guy on the couch in Half Baked 😂 My favorite comic.
My favorite was him in Dr. Katz
He has his own brand of humor that he just made up out of nowhere. He is a weird genius of sorts.
"Listen to books on tape..."
Audible: Write that down write that down
"I put instant coffee in the microwave. I went back in time". Edit: I almost went back in time."
One of my favorite jokes from him. This joke is actually lost on some people.
I don't get it
Yes somebody please explain
Instant coffee. Instant. Microwave. It's fast. If you speed up an instant... There's nowhere to go but back in time.
Really not that hard. 😉
Also the first joke that comes to me when when thinking of his material. I actually had to check to see if I had left this comment.
I bought a cordless extension cord
As a musician he is 100% right about reading music
Imagine Steven Wright and J Mascis interviewing each other.
Dinosaur Jr for life!
He sounds the same."Read music and listen to books on tape."

Same.
I’m already laughing and the video hasn’t started yet lol
You’re never wrong if you’re Wright.
Here's your gold 🏅
"You can't have everything, where would you put it?" - Steven Wright
One of my favourite comedians of all time.
Same.
to the zoomers, this is the guy on the couch from half baked.
Haven't seen him in a while. I watch his older vids all of the time. King of deadpan to be sure.
I was at a game in '72 and saw three consecutive batters each hit a grand slam.
His first full laugh in decades
It's like he understood all his jokes at the same time
It's a small world but I wouldn't want to paint it
Now that computers can change the speed of music without changing the pitch, Steven could have an entirely new hobby.
"I like to read music and listen to books on tape". I really enjoy Stephen Wright's humor.
Steven Wright is a national treasure. Let's recognize this before he pulls a Norm MacDonald on us.
C'mon man, just dont
Too soon

I saw a youtube video of him on the carson show in 1981. He does not look the same in this video. WTF? He looked much better in 1981!
3:17 this seriously is the hardest I’ve ever heard him laugh 😂
He kind of flinched when Conan touched him on the shoulder.
Steven Wright should do a podcast with the ghost of Mitch Hedburg.

He became such a Bukowski figure
I’ll always remember him as The Guy on the Couch
Perfect casting
My favorite comedian!!!

When he said he has smashed windows, his eyes say it all.

So clever to come up with such a unique schtick.
