Thank you for diagnosing this issue, this JUST happened to our 2002 Galant with 102K miles on it, driving to work. I was able to drive it back home, checked the belts and they are OK. Sounds exactly like it is in the video, and gets louder with higher RPM so it's definitely something driven by the belt. I'm confident it's the water pump. Thank you!!!
Other information: Spark plug was worn down, and replaced. (No change). No oil in coolant. Oil has recently been changed. Actually started a few days after the oil change. Car has been properly maintained and not abused at all.
For all you who are watching this, Ericthecarguy, great RUclipsr for car repair, helped me diagnosed the problem. The problem turns out that it was actually the water pump. In this car, it is driven by the accessory belts. It was a brand new Bosch that failed. I replaced it and it is sounding much better.
I need some help guys. I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant. The Water pump went out on it and it was replaced. I took it to NAPA. The day I picked it up I noticed that it has kind of a rattling noise when I accelerate hard. I took it back a couple of weeks ago and they tried replacing 2 parts (Axle and some other part close to the water pump). They cannot figure out what the noise is. I tend to think that it is a deffective water pump, because it started the day the car was given back to me and I had never heard the noise before. Any thoughts anyone????
Hi Eric. I have a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant which I have taken to 3 technicians and all have different opinions i.e timing belt, lifters, rod knock... I am confused. The noise appears to be coming from the timing belt compartment. It started out as a little noise in the mornings, then would go away. Now it is there full-time. Any ideas ? Where are you located ? I could bring you my car.
i have the same problem.... when the start up the car it make the same noise but after a minute it came back to normal and usualy the car is running between 1 and 2 bmp on parking and natural too....... if someone have idea why is like that please answer me..
our service center told us that we also have a bad water pump due to a rattling noise that was way obvious (like heard from a block away, to exaggerate a bit) from about 1100rpm to 1800/1900 rpm but goes away once the revs rise past that. HONDAxACURA, was that the same as yours?
My 99 galant has the same noise, if you can hear it over the injectors ticking lol ever figure it out? I'm worried my engine is going to go one of these days.
I HAVE GALANT 2005 IT WAS MAKING THE SAME NOISE AND SMELLED LIKE BURNT RUBBER NOW IT DONT START IT SOUNDS WEIRED WHEN I TRY TO START IT I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE SUCKS
David Salazar i have a 2006 that just started this similar noise. am scared to drive it. did your motor go out as soon as your cR started making that noise. im scared to drive it to the shop

Oil pump
my 2000 galant had a similar noise turned out to be the hydraulic lifters changed them and it's running smoothly with 240,000 miles and counting

Sorry for the late reply as I don't check this page that often. The noise gets louder with RPM. It may be the waterpump as it was for me.
Does it do it while your driving the car
Nope, not a rod knock. I'll send you an email back with my comments.
