I like the Alpha Strike,it makes games go very quickly. But Destiny's my jam. It gives me some speed and some of the favor of original. (I'm a fan of blowing parts off mechs😃
I love this match, what a great scenario! My only constructive criticism to make is that I love the music, but it is often a little too loud and makes it hard to understand not just your banter but what you are saying you are doing. May want to tone the volume down slightly 😊
Cool report. Some close ups of the action would be really nice. I know it’s a pain but a) the paint jobs are superb and b) the mechs are really hard to see at the distance you film.
What a match! Ben put up a good fight, but alas a frontal assault just doesn't seem to be the Capellans' strong suit! That table set up looks absolutely phenomenal. Love the map Aaron, and thank you for another alpha strike battle report. I love the Spires terrain. Can I ask if you went with the large prints or small prints on the Terrrainify spire models?
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Hi Aaron, I can’t find your email address? Can you please send it? Yes sizes are listed on their website so if you don’t mind measuring and cross comparing to let me know that would be much appreciated. Thanks
12:00 Just got into Alpha Strike a few weeks ago. Doesn't artillery scatter the amount you missed by times two? So in your half scale times one? But then maybe you should also halve the size of the templates? "The POI will then scatter along this direction a distance in inches that is twice the margin of failure (MoF) the attack roll missed the target number" p152 in the Alpha Strike Commander's Edition under advanced artillery rules, but it is the same with the normal artillery rules
Considering your icon is a Dark Angels logo, I’ll take that as a compliment haha But do what makes you happy! There are free Alpha Strike quick start rules out there if you just want to give it a spin!
As someone with both, I'd say go for AS! I've had a lot more fun recently with BT than I have with GW, and I'm not worried about a 2-3 year lifecycle. (I have about 8k pts of "legends" models for GW now, and more each year...)
For that Marauder MAD-5L consider using heavy smoke screens from SRM-4's or LRM-10's. That Marauder is well known to be a point blank melee mech. Never worry about optimal heat to charge the TSM as you should be covered by smoke when turning it off. Using smoke to isolate targets as the marauder focuses the mech down. The best pilot is a 2/3 or 3/4 and consider using thunder augmented to do leg damage that way the Marauder will kick off the legs. When your using incendiary tactics setting a location on fire and standing in the fire also works to charge the TSM. I normally consider the Crusader CRD-7L or Archer ARC-7L as a smoke dispenser and split the LRM packs into light smoke clusters to control LOS and stack the smoke bonus with the stealth armor as the mech closes.
Word has it that the TSA has listed the Jinggau Mini as a dangerous weapon with how much metal it contains. Early comments are rooting for the Capellans and way to represent Mechanicsburg!!!
"Welcome," the elderly range officer bellowed out, "to Sian's premier shooting academy. Here, we sort the citizens from the servitors, the warriors from the weak, and those with an eye from those who *do NOT!*" She gestured towards the blackboard behind here with a half-meter stick. It smacked against the crude diagram of an Enforcer. "Who among you addled wastes of meat can tell me where on this mech you should be aiming for?" "The head," one cadet from the back shouted out. "Wrong!" She gestured towards the exit of the classroom with the stick so hard it made a whipcrack. "Report for servitor assignment, you disappointment! You have dishonored your family." The cadet grumbled as he trudged out of the room. Once gone, the officer panned her harsh gaze across the rest of the cadets. "Who here has two neurons to rub together?" "Ma'am, the best shot would be the center torso," another offered. "It's the most reliable target!" "Wrong! Servitor!" A woman with glasses raised her hand before speaking. "Right torso! That's where the AC ammo is!" "Wrong as well! Servitor-nerd will now LEAVE!" "The *rear!"* The range officer's head snapped around to see who spoke. "Who said that!? Stand up now!" The young man who had spoken stood proudly. "The best CCAF mechwarriors *always* attack the rear armor." And that cadet was none other than Sun-Tzu Liao, the bestest chancellor ever. The end.
Stealth armor is intended to prevent hits. The usefulness of Stealth armor is negated when using variant attack/damage rules that allow you to roll extra dice. It effectively reduces damage rather than preventing it. Units with STL suffer from having fewer armor points so any damage taken is more serious.
To that you have to add the extreme range rule they were using with the lower To Hit modifiers, which further hurt the stealth mechs. Essentially the raison d'etre of Ben's force was nullified before starting. They should make some modification to the stealth rules for using with their home rules.
I have been playing battletech games and RP since almost 20 years and i cant even remember ever hearing of a mech of that name before.. this will be a discovery for me.
It was kind of hideous originally, and I’ve blotted it out of my mind. The re-imagined artwork is pretty nice and the sculpt mimics it. I’m gonna need to get a couple of these for my Capellans just because I like it.
Capellans got the planet back because the folks occupying it forgot to bring their flag. They came to the planet asked to se the Free world flag. Free worlds league officers said we dont have one. Capellan said now you do, gave them teirs, and now the planet was Capellan because an oversight in the packing department. This is how it's always worked. Just ask the British how they got their empire back in the day.
Jinggau came up so many times, had to try to find a translation. answer: none, its a nonsense word. It's really supposed to be a phonetic word for the Chinese word Jing Gao, which has multiple meanings depending if its mandarin or not. Mandarin it means to warn or admonish, otherwise it is to announce reverentially. Jing Gao is accented with the I and A so i think rather than using accent marks, they just used Jinggau to ensure it was at least spoken correctly... which I think was a failure, lol. I think this might be a pattern across all factions? if its too hard to pronounce, spell it out phonetically and poof, that's the units name now :)

Only one side having artillery made that super one sided. Aside from just the ease of hitting open terrain over almost any unit that has moved, it also ignores the stealth.
Nah. I can see how it looked that way, but Ben took some gambles that didn’t pay off. It happens in wargames pretty regularly. I got very lucky with scatters as well.

We do halve the templates. And correct - it’s just dice times one, which is also what we did here - so you are on point!!!
I love watching this stuff. Can you turn the music down a couple notches when you're talking though?
Great battle. Again Aaron show that magical die and unconventional vehicles win the day. LMFAO the banter between you two. 🤣
