Beltane Border Morris dance Vixana just for fun in the sea, Teign Maritime Shanty Festival, 9/9/2023

- After an memorable day in Teignmouth at the Teign Maritime Shanty Festival in which they danced in temperatures of 25C they unsurprisingly headed to the sea for a final 30th dance of the day. Tatter coats and boots were shed and they enthusiastically danced a double dance set of Vixana. Vixana was chosen primarily because it involves sticking close to the ground which the dancers interpreted as splashing neighbouring dancers!
These folk are as tough as they look,Great stuff. Straight to a warm pub I hope.
Water was 21C which is crazily warm for the UK. It'd been so hot dancing in town all day we just had to dance in the sea before heading to the pub!

Ah, fun in the sea in Devon! Reminds me of the time a group of us in the mid-70s went down to Dawlish in all our wintery hippy finery and decided we needed to do some sort of circle dance, in the sea (of course...!)... We'd just joined hands in a big circle when one person lost their footing in the soft sand, and down we all went one by one, like a set of dominoes... Soaked to the skin, woollen coats saturated, but what did we care? We lit a fire and carried on. Magical days and nights of sea and sand, sky and fire and dancing.
Oh to be so carefree, young and healthy again. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, all you beautiful people out there!
