It’s actually a misconception that climbers are adrenaline junkies. Adrenaline is the last thing you want on a rock or ice. You want to breath easy and maintain composure, they likely rappelled down or shakily finished
Most climbers dont actually go for adrenaline nor get it from falls. Most climbers when falling are calm, not because we're soulless or of hardened mind; its just that our gear is so damn good and we trust it. Getting adrenaline can be bad, especially for this long haul climbs because it can tire you out a bit more, you will waste some of your stamina. I will admit though, first few falls lead climbing are spookier, but they lose that essence usually after 2-3.
Like the others said here, in climbing we dont want this adrenalin rush. You want to stay focused and keep your mind calm. Adrenalin could give you a small increase in power but you wouldnt focus anymore. Many people think you have to be super strong to climb. But its not all. Actually there are three main things. @@xXxchi11xXx You know Free Solo climbers go throughly trhough the route with safety for so many times before they attempt it, only after being 100% sure.
What actually happened? I'm not a climber, and have only even roped up a thirty foot rock face just twice so I know absolutely nothing, but my initial reaction to that happening would be to blame the belayer too... What went wrong? And just how lucky was that guy?
Love how the scream of death becomes a happy party yell.. No I wasn't scared I was screaming like a 4 year old girl because I love this rock climbing stuff.
Youll only ever see falls more than 1 foot at the higher level of climbing once you begin "lead" climbing (what these climbers are doing). Go try top-roping in a climbing gym! If you fall off the wall you'll only drop about a foot. It's super safe.
Not quite. If an anchor point fails when top roping you go down and there's nothing else to stop you but ground. When You lead climb You use multiple anchors as You gain height. The higher off ground, the safer it gets. Whippers look scary, but mostly they're 100% safe and part of the game. They're like jumping to water - it takes practice to get it right.
I don't rock climb, but I have a lot of respect for these guys/gals that do this. It looks so amazing! I just wish a didn't have a terrible fear of heights.
I don't understand how the lead climber can fall so far on some of those. I mean yeah there's some slack, elasticity in the rope and it may yank the belayer off the ground, and even when the top quick draw held some climbers fell nearly all the way to the bottom. Is there a reason for this? Helpful answers only please I'm looking to be educated.
It's due to a terrible belayer. If you belay lead properly the only reason to give that much slack is when they are going for a clip. Most groups in these videos are idiots because there is no communication between climber and belayer. You DO want to give slack on lead, so the climber doesn't get pulled down by the rope as they climb, but usually a climber will announce "Clipping!", and that's the belayers que to give more slack. But after every clip they should be pulling all the slack back in.
Also you can tell who is an inexperienced climber because they try to catch them selves as they fall, which is the main reason they all end up upside down. If you fall climbing like this, push yourself away from the wall, and keep your feet out in front of you.
Its also because when people put the clips in themselves when they are climbing, sometimes its not in the best place so when they fall the clips come out of the wall the climber will fall to the next closest clip.
Not only of that, also because of the number one misstake i see in all of this compilations. The rope runs between the legs. (i hope you understand what i mean, sorry for my english) It's ok if the route goes strait up. But if not, the rope should run OVER your upper leg and your legs never should be between the rope and the rock. Helmets can impede some routes, but I'm amazed how many risk their lives by not wearing one. You might survive the departure from the climb face, but then you head hits hard and your dead?
Climbing helmets aren't made to protect you from falling and hitting your head on things, they're meant to protect you from debris falling from above. That's why they're so different compared to cycling or ski helmets.
wagglemonkey not true, helmets these days are being designed with lower sides and back for this. There's a more than few stories out there of people who received just a concussion as opposed to a brain deading injury
Winchester1979 yer something like that! too much rope out and it also stretches by around 20-30% when you fall. so if you climb 50m high and have 60m of rope payed out. when you take a fall you can fall around 20m. And that's all good as it should be the stretch in the rope slows and cushions your fall. But if you have to much rope payed out and one or more anchors fail it's easy to hit the floor. That's why good belaying and communication is a essential skill. rock climbing is a dangerous sport and deadly when care isn't taken.

Second Guy *falls, bounces off cliff*
ANNOYED girlfriend: “you alright?!” 😩💀
Helmets can impede some routes, but I'm amazed how many risk their lives by not wearing one. You might survive the departure from the climb face, but then you head hits hard and your dead?
Climbing helmets aren't made to protect you from falling and hitting your head on things, they're meant to protect you from debris falling from above. That's why they're so different compared to cycling or ski helmets.
wagglemonkey not true, helmets these days are being designed with lower sides and back for this. There's a more than few stories out there of people who received just a concussion as opposed to a brain deading injury
DeSousausmc use a full helmet (like bikers) then, using bicycle helmets is just stupid lol
@@DeSousausmc Then people would just wear motorcycle crash helmets. Climbing helmets are for debris, stones, falling from above.
So basically everyone sounds like Tarzan before cracking their skulls when they land on their heads.
2:40 that be the end of my climbing id start marathons or something instead
Lol I quit marathons to climb and was always injured running and never climbing(ya a bit of luck but mostly learned I wasn't bulletproof)
That's about 10, 11 deaths right there if without the safety ropes. Shout out to the safety ropes.
Bro sounded like salacious b crumb 1:47
my parents knew a guy who would go freeclimbing at places like 5:11 let's just say he is no longer with us
Free climbing is climbing with a rope. I think you mean free soloing, where you climb with no rope or protection
freesolo there souds like suicide.
I had a coworker that fell to her death doing this. May she rest in peace.
Disclaimer: No rocks were injured in the making of these videos🧗
Appreciate so much the subs!
Everybody's gangsta falling until it's your time and you ware free soloing...
4:54 Did the belayer not take in the slack, or what happened there?
Winchester1979 yer something like that! too much rope out and it also stretches by around 20-30% when you fall.
so if you climb 50m high and have 60m of rope payed out. when you take a fall you can fall around 20m. And that's all good as it should be the stretch in the rope slows and cushions your fall. But if you have to much rope payed out and one or more anchors fail it's easy to hit the floor.
That's why good belaying and communication is a essential skill. rock climbing is a dangerous sport and deadly when care isn't taken.
Is that guy ok he wasn’t moving his head did he break his neck?
One meter more and that would have been a realy bad landing. Ouch! Could have been badly injured.
more than a few close calls
Guys, this is really rare in rock climbing band it is a really awesome experience, don’t stay in your beds! Go out and try it!
Anyways, while you do that I will be over here sitting in my bed
how about no
@@Bimgus9 You're smart then
I loved rock climbing. Did it from age 32 to 53. But call me a coward or smart, I avoided lead climbing. Almost always top roping. Didn’t like trusting my life to a chock, wedge or “friend”.
