    You can remove nitrates without water changes, with an Anoxic filteration.

    Are ceramic rings good for biological filtration?

      Ceramic rings are there to slow the flow of water through your sump or cannisters. As the surface is not porous, you’d expect to only harbour aerobic bacteria over time. Its good to reduce flow through your filter but its not a fantastic bio media

      ​@@OZDiscusWhat are the ideal bio media's that should be used in a discus tank to produce an abundant quantity of beneficial bacteria? I have heard that ceramic media's are not good for canister filters as they erode the impeller of the canister in the long run.

      @@rajadey4919 go for CeMedia's Marine Pure Blocks. These are essential in building Anaerobic bacteria and you never need to wash it.
