Detroit has changed but ppl won’t accept it for some reason 😢😊
Yes I think more people should give it a chance and visit for themselves 😎
Exactly people won’t accept change Detroit is changing people need to accept and move forward the comeback won’t happen overnight but we headed in the right direction
For those of you thinking about visiting Detroit, if you want fancy shopping and restaurants you can head about 20 minutes north to downtown Birmingham. You can also check out Somerset Mall in Troy. Detroit has some great spots…you just have to know where to go😊
Definitely!! 😄
I work downtown in fine dining & walk to my car with cash every night. Never felt unsafe, ever.
Nicee yes the downtown area feels really safe
I currently work remotely for a company based in Detroit, and sometimes I would take business trips out there. Detroit is such a vibe of a city and I've felt more unsafe walking around downtown SF and downtown LA.
Haha exactly people definitely need to check it out and change their perception
Exactly…I stayed in downtown L.A. recently and couldn’t wait to get out of there. It was VERY unsafe
@@Mark-oy1wv dam it got that bad 😂 it's been a few years since I was in LA but there were already tons of sketchy people around
Memphis & Chicago got Detroit beat when it comes to Dangerous and Unsafe but all eyes stay on the D
@@stephanierice4468 yea Memphis is another dangerous one
Cinematography is on point! Being a resident, you make Detroitnlook more than it actually is. You've sold it to me, maybe I'll go outside now
Haha thanks I appreciate it 😎 yes take a look outside 😂
Detroit is a great city (one of the best) and becoming busier and busier every year
Agreed it's definitely up and coming ☝🏽
I'm a single mom and going there with my little son next month and I was becoming very nervous, but this video really helped me feeling comfortable. I really love this kind of informative video, thanks so much for sharing.
I'm glad to hear it! He will definitely love the greenfield village and downtown is pretty safe so I hope you'll enjoy your time 😊😊
the city isn’t even close to being the “most dangerous” in the country and hasn’t been in over a decade. while I appreciate the lovely video about the city, the creator repeating one of the most heinous false narratives is very upsetting as a detroit native.
4:00 your comments about the crime being in the suburbs is wrong... the crime is in the vast outer regions of the city... everywhere except for for about 4 square miles downtown. If you bother to drive 3 miles to the South, North, or West, you will understand. It is a vast wasteland until you hit the city outer limits, then the suburbs are mostly safe. The lines of demarcation are unmistakable. The only thing that makes Detroit somewhat tolerable are all of the Arabic peoples around Dearborn (which is very safe) have kept these areas from being enveloped by blight. Greenfield Village is the perfect example of a safe suburb. If you drive just drive 4 miles North from there, and you will be in Detroit's danger zone. Where there used to be nearly a 100% lot utilization is down to less than 50%. Everything else is leveled, as if a bomb went off. Even Hiroshima has rebuilt from total devastation. I doubt Detroit will ever rebuild. Sometimes I think Detroit is a playing card of sacrifice to a future nuclear war. Its that bad. The neighborhood I grew up in back in the 50s is now a world-class danger zone. I live only 4 miles from it, in a suburb which is very safe.
😮
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 quit being a hater. Just admit you're scared of black people
I grew up in the Belmont neighborhood, it was lovely growing up there back in the day, went back there about a month ago it was so disturbing to me.
@@menace3132 😮
Yeah on a Monday night. Was there recently on a trip over a weekend. It was very much alive!
Glad to hear! Def gotta revisit
Yeah, even downtown Chicago is empty and slow on a Monday night
I thought he was going to show outside of downtown, at least he gave detroit a good view. I love detroit. Really want outside the downtown built back up.
Maybe next time but gotta start somewhere!
There are at least five other areas not in downtown that are already getting quite built up. Hell, Midtown was already nice over a decade ago.
@@uvhciM yea Dearborn and Greenfield village was also pretty tranquil and nice
@@eclecticemissary - oh yeah, the surrounding cities/suburbs of Detroit are generally fine. There are a few rough neighborhoods (Ecorse, Inkster, Redford, and a few others.), and the towns vary in terms of older vs. newer housing, infrastructure and varying income levels, but most are perfectly safe. Dearborn is a unique town by any standard - personally, I love it. It's an interesting mix of people and cultures, great museums (I also like Greenfield Village & The Henry Ford Museum), great little markets, a Fortune 500 company, and absolutely top-notch Middle Eastern food that I still have yet to see any other US city match. The southeast end still needs work (an older industrial area with infrastructure issues), but the people are cool and friendly, and the city is pretty firmly committed to bettering itself, and more forward-thinking than ever these days.
@@uvhciM exactly 😎 you described it perfectly 👌🏽
Well it's easy to tell that you've never been to Detroit before. And you're only going by what people say Detroit is. It's not that way anymore. And you were in Detroit on a Monday night and a rainy night. So who's going to be out in the street on Monday night of rainy Monday night. When you have to prepare to go to work the next day.
Yea no duh that's why I went to check it out myself. Lmao just went when the opportunity arose in summer so I'll def give it another chance on a Friday night
I’m a life long Michigan resident. I have never been to Detroit. Growing up everyone always said it was a bad place to go. I wasn’t even allowed to go on school field trips to Detroit when I was a kid. Personally I don’t think it’s really as bad as everyone made it out to be. I am thinking about taking a drive down there this year.
Come to an event downtown and I guarantee you’ll have a good time.🙂
I think you should try it out for yourself you will be surprised 😎👍🏽
Im doing a baseball trip with my dad and this year is detroit. Was very nervous at first. But feeling a little better now
That's awesome! Yes downtown is very safe and there a lot of cool sights to see and good food 😆
@@eclecticemissary haha very exciting thank so much for calming my nerves
@@fiercefire814 haha no problem hope you enjoy it 😎
I'm from the UK and I went to Detroit a month ago and gotta say i was pleasantly surprised, really good pizza
Yess definitely!! It's a great city to visit and the food is really good 😎👌🏽
I’ve never been to Detroit, I may go to the Detroit Auto Show in 2024. I have been to Chicago before and despite its reputation as a violent city the downtown area and the area by the lake and Navy Pier is great. Never at any point during the week long trip did I ever feel unsafe. Cities like Chicago or Detroit are what I call cities of two completely opposite personalities. They are amazing tourist destinations but due to their high crime rates among others they are best left as a place you visit and not live. I grew up 30 miles north of Seattle and Seattle is a much more liveable city due to having one of the lowest crime rates among major US cities though it has been on the rise in recent years and does have the nation’s third largest homeless population. I’m not the kind of guy who could live in any large city though, I like the quiet and privacy you get from living in a more rural area.
Exactly 👌🏽 Chicago is another amazing city with lots to do, very similar to Detroit. As long as you stay in the downtown areas you will be fine. Hope you enjoy your time! 😆
Downtown Detroit is safe it's the rest of Detroit that's dangerous
Exactly
Take a drive through Dearborn, or Gratiot. Lol
Nah. While the vast majority of Detroit is still very rough, the good parts are have actually expanded beyond downtown at this point. Heck, Midtown was already improved to the point of being plenty safe even a decade ago. Some Detroit of the gorgeous housing communities in Detroit were always pretty safe, but we'll not count the gated communities.
The "work in progress" areas are places like Corktown, which is already ridiculously better than it was in the 1990s, and will continue to get better as the city keeps following the plan to improve everything one block at a time.
this dude showed the safe shit, ain't no way he going to the dangerous spots.
otherwise he be in a car,
he just did this for clicks.
he just trying to make it seem like it ain't that bad,
but it's always people that don't live in the bad areas.
we go show you this, but do worry about this other area lol.
@@Jeymez lol the people that only stay downtown barely seen the real deal Detroit hell downtown not even considered Detroit no more lol it’s just downtown
Came here after some ppl told me on Reddit its not safe to visit but after watching this I’ll definitely consider going but just in the downtown area, I live 2 hours from there across the Canadian border and would love to check it out at least once since I never been
Yea I highly recommend checking it out for yourself. I felt perfectly safe in the downtown area and there's lots of great food and museums.
How safe is downtown Detroit? I thinking of going to a Detroit tigers games and I thought I would ask is it safe around that area Comerica
Bank park that is?
@@brandonn6837 oyea I was right around that area and walked by the stadium I think it's one of the more popular streets so it's totally safe around there. I didn't feel like it was sketchy at all 👍🏽
@@eclecticemissary ah ok that’s good to know cus I’m staying in Windsor with a buddy of mine for about 2 days and during that 2 day span where gunna be taking the Detroit-Windsor bus that runs hourly
@@brandonn6837 I think you guys should be fine Downtown Detroit is really nice. Just like with any city as long as you are aware f you're surroundings and don't go looking for trouble everything will be okay 👌🏽
Thanks for the post. I'm a New Yorker and depending on who you ask, you will be murdered as soon as you get off the plane in NYC. I am definitely visiting Detroit and might relocate.
Haha yes I know watchu mean I'm from Brooklyn too and everyone else exaggerates how dangerous everything is. Detroit is pretty much the same as long as you stay out of the bad neighborhoods
@@eclecticemissary Brooklynite here. I walk through Brownsville at night without fear. I am interested in the water front area.
@@APG-fu6gk nicee represent 😎👌🏽
Plenty safe to walk around places like downtown, Corktown, Greektown. I’ve don’t it many times, by myself, at night. Feel as safe as I do in Chicago, NYC, etc. just stay in those neighborhoods and by as careful as you should by in any sizeable city
Great advice thank you!! Definitely not as dangerous a city as everyone makes it seem 😎
walk around the East side Mack ave and chalmers or McClennen. Bring you firearm tho
😂 they won't let me on the plane
Never fart in detriot they will
Mistake for a gun shot
🤣🤣
Detroit has decided to revitalize itself by upgrading the downtown area. The idea is to make a tourist attraction, and there is a lot to like when you include attractions in the entire Metro Detroit area. When the city hit rock bottom, the downtown area emptied out. Over 7,000,000 sq. ft. of vacant office space in old buildings big corporations had no interest in leasing, especially when shiny new skyscrapers were being built in suburbs lik Troy, Birmingham, and Livonia. It is wishful thinking, but I often wonder what Detroit would look like if all those new buildings were constructed dowtown. They weren't mainly because of the imposition of a City income tax back in the late '60's. Neither the companies nor their employees wanted to subject themselves to that extra tariiff. Another problem is the lack of an effective public transportation system. There is no subway. It is widely suspected that the auto magnates lobbied hard to make Detroit a city where every resident would need their own car to get around.
If you visit, enjoy yourself. Plan on renting a car to get around. With all the money poured into the downtown areas, expect to see the outlying residential areas to be a bit of a shock. That is where the crime problems exist. Stay on the expressways to get to places like The Henry Ford, or the Cranbrook museums. There are few places for people to live in downtown, and few grocery stores, or any kind of retail stores, for that matter. Plus a bad school system for kids. The shopping and school problems will have to be fixed before families will elect to live in the downtown area and turn Detroit into a real vibrant urban experience.
Lots of people commute from the suburbs into downtown to work, and go home at 5:00 p.m., so the downtown area can feel a bit empty away from the sports arenas where a home game is being played. I feel sad for the neglected residential neighborhoods, but the decision to invest in the downtown area might payoff someday. It's a work in progress. As an added "thing to do", I'd suggest an hour's drive up to Port Huron if the weather in warm and nice to spend some time on its lovely public beaches on the shores of Lake Huron. You can't come to Michigan and not take a dip in a Great Lake.
Excellent thanks for your input! Yea I could see Detroit is in the midst of a huge rebirth and there's tons of nice buildings and shopping centers. I couldn't help but feel the city was empty tho. I'll def have to revisit again!
Detroit is a cakewalk bud lmfao. I’ve been a firefighter in Chicago. Go to Chicago and experience it lmfao. Go to the hoods there then back to Detroit and lmk what ya think
Yea will do
Chicago is turning into a ghetto, two friends who lived downtown both have moved out per the crime and blight setting in
@@josephzilafro2720 dam sucks to hear I really liked Chicago
Detroit's hoods were burned down over the past 30 years of Devil's nights and never rebuilt. Detroit ain't no cakewalk.
Yeah detroit such a cake walk, has a quater population of Chicago and half the murders hoooookay buddy
It isn't empty
🫥
First of all Detroit is not the most dangerous city in America. New Orleans and St Louis hod that dubious duo now. Furthermore there are several areas in the city which are safe. Those you who say otherwise have obviously not lived here.
Obviously 🤣
We don’t have gangs and out at night what do you expect
😯
detroit hasn’t been the most dangerous city in america in over a decade, it’s GROSSLY negligent to label detroit as such.
Smells like pee a little bit 🤣 I'm born and raised in Detroit. I left over 20 years ago to move to Atlanta, & though I will never move back, I'm looking to buy in Detroit. I love my city & people don't see where it's going, But I do!
Downtown Detroit is safe. Detroit is not safe, it's not as dangerous as people make it to be, but it's not safe, but that goes for all major cities, not just Detroit. Be smart, don't be out at night walking around looking like a tourist.
All major cities have a little pee on them 😂 but yea definitely right 👌🏽
wait till you meet a pop pop pop driveby ...
😮
Detroit is NOT ranked the most dangerous. Stop spreading lies.
Yea it's only 5th most dangerous now keep up sweety
TAKE HIM TO DETROIT
