I'm not sure I would have known how to feel "pull your skis under you" until you held onto my ski while I tried to resist pulling it forward. A game changer in my skiing ability, thank you!
What I love about skiing is that no matter the skill level, the skier and athlete is always learning something new. The athlete always looks at their own performance and says "I can do better" there are few other sports like it. This is why there are 65-70 use olds who still ski, a lot better than I can say 40.
Interesting stuff he brings out applicable to any athletic endeavor, it applies elsewhere in life too. I went to Rossignol/Nordica Spring Racing camp at Mammoth Mtn. Back in about 1980 with coaches "Jungle Jim" Hunter and Cindy Nelson, we had a great time and learned a lot. For us guys Jim Hunter was especially an inspiration. Another cool experience at Mt Hood in the early fall, got to ride the lift with the Mahre Brothers, also about 1980.
River mentioned "meet criteria" in a comment regarding US Ski Team selection and I've heard this comment on other interviews with Ski Team members what does it refer to?
Shouldn't surprise me anymore that another skier " discovers" skiing with the feet. Haven't we known this since at least the introduction of shaped skis? That said, an outstanding interview.
Candid, real and current. Nice job! And thanks to River for walking us through his turn and mindset. This is the content that belongs in coaches education, from the athletes POV. Validation for how they’ve been coached and evolved their own ideas about what works at World Cup level.
Awesome interview! I remember Deb as a guest coach at an NDS camp in Norway 20 years ago… glad she’s still so involved in the sport! And super insightful stuff from River!
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve watched it numerous times and am visualizing my runs with so much more insight. My dad and I love watching your videos and working on how to become a better racer.
Oh no big deal, Just Tommy Ford. Yes to Solden post injury rehab. Let us not forget the exciting BOP GS win the year he got injured. Such a great guy Tommy Ford!
Muchísimas gracias por hacer estos vídeos con tanta pasión, los tengo todos guardando y los miro continuamente para intentar mejorar en cada bajada. Es una lástima que vivamos ton lejos y no podamos conocer en persona.
it's almost a peddling action - driving through the "back foot/down hill ski" . Like how Tommy Ford asked "who are you - Deb Armstrong - okay" nothing........such is life. Love Ford though, hope he really gets back to good skiing.
So cool to hear a guy at this level talk. Positive and transparent conversation. Definitely a fan of his after this video

Love it!!!!!
Deb was preaching “pull your skis under you” to me years ago, while hanging on to my ski tip to make it harder! Great video!

Great talk as usual, thank you for sharing!
Hope to see more WC athlete interviews!

That’s a lot of humility for only 24 years of life.

Say Hi to Aldo and your Mom.
I met River 2009.
Aldo, his father, is one week my senior.
Nice pow, hit the woods.
Very clever boy! 👌👍🎉
Thanks for bringing this to us Deb. River had a GREAT run today finishing 16th @ Beaver Creek!

Then later he finds out, and says "Whoa!"
