Ziegfeld Follies dance director Sammy Lee directed this delightful routine of 8 flapper beauties, with overhead shots a year before Busby Berkeley! Having staged the dances for Rio Rita, Showboat, Ziegfeld Follies of 1927 and the Midnight Frolics of 1928, Sammy was enticed away from New York to Hollywood with a fat contract by MGM execs in 1929. They wanted someone more capable than "Broadway Melody" choreographer George Cunningham to supervise the many dance numbers for their super-colossal all talking musical project, "The Hollywood Revue." They wanted to make their 100% All Talking, All Singing, All Dancing musical pictures on a grand scale, with dance scenes to rival in grandeur those of a Ziegfeld Follies production-- so why not lure away the very man responsible for them? And thats exactly what they did.
