  • On December 11-12, 2024, as part of International Conference on Infrastructure Development and Sustainability (ICIDS), Adani University hosted a dynamic panel discussion delving into the "Revitalization of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) across Infrastructure Sector". As a leader in implementing PPPs for infrastructure development, India has seen the execution of over 2,000 projects at various stages, showcasing its global standing in private sector investment, business climate, and institutional maturity for such partnerships.
This engaging discussion brought together industry experts, policymakers, and academic leaders to reflect on the evolution of the PPP ecosystem over the last three decades, particularly in sectors such as energy, roads, ports, airports, and railways. Despite the strong reliance on private investment for the growth of infrastructure-which has accounted for more than 84% of projects achieving financial closure in the road and energy sectors-recent trends indicate a decline in the risk appetite among private investors.
The panel addressed crucial topics, including:
    1) Future Debates and Discussions: What emerging debates in PPP will influence the trajectory of infrastructure development in India?
    2) Crucial Revitalization: Why is revitalizing PPPs essential for overcoming existing infrastructure challenges and ensuring long-term sustainability?
    3) Lessons from Experience: What insights can be drawn from India's experiences with PPPs to maintain momentum in infrastructure development while balancing the interests of both public and private sectors?
    4) Regulatory Frameworks: What new regulatory measures must be established to reinforce private sector accountability regarding environmental impacts in the context of PPPs?
Join us as we explore these pivotal questions and gain valuable insights into the future of infrastructure in India, enhancing our understanding of the vital role that PPPs play in fostering economic growth and sustainability.
