Well this is a huge advancement. If they can get haptic feedback here, and find a way to have models actually have some level of kinetic force feedback through haptic, we may start to see the metaverse concept become real properly through vrchat
Its not a advancement at all, these things have been around forever in mocap. They wont take off on the consumer level because Flex or elastic resistors are expensive and unless they can get the price WAY down you wont see them much. Typical gloves cost around 500 and don't include position tracking (so tack on another 300 bucks for trackers), they also typically dont include control sticks. Which are sold separately so tack on another 100 bucks. Now your looking at around 900 bucks for some gloves.
Tbh, they should totally sell the index-finger controller/buttons as a standalone thing without the glove. We already have hand-recognition via hmd-camera or other external tracking-sources that allows to be hands-free, what we don't have is a hands-free solution to lateral movement (well, without strange poses that is), something that index-finger joystick seems ideal for.
very cool to see the input 2.0 actually come in handy. still a lot of work that needs to be done putting out the fires but in the end it will be worth it for stuff like this
Pogo arrays don't actually handle high movement very well, since the pins only connect through spring tension. When you move in the direction of the pins, they retract due to momentum. I would like to see a more robust solution than the flimsy ribbon they're using, though. Something durable and rated for a lot of cycles. I know ye olde 9v connector is inappropriate for the task, but it is durable and latches reliably. Traditional ribbon cables with a pin header are sadly way too large for the size constraints.
May i say one thing?: Its not that we need gloves, theres already hand tracking. This gap will be bridged via software. What do I mean? Those modules that are on the index finger? Just make that the controller, and use handtracking simultaneously. You dont need the glove at all, the modules can just vibrate, your brain will fill in the gaps.
These are perfect for applications like DCS, where you need a HOTAS to fly the plane, but still have the ability to reach out and manipulate the various switches, buttons and levers!
An excellent start, but a very simple to implement change that would massively improve them is put button emulators in the finger tips that are triggered when you touch a finger tip to the same hands thumb tip to "complete a circuit" without having to depress an analogue button; that would give you 8 virtual buttons with zero need for external immersion breaking analogue buttons or controllers to use, just you own hands! Do that and I will buy some! :)
You could get a small metal/plastic pipe with rubber on it for grip and play blade and sorcery with a immersive handle for one handed or two handed swords. You could even have a magnet on each end of the small pipes to combine into a longer pipe with maybe a hook system on your belt to holter it
yeah it's like they forget the majority of VR users are questies with price points in the 200-300 range. anything beyond it and there will be zero interest
@@fencingfireferret1188I find the current price frustrating, but the interest level will be non-zero. And the expensive early-adopter devices are paving the road for cheaper mass-market products farther down the line. We need crazy people buying thousand-dollar gloves now to create the market segment, make it large enough that economies of scale kick in, and attract competition. But not me. I ain't got that much cash to spend on gloves, especially ones with limited support.
Interesting! I would have personally liked to see the option to not use lazer tracking, but instead some form of camera based (Like the OG CV1) Something a lil less costly to hop into, with base stations being around 400 dollars to gets started, and then the trackers on top of that. Its possible! The old razer Hydras had a way to do it, these could too! Hoping for that!
I saved up to pre-order the driver-x contact glove v2's with the magnetra controllers, cross your fingers! I hope they have all the fidelity they claim to have!
hi-hi, this looks super interesting! 😊 Two questions: do you usually have phantom sense, and if so, did you had it while wearing the gloves? (we tried quest pro fingertracking, but airguitaring headpats doesn't trigger our phantom sense )
These are cool but we need some gloves that have some type of a resistance system built it.where it would actually feel like you were grabbing the object.where you grab a pistol off you hip and it feel like you were actually gripping a pistol.you grab something soft like a pillow,as it has some flexibility to it and doesn’t feel stiff..Im sure something like this is still a long way off but it would be amazing
When you mentioned you calibrated the gloves to you Quest Pro, was your headset connected to your PC using a data cable or Air Link? Or were you running off the headset's capabilities alone?
The cost plus the issues is the deal breaker for me. My hands are also arthritic so it’s actually beneficial for me to have something like a controller to grip vs closing my hand all the way. I’ll stick with knuckles.
Nice to see these actually in use, albeit maybe could've used a different avatar for testing fingers. Question though: Does this only emulate current Index finger tracking and just adds finger splay? For example, can you curl your fingers without making a fist? Or, for example, make a right angle with your fingers (as if you're climbing a ledge)?
It uses SteamVR’s skeletal hand input. Yes you can curl individual fingers, but I don’t think it’s precise enough for the right angle you are describing.
These are awesome and if I had the money I'd love to try them out. It does suck though, I use Vive 3.0s with my Index for FBT in VRChat but with these I'd have to get 2 more trackers so I could maintain FBT on my feet and hip.
wonder if they would work with the SlimeVr trackers i mean their light and small which is a game changer for both being combined. also this kinda wants me to have a prop sword handle or gun to play games like Pavlov or B&S. Gives me Ready Player 1 vibes forsure.
I'm interested in this product for real but after wrapping up everything... So do you mean I need the additional pair of Vive trackers for using this glove? I'm pretty dizzy because the website itself, it's looks working like a charm without it
@@TahvoStudio Hmmm, This is a sad news to me. Sadly the price Vive tracker itself in my country is 160 bucks per side that means 320 for using with one pair of gloves. If I include the glove price on Kickstarter this thing will cost around 820 USD to me 🥹 This is a great product but It's a very steep price for me. Maybe they might make a gen 2 that using some sort of tracking instead
These look identical to the ones I “came up” with when I was bored 2 years ago. Not color but the how they look and feel…. They’re listening to my thoughts ☠️
i was thinking something like this vr with gloves and gloves to vibrate for example when you open a door in vr the gloves vibrate or when you touch something with your fingers vibrates only the fingers but when you touch something with your whole hands vibrates the whole gloves. also resistance mechanism for example, when you pull something that supposedly needs more pressure or pull, the gloves resist and makes it feel realistic.
Will say, i didn't know it was "HIM" untill i saw the model of "HIM" that i'm used too later in, i watched thinking, HUH who the heck is this, something here seems familiar, now i wanna know have you made a video testing out the PS VR2 PC link? and is anyone working on some app or mod for vr chat so the haptics and eye tracking n stuff work
Can't they make like sensors for your legs and depending which way they face you can stand walk and it'll walk in the game? Would be so much more handier, about a bow and shooting it like a gun (almost) is it so hard to make motion of fingers taking arrow with your index and middle finger, pull and on release shoot? It could be too small of a gesture but I'd say very possible. For full immersion it would be great if they do something along in the future. I rather use a gamepad for now cuz its practically same thing expect grabbing objects 😅
So i can build gloves with HAPTIC FEEDBACK for 1/5th the price? And the expensive gloves theyre comparing too include haptics and tracking? Wheres tge Black Templar when you need them? Purge the unclean
Some one should make a controller thats the controller from the quest 2 or 3 or something that has two extra grip buttons for your ring and pinky finger, IF there trying to find a way to control each individual finger, you cant spread your fingers or anything though
I have always problems with gloves, they are too small. My hands are 8,5 inch (22 cm) and even XXL gloves are most too small. Yesterday I got my QUEST 3, and now I'm looking for gloves, bc the controllers are for little people, it's like a lighter for me.

Yeah but these gloves definitely are a good in between space where you don't have a VR treadmill to replace the joystick control
