Some of the best, most heartfelt conversations I’ve ever had have been on the water. Whether it was my father, best friends, new anglers, etc. Sometimes your perspectives are just unfortunate. This is one of them.
Fishing in tournaments against a bunch of hammers...you better be able to focus if you expect to cash a check. Fishing for fun with friends and family is a different deal...and equally enjoyable IMO. I otten fish alone now that my fishing buddies including my son have passed away. Fishing alone allows you to focus on your fishing and take in the sites and sounds of nature. I find it to be therapudic. Not to mention that it is the very best way to catch big bass.
After a year of persuasion, my neighbor finally got me to take his new son in law bass fishing yesterday. My neighbors son in law is 25 years old and has always wanted to go Bass fishing from a boat. The son in law has no fishing equipment, and had never cast any form of fishing rod. All these aspects are why I had always avoided taken him fishing. Well yesterday afternoon we went fishing at our local lake. I was impressed how quickly the son in law learned to cast a spinning rod. I rigged him up with a little crank bait and he went to work fishing. The son in law was happy as heck fishing. But, with all the excitement, the son in law was a talker. For 5 straight hours, he talked non stop. My mind was so tired listening to him talking, i had to take aspirin to settle my head ache. But, the son in law caught a bass. He had a wonderful afternoon. The Bass fishing world gained a new eager participant. Tomorrow, I quietly fish by myself.
No we gained 2 or more because he will take a son(s) or daughter(s) fishing who hopefully takes there’s. Also that headache may save a marriage. Some people need that time apart to be happy together. Or she may start fishing with him. And that becomes the glue that holds them together. 🙏🏼🫡appreciate taking one for the sport. I’ve done it myself so many times
I absolutely agree with last half of this, people stay wired up because their down time is spent looking into a phone, can’t even eat without it, and wonder why they never feel rested, because their mind never has chance to unwind
Tournament bass fishing is destroying fishing around the us ,targeting bass during spawning season when the bass are reacting to hormones unable to swim away from their nesting area .that is harassment .do what they do as though they care is insulting.stop all the constant threats .real anglers don’t say one thing an do something completely unacceptable.
Right real anglers are fishing for the frying pan. Not much better than to take an egg sack slice it on one side turn inside out egg&milk hot sauce seasoning and flower and fry about a minute & a half. It’s heavenly creamy and crunchy. Thank god I’m a coonass and know the truly best things in life.
Tournament fishing is business, real fishing is fun and enjoyable. Silence is a spiritual discipline that we need to practice whether we are fishing or not.
I don't know if sound matters as much as we think it does. Have you ever watched a video of Buck Perry explaining and demonstrating on how to do a complete 180 with your boat and keep your bait at the same depth and speed when you turn around working coves. It looks like just as much commotion has a great white taking a seal on top of water.
Agreed. No need for talking. If the spot is taken, and you feel the need to use your words to ask if you can join, hold your tongue instead and move along in complete silence.
The amount of people who can’t stand you but willingly watch your videos and then blame you for their response/behavior/mood is just staggering. The term “idiot” doesn’t even do them justice.
The best advice I was given as a young engineer by my mentor was “shut up and listen “…he is an extremely intelligent man…and I will never be able to thank him for that advice.
He is right about the noise. Many bass tournaments guys are loudmouth knuckleheads anyway who can't shut up no matter where they are. I work with some.
I’m a naturally quiet guy by nature (I don’t talk much) and one reason I prefer to fish alone. I like listening to the sounds of nature. I’ve caught many bass by just hearing THEM making a noise. I don’t understand guys installing high output stereo systems in their boats and blasting music while fishing
I have a loud-ish voice. my experience is just the opposite. When fishing with my old friend and main fishing buddy. We can sit hrs and not say much as soon as we start chatting seems we start getting bit. We had the boat radio on last week when I landed 3.5 lbs. blaming a co-anglers voice because you can’t catch fish just sounds like an excuse. I bet if the co-angler was not there and you got to do the day over results would have been the same. I think ignoring a co-angler just makes you seem like a jerk. I don’t think I would want a on the water lesson from a guy who said if we talk we can’t catch fish. I can’t teach without talking and I want a fishing lesson where I catch fish. Took a guided walleye trip guide talked to us the whole time everyone caught fish. It was a blast joking and laughing enjoying time on the water, also saw a giant bald eagle. I’m just saying you can try too hard and might be sacrificing meaningful moments with people in nature.
There’s a RUclips channel that set transducers at varying depths to see what kinds of sound can be heard underwater. Voices couldn’t be heard at all. Every little thump on the boat was loud. Trolling motors were loud. FFS and depth finders were sorta loud. But the voices couldn’t be heard at all. But I do agree that talking is distracting.
THANK YOU!!! My point exactly you have to be connoted to the water. Even standing in water you have to be above your belly before you can start to hear it. Anyone with a swimming pool knows that and liquid acts as a soiled and insulator also. With most things
I think it’s matter of reading the room especially in a co am event. If your boater has 19 pounds in the box he’s probably gonna be in a much talkier mood then if he has nothing. Use common sense
Experience is not always key. When you have 8lbs and have caught 10 fish. But the co angler has 14lbs and has only caught 4 fish. You should be doing some talking and ass Kissing to get some tips 😂😂😂
My favorite spot is across the street from a bar. It's always playing music, so it doesn't really matter when people talk. There's human voices there 100% of the time. It works well though because the lights from the bar make a lot of plankton.
Randy, I watch and like a majority of your videos, but I have to disagree on talking while fishing. I talk about fishing with whom is with me, because I don't fish with a lot of people. I catch more fish while talking, 8 times out of 10, I can be saying a fish is there and catch 1 on that cast, or fish should be over here and it is almost always fish there and talk the whole time and catch a lot of fish.
Go look up that one Ben Milligan I think he’s name is they hollering screaming jumping up and down in the boat. Reeling in huge fish all day long. Day after day like having 10 kids in the boat playing tackle football with a band playing catching em left and right
Way off on this one. I've had alot of great days on the water talking with my dad, brother and best friends we talk all the time. Had a 200 bass day one day on sangchris lake in ILL one time had 81 between me and my brother the first hour. Had a day with my dad on Newton lake ILL probably had 75 that day are 6 biggest weighed 36 pounds. And then there's crappie fishing. It's like walking and chewing gum at the same time. Yep I can do it. I suggest you go by yourself then you don't have to worry about it. I do both and enjoy both. Don't think it has hurt my fishing a bit but have made some great memories having discussions with alot of people in the boat. I fish with some young anglers and it's none stop questions they are eager to learn. So I respectfully disagree.
I agree 100%. I was fortunate enough to draw Denny Braur . I will bet he didn't say 50 words while we were fishing. Before and after the TX we talked a lot.
I think regular talking(not yelling) is ok banging on the boat is a no no. My great uncle who taught me how to fish trout on a stream was very very quiet, even footsteps on the bank was discouraged or shadow on water. He would whisper on bank but that’s a lot different than bass fishing from a boat.
I started bait fishing again just to get my mind to slow down. Too often I’m too concerned with catching as many big fish as possible in my limited amount of time that I don’t enjoy the process as much as I should.
I used to fish with a guy in an aluminum boat, who was constantly banging and beating on the boat. Said it attracted fish. He caught more fish than any human being I have ever known. I tend to stay quite but to this day I wonder if we've got it all wrong. This guy wore them out and made more noise than you can imagine.
Bass don't have ears, they can't hear. They are aware of their surroundings in two ways. Sight and what they feel through their lateral line. They can't hear you talking in any way, shape, or form. I've had days when I've hammered them while talking and with my dog in the boat barking.
I tell my kid this all the time, he likes to chat it up. I thought this was going to be about not telling people about your best fishing spots, I’m guilty of that.
I will gladly do a video proving that noise and talking and music actually attracts the fish. This is laughable. Maybe less than 5 / 10% of the time sound may matter. Very very deep winter fishing when fish are shallow or your fishing directly on top of them.
I fish by myself a lot. If I do go with a buddy, it's usually wading or kayaking the river. Generally, they go one way and they go another. Then again, I'm not a pro. I wouldn't be a pro. Why would anyone want to feel pressure, when the whole exercise is for the pleasure of relating to nature and yourself.
GROWING A PAIR REALLY THAT HARD FOR YOU!!! Tell her to!! If she doesn’t tell her next time you go fishing when you get home. Easy dun what she going to do devours you over it.
When I go fishin with somebody I’m not gonna sit there and not talk at all, that takes all the fun out of goin fishin, and believe it or not we still have really good days sometimes!… somehow 🤷🏼♂️
Randy I agree with most stuff. But just because you can’t do more than one thing at a time doesn’t mean others can’t. I’m just a dum ol coonass welder but I can be welding out spools haven a conversation with someone on the phone with er buds telling my helper up or down on my heat watching and understanding what’s coming up. But in my head I’m in the duck blind catching slaps and shooting ducks in the face remembering a time where wen I was a kid in the fab shop with dad and the hired arms bull shitting and talking about whatever. That’s why you spend money on good equipment the right rod and line is like not having water the picture of what’s going down is so clean and clear
Randy, I watch nearly every episode. I agree with your opinion on things about 95%. On the “talker” issue… Right On Man! You CANNOT fish to the best of your ability when you are distracted. PERIOD!

Well-stated, Randy…and it all dovetails well with the fact that angling truly is the "contemplative man’s recreation," as Izaak Walton famously referred to it. 🎣
So, being quite is important to you! Then why do you use an electric steer trolling motor? You can hear the whining of the servo motor every time you use it to steer the boat. I now stay well off from shore before I deploy the motor.
WRONG COME TO SOUTH LOUISIANA AND GO BOW FISHING WITH US AT NIGHT!!! Running a trolling motor 😂😂 we have a generator running on deck and pass big bass every night. They don’t swim until the boat is about to go go over them and then they only go about 10’ to 20’ stop and turn around and start slowly going back to there spot before the boat is even past em.

I like to talk to God when I'm fishing. Lost loved ones and soaking up the sunrise. Sorry Randy. I like my way better!
I like how you do.
Q: _"talk to God"_ ... aloud?
That's why I love fishing from a kayak.. Almost total silence !!!
Been thinking about getting a yak, that’s another good reason to get one. Black Friday getting myself a yak👍
I'm with you on the truck radio . I run a table saw all day . When I get in my truck I just want silence .

Sometimes fishing docks, I have noticed making extra splashing noises attract fish.
Maybe due to owner of dock feeding fish
Very much aware of it. Thanks for reminding everyone.

So Im just trying to get past the thought of 60 or 70 boats blasting off on tournament day roaring down the lake as peaceful.
In a small one. More like 100 to 300 boats in big tournaments.
I call bs, I have caught many bass while talking and fishing, also therapeutic side of it talking can be just as well while talking.
