It's February 10th, 2011, and it's a big day down at the Brooklyn Roundhouse/yard. All the equipment outside of the roundhouse must be moved, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe (along with a Union Pacific pilot) is here with their EMD SW1000 to move the historic rail equipment over to the new storage space in Northwest Portland.
After being four hours on the job, the switch crew finally gets the 'OK' to run light power over to Brooklyn yard with BNSF 3613 to grab this historic Hospital Train. The hospital train included DLMX 644 (EMD SDP40F), DLMX 231 (EMD F40PHR), Ice Lake passenger car, two ex-Shasta Daylight baggage cars, DLMX 866 (ALCO FA-1), the Clackamas River passenger car, and more.
Yes, I'm sure you'll notice that huge increase considering each stack train is worth about $1 mil. in shipping. you would probably make about half of a cent, if that.
they are now restoring a former shasta coach "Stanislaus" #2395
I believe that they could probably shoot shrapnel for several blocks, but completely "level"? That I find hard to believe. Maybe if they were all poorly built, relatively small buildings that were not up to code in the first place.
They had to be moved due to the Brooklyn Street Roundhouse being demolished. The #644 and #231 were vandalized in 2013 and they had to leave Oregon. Nowadays as of 2023, BNSF #3613 has been preserved, #644 is operational as #6976 and Amtrak #231 is undergoing operational repairs.
@otef434 Dude, I seriously don't understand you. You want them to take money away from a non for profit organization because they have some equipment mainted in the SP. I don't even think they have the right to do that since ORHF is not selling their logos for money. You really think $50,000 even $100,000 is much compared to how much they make yearly? Wow...
you can see the Cascade Green showning thru & BN lettering XD
@4449steam are they going to keep it outside or find a place to keep it indoors so it doesn't start rusting away?
Oh dear, that's egregious.
3:30 - 4:07. An old hospital train making squeaking sounds would be great sounds to record for a scene of a horror film.
So, I assume there not enough money to build a new roundhouse quite yet isn't there? So everything for the most part is being stored over by Lake Yard? Do you guys know how long It will be stored there? Kinda sad, but better then being scraped!!!
are the steam engines and everything else staying in the roundhouse until the end of the year
where are they going to store the stuff for the time beeing?
Awesome!!
So why were these pieces of equipment moved? Are they vacating the Brookyln round house?
Alex
Does anyone know where this equipment went? Besides the F40PH and the 644, none of the equipment has had any recent photos, and isn't at the ORHC.
They're still in the same place.
4449steam Ok thanks. So is the siding near the ORHC?
its so sad i went there back in 2008 and why are they demolishing the roundhouse anyways
@Polybun Like you said, "...crew error..." it can happen with anything besides a steam engine. :)
Cool mearsk unit
Dude the FA-1 was made by ALCO!
Is this going to be the new location for all of the equipment or is it just temporary?
no the equipment is scattered all over the place
the sleeper is out of service do to vandalization
the up car is owned by the PRPX and is in the prosses of being secured
the great northern car was sold to private ownership
the locomotives are in Nevada I believe
I haven't the slightest clue what happened to the rest

The Daylight painted sleeper is scheduled to be scrapped.
The UP painted baggage car has been sold to private interests out of state.
The UP painted tank car has been scrapped.
The old ALCO FA-1 is SP&S 866, which is going to be moved to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center (ORHC) in Portland.
The Willamette and Pacific tank car has been scrapped.
DLMX # 5000 and DLMX # 5001, the two old SP Shasta Daylight RPO cars are going to be scrapped.
The Empire Builder painted coach car PRPX # 1130 "Ice Lake" has been sold to private interests out of state.
The Daylight painted F40PHR is originally Amtrak # 231 (now Dynamic Rail Preservation 231) has been sold to the Nevada State Railroad Museum (NSRM) near Carson City, Nevada, which is undergoing restoration to operational condition there.
The SDP40F-2 on the rear was originally Amtrak 644, later Santa Fe 5266/ BNSF 6976 (now Dynamic Rail Preservation 644), has returned to operational condition at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (NSRM) near Carson City Nevada.
BNSF EMD SW1000 # 3613 (ex BN # 388) on the head end leading the train, has been donated to the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation (ORHF) in Portland.
There is another video where they're removed to be rebuilt.
Why are windows boarded?
to keep bandits from bashing the windows and stealing the number boards. Brooklyn Yard is in Crip Territory and both the Bloods and the Crips operate in Portland and vandalize equipment around the Brooklyn yards.
Aaron Peavler/Geomodelrailroader Railroad Photography West side blood gang bitch! (I am also a railfan)
Can't they be killed?
Hmmm, that just might be a little bit of an over exaggeration...
@4449steam EMD rocks!
That is the plan at some point in the future.
Just sad I mean that is a fa1 and I would be happy if the orhf would paint it back to its original colors
What's a hospital train broken train cars??
Amtrak Lover Retired locomotives. Destroyed cars. Ex Amtrak SDP40F, Ex Amtrak F40PHR.
was that their final resting place?
Sweet Video!
How is this a hospital train?
Typically it is a group of equipment operating on an FRA waiver. There generally will be a train order restricting the speed of the train with the "sick equipment", and will be accompanied by Mechanical Department (Carmen) representatives to supervise the movement of the non-compliant consist, thus the hospital train name.
Well, BN HAD to make this move.
@AMH9217 Or for the new construction to the round house???
Hey, nice music choice! The video started and I thought "how'd I just turn on my Steven Wilson music?" Didn't expect to hear it elsewhere
nice:)
@AMH9217 Correction* ( ANYTHING can spontaneously explode when...)
days after this video was made the Bloods broke into the siding by the museum and vandalized the locomotives. They were moved to Utah for refurbishment and not they are in jeopardy.
@4449steam why not, it would be a nice profit center for my stocks. It's their trademarks, not yours.
INCREIBLE MOVILIZANDO UN HOSPITAL
@4449steam I have no idea who or what an ORHF is, but they are like every other organization using a a trademarked scheme or likeness. Don't you think the owner of that has a right to be compensated?
@4449steam Ah well everyone makes mistakes.
@CoasterFan2105 It's their property, so why not make it another profit center? So long as it boosts my stock's value, I don't care where it comes from.
Would have been a lot better without the God awful music.
MrCzechers
BNSF always gets the job done
@Polybun I honestly don't mind if you ask me. :) It's nothing more then some letters that make up a sound. It makes no sense to charge a (non-profit) organization for a name on the side of a box car on display 95-99.9% of the time. And there are (trained) engineers out there who know boilers. They won't (PASS) a boiler test if its not safe for operations. I don't know how much you know about trains and there equipment, but for starts, you shouldn't comment on something YOUR not educated in. :)
@4449steam AHH! Okay! Can the public donate $ to ORHF???
@Polybun The fact of the matter is LOGIC. :) So, lets be straight here shall we? If a boiler can explode, (due too high pressure, or safty valves don't give, ect) so can a diesel locomotive. A SD40-2, GP38-2, a Dash 9, a SD70MAC, a ES44AC, even a SD70ACe. ANYTHING can be spontaneously explode when you look at the big picture. So, once again, PLEASE, I ask of you to not comment on these types of things until you become MORE educated in these areas. :)
Now how many diesel engine have you seen explode?
@AMH9217 I am so shocked that out of over 10,000 words, that is all you can muster. I bet you know how to better express yourself.
@joshandkorinna Naw, that aint gonna happen. Last I looked, my investments are pretty secure. If it were a logo I owned, I would absolutely make sure it's appearance is appropriate and consistent with the image I wish it to project.
And if I were a D****, which I am not, don't you think I would use worse language than you have summoned up?
ok
UP should charge them $10,000 per year for every car and loco with UP and SP deisgns/logos on them as license fees.
