No ... this is why RV campers should be responsible when camping next to someone who is so close together. They weren't, and they paid the price for being irresponsible enough to leave a space heater on with their dogs locked inside the camper and them gone.
I was walking around a campground recently and the thought of rv fires hit my brain. I started looking for fire hydrants and realized there were none. In fact, I couldn't find one within a half mile of the campground. Come to think of it, I don't know if I have ever seen a fire hydrant in a campground. Wouldn't it make sense to have some in a campground so that the fire fighters have enough water in case a couple of units are on fire. In the campground I was in, there was enough brush, dead leaves, and close proximity of one unit to another that by the time the fire department could get there, one fire would easily turn into 3.
The fire department employs water trucks when fire hydrents are not available, which hold more than enough water to put out an RV fire, as was demonstrated in this video.
The police were there to make sure no laws were broken. Their dogs died because of their neglagence. So ... they may or may not file charges. I have no way of knowing if they did because I no longer live there.
They did it to keep their dogs warm. We had some cold weatherr that day. Trouble is they locked the door and no one could get the dogs out. KOA did comp them with a free cabin to stay at for a fews days until they could work things out. Also KOA took up donations for them. What isn't shown is that the camper next to them had his van burn up with thousands of dollars worth of tools.
Unfortunately, the water pressure in the park was too low to even put a dent in getting that raging fire under control, never mind putting it out. We tried to move it, but one of the tires was flat and it would not budge up hill, which is the only direction we could move it. There was also the danger of exploding propane tanks which kept us at a distance.
As tragic as this was it was educational now I’m Leary of leaving ac. O while I’m out , I read owners manual it says turn of power at the stand when Rv is unattended
I also turn off the city water (even fresh water) as well as the propane (if connected to 30amp power, which will keep the frigde going). Oh and don't forghet to retract the awning if leaving the RV.
Considering that an RV will burn to the ground in a matter of minutes I would say the odds of doing that are not in your favor. Why risk your vehicle burning up too..@@thewishmastur
Could see early on the van next to them catching fire! Scary to think someone could have been sleeping in there. Took a while before any attention was paid to it.
Sorry to hear that! That van didn't have to catch fire at all! Obviously nobody was there who could move it, but they could have squirted water on it sooner. But that may not have saved the dogs with all that smoke. Sad.@@garagemahaulinrvlife6505
Boy those firemen sure didn’t look like they knew what they were doing. Really no sense of urgency. Sure it’s a total loss as soon as it started but still.
Do you think you could’ve made the video any longer and just looking at the sky in the trees and nothing? This thing should’ve been five times as long as it was.
KOA hired a company to take care of that. They got a discount because all that was left after the fire was sold as junk. I made a video of the crew that did the work. It didn't take them long to clean up the site. Check it out.
RV insurance is based on the age of the RV. In this case, thier RV was older than the threshold would allow to be insured. So be aware of the age of your RV (If you have One) and its age and if you are able to secure insurance. Usually, the older the RV, the less likely you can insure it. In this case, thier RV was uninsureable because of its age. So they had no insurance.
Hey, I think we need another 20 guys fireman hang out coming to the same so we can have them all wandering around, wondering what to do, and even the chief that dressed in the white shirt doesn’t even know how to put the hoses together Lord have mercy where they all come from the red Green show Lord have mercy what a pork skewers for fire department
Keep in mind how quickly an RV can go up in smoke (like in a minute flat), and there were several RVs within feet of the one that was on fire. They were all there just in case the fire started to spred to the other RVs.

This is so scary for us RVers. Praying for this family.
On my first Rv camping trip I included a fire extinguisher outside next to my camper several people asked me why
Prayers to that family

Sad. Losing a family member (dog/cat) is difficult enough as it is but this way is horrible.
The cops watching them like a hawk, why?
Yes very sad

@@garagemahaulinrvlife6505 ...The guys are full time RVer?
Did they ever find out what caused the fire? A space heater?
Yes. It was a space heater they left on.
@@garagemahaulinrvlife6505 ... Does space heater not turn off by itself if tipped over?
So sad! We were there in early June. Cannot imagine.
Would leaving the door unlocked when you are not in the RV have made a difference for those dogs?
Yes.
So sorry for their lost .
There were dogs inside the van?
Yes. Two dogs in fact.
I’m so upset at this idiot leaving his space heater on and killing the pets. Would he/she been in trouble had that been a human? Can’t watch it.

Va. Used to be strict on Vehicle Inspection . Wondering if RV & Camper's are Inspected ?
They're supposed to be done annually minimum, but not everyone gets their RV inspected.
CAMP GROUNDS SHOULD HAVE A LARGE WATER PUMP AND HOSE BECAUSE THERE SO REMOTE
That is the problem, them being remote.
Poor dog sorry for your loss in your camper
It was not my camper, but a neighbor's across the road from my camper..
Shame rhe other rig wasn't moved before it went on fire too..
Also, everyone was hooked up to water with a hose- one guy used the hose.

@@garagemahaulinrvlife6505 ...if your trailer is next to the burning trailer will you have enough time to hitch your trailer and pull out of the spot?

Considering that when a fire starts, RVs will be consumed in flames in under 3 minutes, that would not be possible.
Holy Wah hey, holy cow!!

The ugly side of Do it yourself Solar.!!🤔

Well, to put it into perspective, this is what they do for a living. You see one fire, you've seen them all.
Also, incredibly bad parenting to imprint the baby with "fun" connected to sirens, fire & mayhem, by swinging her around and cooing in that situation.
:( I am so sorry

I leave my camper unlocked and let the people next to me know to get my dogs out.
