I find it interesting that Anthony and kates story was a enemies to lovers trope. I just realized that the author knew what she was doing by making him so unlikeable to the readers that we ourselves find our own enemies to lovers story with his character. Just like Kate, we didn’t like his character and then boom 💥 look at us in love with him 🤯🤯😩😩

Hi! I just read the first three books. I'm on the fourth book and I love the second book (The Viscount Who Loved Me) the most. I really love Kanthony. My perception of Anthony from the 1st season of the show changed when I read the second book. I love how Kate affected Anthony's life. He is a great lover, though he was a rake before . Their story is really funny and romantic. Though it may seemed to be a forced marriage, but the idea of the two of them getting attached to each other, resulted for their marriage anyway haha. An Offer From A Gentleman is kind of realistic for me. Both of them are aware of their situation and it's just too painful to even think about it. I feel like Sophie overshined Benedict, but I believe it's a part to bring the utmost core of their love story. Anyway, I am so far loving all the series.

Finally, a Bridgeton book ranking that puts Eloise’s story close to the top! It is close to, if not my favourite of the series. The depth of Sir Phillip’s internal struggle and brave, bolshy Eloise not afraid to take a hard road in the relationship sense. This book is often maligned and I’m so glad to hear a review which sees the depth and resonance of the book. Big thumbs up from a viewer in Australia 🇦🇺!

    My ranking:
1 Romancing mr Bridgerton, I love Colin he’s my favorite Bridgerton him and Hyacinth.
2 The Viscount who loved me
    3 It’s in his kiss.
    4When he was wicked.
5 On the way to the weeding
6 An offer from a gentleman
    7 The Duke and I
8 To Sir Phillip with love.

This is my ranking from fave to least fave:
    An Offer from a Gentleman
    To Sir Phillip, with Love
    When he was Wicked
On the Way to the Wedding
    The Viscount Who Loved Me
    It's in His Kiss
    The Duke and I
    Romancing Mr. Bridgerton
But this was months ago and I haven't reread any of these books except maybe AOFG. I'm pretty sure of my top 3 and last 2. It's the mid that gets mushy.
I have since read 4 other books by JQ but then discovered Lisa Kleypas who is by far my favorite Historical Romance Author now. I read practically her whole library of HR except maybe a few handful of her earlier books. I read 30 books by LK since I started reading HR in Feb 2021. That's how obsessed I was (still kinda am)
If you are a HR fan, I suggest you read her books. I suggest the series
    1. Gamblers
    2. Wallflowers
    3. Hathaways
    4. Ravenels
(in that order guys cause this is one big universe with a timeline).

    6. On The Way to A Wedding
    7. The Viscount Who Loved Me ( I loved this story but I had to go over it a few times )

I am about to start Hyacinth’s story and then Gregory’s so I haven’t finished completely but I finished Francesca’s book this morning. So far...
    1. Anthony
    2. Benedict
    3. Francesca
    4. Daphne
    5. Eloise
    6. Colin
But even that hurt bc I love Eloise like you do but I LOVE Kate!

To me my favorite books and my favorite general storylines didn’t necessarily overlap. Like Benedict’s is one of the most basic storyline because of it being essentially Cinderella, which is not my favorite plot, but I much preferred it to better plots like Eloise because I guess I just enjoyed the characters and their love story more? I’m not necessarily sure. I love that you were able to rank all of them so neatly, but unfortunately I had to break them up into quite a few different ranking systems to fully capture how I felt. My rankings are below:
So, after 8 books and some thought, my rankings are as follows.
    Best overall book:
    Francesca
    Benedict
    Anthony
    Colin
    Daphne
    Hyacinth
    Eloise
    Gregory
    Favorite sibling
    1. Gregory cause I love the true romantic
    2. Benedict
    3. Hyacinth
    4. Colin
    5. Anthony
    6. Eloise
    7. Daphne
    8. Francesca
    Favorite partner:
    1. Gareth(hyacinth)
    2. Michael(Francesca)
    3. Sophie(Benedict)
    4. Kate(Anthony)
    5. Penelope(Colin)
    6. Simon(daphne)
    7. Phillip(Eloise)
    8. Lucy(Gregory)
    Best story depth:
    Eloise
    Francesca
    Gregory
    Hyacinth
    Anthony
    Daphne
    Colin
    Benedict

    My (very unpopular) ranking:
    (1) *On The Way to the Wedding* - The least steamy and the most romantic (imo). The least toxic male lead of them all. I love this book. Unpopular opinion, I know. (4.5/5)
    (2) *When He Was Wicked* - I think the concept is more interesting than the book so it charts here for potential. Kind of weird of me having the least steamy book as #1 and then the most steamy at #2 lol. I know not a lot of people rank it at the top, it's usually 4-8 for people (3.5/5)
    (3) *Romancing Mr Bridgerton*, *The Duke and I*, and *The Viscount Who Loved Me* - The Duke and I and The Viscount Who Loved Me are the same book. Usually they chart as 8 and 1 (respectively) which I find weird because they're the exact same book. Romancing Mr Bridgerton had potential but it let me down. (3/5)
    (4) *An Offer From A Gentleman* - Didn't like the Cinderella thing going on in the beginning. Did not like Benedict trying to coerce Sophie into being his mistress after she said no and explained why. I did not like Benedict blackmailing Sophie. (2/5)
    (5) *It's In His Kiss* - It says #5 but I think #4 is a two-way tie with AOFAG and IIHK. Did not like Gareth using sex to ensure that Hyacinth would still marry him if his secret were to come out before the wedding. WHWW had the same thing going on but, hey, it charted so high for me due to its potential more than the story. (2/5)
    (6) *To Sir Phillip, With Love* - Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. Bad male lead and underdeveloped relationship. Ew. (0/5)

I don't think your favorite is an unpopular opinion! I think in general that one is kind of looked to as the best by a lot of readers. My favorites are Anthony's, Benedict's, and Hyacinth's. My unpopular opinion is I just didn't really like To Sir Phillip, With Love, It is hard to explain why for me, but I just did not like Sir Phillip which I think really made the story hard for me to get into. I just felt like it wasn't the story I expected for Eloise. I felt like she kind of settled if that makes sense? Anyway, just my opinion. I loved hearing your thoughts! It is so fun to talk about books. :)

***BOOK SPOILER***I've been listening to the audiobooks. I listened to them out of order though (so far 2,5,6,1) not sure why... lol. I'm going to listen to 3,4,7 eventually. I just listened to The Duke And I in Audiobook for the first time. I honestly liked Daphne and Simon in the books better. I liked that Daphne instead of being popular she kept being friend-zoned. I also liked that Simon wasn't an a-hole, he was serious because he had a stutter and preferred to stay quiet, even as an adult.

Sir Phillip is actually in seasons 1 and 2… he is the one who married Ms. Thompson after his brother died in the war. I like that they introduced him this early on! When he spoke to Collin about Botany I was like ooh.
This means she will end up committing suicide?
In To Sir Phillip, she is mentioned briefly but in the series they’ve given her back story more depth.

I read my first romance at 12 (now 57) and been a romance junkie since (also like other genres).
Read the Bridgerton series years ago and it is hard to put them in a special order, but I think I liked Francesca's book the best, then Anthony's.
Loved that you saw the similarities to Shakespeare, too.
"The Taming Of The Shrew" is my favourite Shakespeare piece, which is Kate and Anthony's story.
And yes, I definitely got "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (my second favourite) vibes reading Gregory's story.
Liked the second Netflix show, but was very disappointed that they changed so much.

    2. Romancing Mr. Bridgerton (We all love Collin and Penelope their bond here was more shown than the one's they have in the series)
    3. The Viscount Who Loved Me (This is so good it's action packed like On the Way To the Wedding hate the fact this book didn't need any alteration then netflix proceeded to alter a lot of events they didn't even show the part when Kate and Anthony chased Newton that was one of the most action packed scenes and the series should have followed season 1's formula they should have shown what happened after they were married instead of that being the end since that's what happened most in the books their marriages are shown and their problems too and how they solve it together just like Daphne and Simon in season 1.
    4. The Duke And I (Not the most action packed but it's overall a good read.)
    5. It's in His Kiss (I didn't like the fact that Gareth looked like he is just using Hyacinth's innocence.)
    6. To Sir Philip with Love
    (Spoiler Alert!)
(Chemistry left them both, this book was a let down Eloise looks like she was just carried away with loneliness and didn't have any choice but to marry Philip since in their time you can't get to know someone by being alone with them and expect not to be married to them, she literally just married because she felt left out with her siblings and Penelope, while Philip is a major red flag he only married Eloise because she was willing to make it work, she was a pretty face and he needed a mother for his children because he didn't know or tried harder to become a good father to them, he kept saying he tried his best with Marina, geez he didn't even try to communicate with her why she was gloomy he could have asked her if she even wanted to become a mother since I suspected Marina didn't want motherhood.

I think it is heavily implied that Marina was always kind of depressed and that it got worse after the birth of the twins. Maybe postpartum depression on top of her general lack of life affirmation.
I think one cannot fault Philip for his marriage with Marina and their interactions, but he's a horrible father and I didn't get his connection to Eloise, or either: I get why he liked her, I just don't think I understand why she likes him. She vibes more with the twins .... Also I hate that her marriage is practically clear from the get go, because she forgot about the chaperone? 🙄

I’ve heard so many sides on hyacinths - people either love it or hate it. When I look online, her and Gregory’s are always available compared to how the others are snatched up right away.
    Sharing my definitive ranking :3
    1) The Viscount and I (heard everyone loved it and oh my! Huhu)
    2) An offer from a gentleman (the way the story is I can imagine it’ll be such a fun show, also like how it took place in different locations than just London)
    3) to sir Phillip with love (first of the series I read - altho seeing people’s POV on Eloise, I hope they change some up for the adaptation)
    4) romancing mister bridgerton (you got it right - not much “romance”)
    5) the duke and I (despite it being the most coveted book - its eh haha it’s alright)
    6) when he was wicked
Haven’t read the last 2 yet - not planning to but I might read hyacinths in the future if ever

I read all of them last summer and The Viscount Who Loved Me is most definitely my most favorite. Target came out with a special edition that has such a beautiful cover and I just had to have it... and a new copy gives me a reason to re-read it :)
