    I just discovered this music last night! I'm 71 yrs old and live in Tennessee in the US, yet I relate to the music & humor without even understanding the language. 😊.

    Gentlemen! Thank you SO MUCH for this thoughtful interview. I found Otava Yo some time back by chance, and they have helped me through the agonizing period of Plague and Tyranny I have ever experienced. Bit of history: I'm 78 years old, was Civil Rights activist in the 1960s, also anti-war worker....as I grow older I feel closer to my own ancestry which is Balkan and Russian, and I've wept (often with joy) over this beautiful music. Alexei's revelations were a great enhancement. Thank you.

    Thank you guys for a great interview, and thank you Alexey for your wisdom. I think Otava Yo have been the perfect lockdown antidote, breathing some genuine fresh air into our stifled, stultified lives. Their videos are spectacularly good; they are never stupidly nostalgic- watch the exquisite Maidens Have Sown The Flax: it never pretends not to be in the present, but it shows an appreciation of a simpler way of having fun. The joy in Streetcleaner, Cat and What Are Those For Songs is infectious. The sweetness of Oh Dusya My Marusya and Ivan The Crayfish is sublime and never, ever saccharin. One final point: when our so-called leaders are becoming bellicose and xenophobic, isn't it wonderful that we can enjoy this music regardless of nationality, irrespective of borders? (thanks internet!) There are no boundaries when it comes to the human spirit. I think Otava Yo might just be the vaccine we've all been looking for.

    Hey guys. Good to see this interview with Alexey. I discovered this band about a year ago..been following them ever since..I'm actually annoyed that I didn't discover them a long time ago..but better late than never. Indeed,they do some excellent video and do great work in keeping folk music alive and kicking. They always come up with fresh idea's and every song is a winner. It's another example of the fact that when you get that special combination of people..the hits just keep coming.

    Their music has original soul. The religion and music and meaning from the past. My grandfather's family was from Belarus. We lost it. They show us what we had back there before we came here and became shoppers.

  • @spinkyl9559

    Speaking for myself, I connect with this band because they are living in their original homelands and expressing their culture or music of other original cultures. Most North Americans have forgotten their original cultures and replaced it with ultra materialism. Everyone has an abundance of plastic objects and no meaning in life. The meaning in life is in nature, in music, in food, in building homes to live in and gardens and canning the food and chopping firewood. And this band shows us what our ancestors' lives were probably like 100years ago. As a kid I remember really longing to go far enough away from cities that there would be no fences. And in their videos, I especially loved Alexey's dad's house. That was sort of similar to my parents summer cabin. Wood stove cooked better food than any electric stove. Those were good times.

      What you described in North America is not nearly as ubiquitous as you might think.

    • @spinkyl9559
      @spinkyl9559 3 года назад +1

      @@unnecessaryapostrophe4047 I know no one who has retained any of their original culture. Maybe recent immigrants do, but mine were here 150 years ago or more. And the dominant culture here now is corporate culture. Just saying. The movies, news, music, all from Hollywood is just materialist consumerism. That pretty much makes corporate consumerism ubiquitous. Those who have retained their original cultures are definitely the less mainstream.

    I love the music and the videos of the countryside, the family scenes, the villages that don't have paved roads and 5g. I would love to go to a place like that to live for a year or two. To be away from all high technology. To have a wood fired stove like my parents had when I was a kid. To fish in a stream and pick mushrooms and berries and have a garden and play music. That would be the best life.

    great interview and your questions really brought out the minds behind the music. I have been introducing friends to their music for a couple of years....first response, why should I listen to Russia. hippies and about a week later they're hooked. Great melodies for electric mandolin too... even if my neighbours don't agree. Thanks for this, Stefan

    Hello from America North Carolina! I’m so happy to watch this interview. I can hear the passion in Alexey’s voice! I think all bands should focus on having fun, instead of worrying about popularity like most do! I appreciate this video and now I’m able to understand the band and their motivation even more ☺️ I’ve been a fan of отава ё for 4 years now, they helped me love the Russian culture. I cannot wait to see what they do next! 💜
