Better find a condo with 2 bedrooms or Ask your Filipino friend to contact the owner of the house and ask how much the rent before you show up in their place because if they see you that you are foreigner they make the rent more higher.

I hope you guys have good news to share. I remember I was a year homeless couch surfing in Massachusetts before I moved to Florida. I had pretty much no choice to move because everywhere I had to stay I had stayed until people got fed up. I even had to go through cervical cancer removal and heal- the doc knew my situation and wouldn't do a procedure if I didn't have somewhere sanitary and safe to stay, so my long time friend helped me out as long as he could. But at least I didn't have to let my health be compromised due to my living status. That was about 5 years ago and I'm cancer free, it still could come back but I'm glad I'm cancer free right now.

@Khelisie Salvatore we are happy you are 5 years well, too! That is usually the golden number, God bless you, K, you made it, though it is difficult to hear what a stressful path you had. Everyone deserves love & support when fighting cancer. I’m glad you had wonderful friends, & were never living in your car or on the street. But I know (from long ago personal experience) that whatever “level” homelessness is always awful.

I would go to the local bank and see if they have any houses that are empty that people foreclosed on that they might want to rent out. That’s how we found a place up in Pangasinan we rented directly from PNB bank.

That fully furnished house was very nice. Hope the owner decides to take your offer. My wife and I feel completely embarassed showing that unfinished apartment to you guys, but that is what I complained about in one of your other videos. You tell people what you want and it seems like they don't hear you and say "no problem" then they show you something completely opposite of what you want. I tell them at least 2 bedrooms and fully furnished and they show us a 2 room ( literally only 2 rooms) and instead of furnished it is unfinished. Absolutely amazing. Anyway hopefully you get that fully furnished house. It looks amazing.

Keep searching! It looks like some of the houses are getting to be better. Unfortunately, it looks like you may have to be willing to pay a higher deposit or rent to get what you want. Too bad you couldn't write a lease that allows you to get out of the contract and return your deposit early if the renter fails to do required maintenace and/or rodent/insect remediation.

It's not that I want to discourage you from renting this house but if you think grills on the windows will stop burglars from breaking in your house, all they need is a car jack to bust open those grills. I know because that's exactly what the burglars used to break into our house when we were still living in the Philippines. The fact that you often leave for days to visit other parts of the Philippines and post it on RUclips, that would give burglars the opportunity to know when they can break into your house. I understand you're on a budget and you can only choose what is within your budget. Since this house is not in a gated community, it would be best if you can hire house sitters to stay at your house when you're away. Security cameras don't stop burglars.

Something I noticed when renting an apartment in Spain was the lack of electrical outlets. Being from the US, I was accustomed to two outlets on almost every wall, my European apartment had one outlet per room. After that, I counted outlets whenever I was looking for an apartment.

I’m only to the time in the video with appearance of NEB! Yay! But already giving my two cents that despite the first potential disappointment, it may have been more noisy than usual so close to the barangay hall. & Michael was correct imo that the window set up would allow air con flow out, though it is a pleasant appearing set up for windows, not too practical if one needs/prefers air con & for the mosquito sceeening due to DB’s skeeter sensitivity. I am suffering currently with that, terrible season in US, one of worst mosquito seasons per DNR. I’m like D, the bite stays red, inflamed & itchy for like a week! Or more. Then for me I get left with a scar. It’s no joke. But to screen all those windows would be kinda a hassle, so that’s for the best. Disappointing though, that first rental looked so new.

It beggars belief that the roads are neglected in a lot of subdivisions in the Philippines. The roads are bumpy and there are a lot of potholes everywhere. They need to pay attention to the streets as well.

5000 pesos per month for electricity is quite dear compared to our electric bill in mindoro 3000 pesos per month maximum even with aircon running allday and the lowest at less than 1000 pesos per month sounds to me that iloilo is very expensive in rent and electricity

The owner of the 2nd house should have cleaned the house first before showing it to the possible renters.
I am also a landlord and I would always clean my flat before having people see it.
It is not even that old yet but it could have been more maintained.
The 3rd one is really dated and it is not nice to have a toilet just near the dining room that even has an open door. It's quite disgusting when you can smell something foul when you are eating.
It seems quite hard to find a nice place. Why don't you guys just rent a condo ? It's more new, it's cleaner and very convenient as it's near everything plus better for a couple without kids

Iloilo is really a nice city but it really does lack western style housing amenities, condos are quite small, and the related utilities are like commercial rates compared to single family residential housing.

The windows are old timey type. Not only will you need to worry about loss of air conditioned air through the multiple cracks in the windows, but those are really hard to clean in terms of time required … have to clean each small pane, top and bottom.

There are diy ways to seal the window panes, but will need a mossie screen on the outside.
narrow strips of foam or felt or silicone/rubber tubes, to create a seal

Two of my high school acquaintances met each other years after graduation. Upon one meeting the others now homely wife, he said to his friend, “if I didn’t see it, I wouldn’t believe it”. This is what I think of when seeing what you’re looking at there. Those dwellings are so hideous and ugly, not to mention the awful surroundings. I’d be so embarrassed to invite my western friends or family to visit me in one of those holes. They’d think I’d fallen so far and low in life that im forced to live in a ghetto surrounded by rural poverty. Those dilapidated cement coffins aren’t worth a quarter of what they’re asking for. Run guys. Find something pleasant and at least half civilized around Manila
