True. He was same with Nomzamo Mbatha of Coming To America fame
True, i saw that
"it stop being an African American story and became a story about an African in America". Beautiful description of our truth
Because most AA are not interested in knowing about their history, there is an African proverb that says if you don’t know where you came from you will never know where you are going
@@tapsirusaccoh67 that is not true at all. African Americans are very interested in learning our history, but there are obvious barriers you are not accounting for. We are taught the oral history of our people after we descended from slaves & many of us migrated North, bc our history was lost, beaten out of us, and never written down. The AA experience is barely recorded in US textbooks, you know for sure African history wasn’t taught to us, either. It was imperative for our subjugation that the history was stolen and hidden from us.
Have some perspective.
@@tapsirusaccoh67 false. African Americans are interested in learning our history. We literally have fought for the right for education and die for it. Ok n America, there are obstacles that slowly get broken. As we learn, we teach. If you have something you've learned about our history, TEACH it. All ears here. And guess what?... We have the same proverb/saying here. That's what leads us to push for our history and education to be taught by our faces.
Education has always been at the top of the black agenda.
@SoRaya Most enslaved Africans were captured/kidnapped by white people, not sold by other Africans. Please get it right.
@@tapsirusaccoh67 That's not accurate. Many African Americans want to know their history, but don't have access to it. And if you've been cut off for generations, where exactly do you start? I hate when people are derisive of AA, saying they don't want to know their history. Also, African American history is valid as well. AA;s have their own histories about the South, or about the Blues or African American folklore etc. African Americans are essentially just another branch of the African tree, and their own 'tribe' or community so to speak. They went through the middle passage, slavery and continue to fight for survival even today. Really, African Americans don't get the respect they deserve. It's such a shame.
Congratulations Thuso Mbedu, we are so very proud of you and to watch Trevor interviewing you is a cherry on top. Yaaaaasss...💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I remember seeing Thuso on Is'thunzi and I thought : This girl is world-class. Congrats to this very beautiful, talented , intelligent and articulate young woman.
I know a Ayanda Ngcobo from Durban 🤗
To all the people making noise about the accent. She's an actress and I think she's trying to train herself to get used to it because when she auditions for American movies or series she has to totally sound American and not slip up. Her next employers might even be watching this interview so they have to know she is capable.
Louder for the people at the back! Thank you
THAT IS SAD. South African accent is way more pleasant.
@@rollingmetal949 bro keep your African heritage to yourself if it's so frail🤦🏾♂️ talking isn't all there is to being African
@John Clarke she’s not British. She’s South African. You mean all the African American & British figures who’ve played Mandela, Winnie, Steve Biko “, etc were culturally appropriating?
@@rollingmetal949 but she’s been immersing herself in this character for close to a year been living over there for over 2 years & works with American people & she has to fit in & be understood without repeating herself. Even Charlize sounds completely American now. It works for getting American acting parts!
Sooo proud and happy for a fellow South African🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦 Go girl💃🏽
"ukuthi babes" got me in my feels 😊😊
It's South Africa shining on GLOBAL platforms for me......man we are truly OUR ANCESTORS' WILDEST DREAMS!

I had to wake up and watch this interview as a South African 🇿🇦🇿🇦
I'm on episode 9 of The Underground Railroad and I've been completely captivated and emotionally invested at every level with every episode.
Love the show! Love Thuso Mbedu!
I cried and screamed at the same time 😭😭😭Something happened in me it's like I was keeping it all in for the first 8 episodes and something just exploded 😭
Yes me too it instantly drew me in I finished it in one setting
Reading the book now, can’t wait to see the series!
We’re so happy for her as a khantry 🥺❤️
You know she is South African simply based on how she intelligently yet carefully articulate her journey with this movie/project. The graceful Thosu Mbedu.
Because of course, only South Africans can "intelligently yet carefully articulate" things! 🙄
@@Laitalafraise Yes! Only South Africans! because you chose to take that from what was said!
Oorrrkay....only SAns can do that?
My goodness, she is stunning. (for all you millennials that's an old persons way of saying "hot")
Actually millennials know stunning. It's Gen Zs that might need a refresher
Her eyes are so beautiful! One could get lost in them.
Another truth.
The way she explains and describes her role, character and how she must distinguish herself from these two is 👌She's eloquent and fully aware of her assignment ❤️❤️❤️
She’s so smart...and an incredible actor too.
With a fake accent... Yes very authentic 🙄
@@optoms1178 wow jealousy suits you nicely 🤪 look at you

I'm so proud of her. I know her from Shuga!
Also perhaps MTV Shugas casting is on point because first Lupita now Thuso 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
Wow i had no idea they were both on suga
I do appreciate how this actress was actually respectful enough to do the research of our people instead of just learning the scripts then trying to portray our people.
She is so well spoken, beautiful and confident. I can listen to her everyday. I am super proud of our very own.
Congratulations Thuso, we are proud of you 🇿🇦🇿🇦
She is perfecto, talent, beauty, smile, and unfair dimples.
yes
unfair dimples bathong...
That's how we make them here at home lol...
There's something I like about Trevor's interviews that distinguishes him from other late night hosts.
One of the prettiest smiles I've ever seen.
The funniest thing about her accent is that we were just as shocked when we heard Charlize Theron's American accent the first time. I guess the accent has to change if you want lead roles in Hollywood. So proud of little Thuso 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Yup they hate everyone that doesn't sound like their family has been there for atleast last century
No no stop it!! Noone tells Edris Elba to change is accent. But he doesn't play parts that require it. Im American and if I play a role Black Panther 2 I need to use an accent. Thats theatre thats acting. Every actor knows this!
But this is not an American accent. Listen to how hard her T's are, very South African that.
But Trevor hasn't changed his
When English is not your first language and suddenly you're thrown in a country that speak it a certain way on the daily you can't help but mimic the dominant culture you find yourself in without even trying. I have a sister who is a white English South African who married an American and now speaks with an American accent. Before you know it you speak like them because that's all you hear on the daily.
I like how she mixes a little bit of isizulu when she speaks. 😂
Agh, pinch me! She is soooo cute like a 2 pound kitten, but she also morphs into such an intensely sad and weary character so convincingly. She and Trevor are so endearing together. You can see how proud he is like a brother. I wonder if he wouldn't be blushing like mad if this interview was an in-person one!!
You can't find anyone more adorable than Thuso, I am convinced.
Dang she foin...not just how stunning she looks, but her intelligence and insight...Boss Lady slays
Dear Trevor, Thanks for interviewing this insightful, thoughtful and accomplished young lady! It is apparent, her preparation for "Underground" prompted in her information and empathy re: the horrific and challenging experience of African Americans, which continue on to the present day! If I were much younger than my 73 years, I would likely immigrate away from this place without hesitation. Thank you Trevor and Thuso!
This, I agree.
Gorgeous South African accent..her and Trevor l, Elon and Zonzi!LOVE their ACCENTS 👏👏👏
Elon musk is from South Africa 😲

Man, you just can't help but be proud of South Africans making it around the world. I like the authenticity and how comfortable she is around her homeboy, I heard Thuso saying a Zulu word "Ukuthi" lol.
From Africa to the world. We are proud of you Thuso Mbedu 🙌🏿🙌🏿❤🇿🇦
Oh my Lord! She is so beautiful and charming that it hurts to know I'll never meet her. I exaggerate, but I have to watch The Underground Railroad now, just to see her act. 😁
CONGRATULATIONS!! So proud of our South African Queen Thuso!!! She’s absolutely amazing!!!!😍😍🇿🇦🇿🇦❤️
So happy for her. I first learned about her from the SAn Suga, and she was absolutely brilliant in that. You would forget completely that she was acting. Didn't hurt that that face is so beautiful too. I wish her the very best.
Congratulations Thuso! You are such a star! What a beautiful interview to listen to ❤️
So freaking intelligent and articulate!!!!!!! She's a force to be reckon with!!!!!
I remember watching Thuso live on a stage at Wilson’s Wharf, Durban Habour back in 2013. She and Mtho Zulu did a two-cast theatre show which we watched for an entire hour, no props whatsoever! A talented young lady indeed, I tear up seeing how far she’s come!!!
Everyone is complaining about her accent change. It’s ironic coz Trevor has a skit where he talks about how everywhere he went people were telling him not to change his accent when he first went to work in USA
I’ve always thought Thuso was a great actress and this proves it. 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦so proud
I’m so proud of Thuso 💃🏾❤️

She is GORGEOUS
She has accent and I love it... Guys keep on raising our flag high😭🤣🤣
I’m happy for Thuso. There was never a doubt in my mind of what she’s capable of doing.
About the accent? Well, she’s young. That happens
I don't think she's forcing it, I just think it's creeping in.. I remember when I moved to Pretoria to study, I found whilst having conversations with natives of Pretoria, their language and accent creeped it...
It's just slightly creeping in. Still sounds very similar to Trevor's.
@@madee764 Like Trevor?
Both of them sound way too Americanized.
Difference between Trevor and a SA accent:
ruclips.net/video/akCmpV45i0I/видео.html
@@agrid2608, naah definitely not American you can't place it anywhere in America. I lived in America for the first 17 years of my life and this is definitely not an American accent.
@@madee764 IF you lived in the US and South Africa you would definitely know which part of the inflection is American compared to South African English.
The fact that I provided a link should make it even more obvious. There are literally two people with the two varying pronunciations on the link. Trevor has increasingly Americanized pronunciations.
I have been following Thesu since MTV Shuga, She is incredible and I love her 💎🖤💯🥰
