A good start, its ok to put some roof nails in the ice & water. It will get nails through it when you put down the shingles anyway. I would recommend "nickle nails" for your synthetic underlayment as well, you need to make sure this stuff is safe to walk on, I've seen staples tear out hundreds of times.

Nobody ever told me to cut the ice and water shield into 10 foot strips, that would have made it a lot easier. lol. I tried to put mine up in one 44 foot strip, ended up cutting it in half to make it workable with one person though. Only had to put it on the dormer roof, I was told that the rest of my roof being a 12/12 pitch didn't need ice and water shield because it was so steep that water couldn't wick back up under the roofing. Good job guys. everything is moving along fast. :)

Thanks. I doubt we need it either. Tar paper forked fine for decades but we got to keep up with the times 😉. Slept in the house for the first time last night. Only the loft is insulated so we were all up there.

I wonder... In hindsight... If perhaps an iron would have worked to stick that water and ice barrier down. Not familiar with the product as far as its melting point goes... But I bet on low heat, an iron would have been the ticket. Not that I am any sort of authority... just conjecture.

We had ice and water shield installed during 50 degree day. Then it rained and water leaked through at OSB seams. Do you think it's an ice and water shield issue? Did it not adhere? Can it re adhere on some warmer days? Or does it have to be replaced?

I like the videos and enjoy your family. However, the "keep smiling" thing I am not crazy about. Sometimes one needs to express exactly what they are feeling. "Keep smiling" basically says no matter what turmoil might be going on inside let the world know you are "ok" or even better than ok, great. Smiling thru life when your personal life is falling apart is a recipe for disaster eventually. My mom kept smiling like everything was great, right up to the hour she had a breakdown. The following family therapy revealed her personal torment that she shared with no one. Everyone thought she was the most together, happy person they knew because she 'kept on smiling.'

Could you put a wood burning stove in the middle of your house? It would heat up the roof surface. You are going to need heat during your build. I'm thinking about a 2 ft by 2 ft platform on casters with a small wood burner sitting on top of a metal plate

FYI Grace Ice and Water Shield will stick like crazy down to low forties (probably even colder but I have used it at 39/40). Don't let it touch anything you don't want it to stick to especially itself!! It won't let go. I like to roll off just enough to get it going straight and true then go back and peel one half off carefully sticking it as you go--beware any wrinkles they won't come out easily if at all. Then go back and do the other side. By myself I can do fifty or sixty foot roof spans off full rolls. Done carefully it goes pretty quickly. With two people it is easy to have one rolling and placing the roll (using full rolls-yes they're heavy) while the other peels the backing off from underneath all in one go. Much quicker and actually gives a better result. I haven't used that blue stuff. Looks like a better walking surface but it sure doesn't stick like Grace. I am here in SE Alaska where it is extremely wet windy and at times snowy, a heavy coastal cement. Truly tests any roof system. Take care. Doug

Marty don't worry explaining ..get it secure first. Too dangerous on the ladder like that. The cherry picker lift would be safer to do this roofing.. this is really "living on the edge"..🙀

Hmm. Tough choice. Can't you find a second hand used scaffolding? Cheaper than rental cherry pickers. It can be used and reused again and again. Also dismantle ..
