  • Hiking the Boundary Trail aka Observatory Trail, second week of May 2024. What a hike, it started out in the hummocks and then relentlessly gained elevation. It is amazing how the hummocks are full of water, life, and vegetation only 44 years after the eruption created a blank slate here. For the day we hiked 10 miles and had 2200 feet of elevation gain, a few areas where sketchy with narrow tread and steep drop offs. The day was awesome, so glad I film hikes like these, they for sure make me happy and the memories fill me with joy :) Based on the people we passed while going up I estimate only 10-12 people made it to the visitor center this day, it was awesome being the only 2 people at the top, briefly 1 other person was present with us, we had the amphitheater all to ourselves. The Road to Johnston Ridge Observatory is closed until at least 2026 due to a landslide in May 2023 that took out the Spirit Lake overflow creek bridge. These videos are made in real time and not sped up or edited in any way, what I see is what you get. Please enjoy, subscribe, like, and comment :)

We did the Coldwater lake to the South coldwater end of May and that was over 12 miles. Beautiful hike and very easy on the first 5-6 miles just along the lake. After crossing the bridge, which is on the other side of the lake is all incline which was hard then it flatten up and since so high you can see Mt St Helens on a good clear day.

Thank you, this hike was incredible, fun to see the temporarily abandoned visitor center and be the only ones there.

A landslide in a creek caused flooding and washed out the bridge, I hope it gets fixed on time. That was the visitor center after being closed for 1 year.

Only the government can take two years to repair a road. While the offices remain full of managers at high salaries. And a political hood ornament runs for WA Commissioner Of Public Lands.

It is sad, so many areas in Washington have been abandoned due to road and bridge washouts. I would need 7 or 8 hands to count on my fingers all of the trails and campgrounds that are now not accessible.
