I love the zany humor in A Very Special Episode honestly, Garnet's deadpan delivery, Pearl's Mom Mom activated, and Amethyst making a guest appearance just to add onto Steven's plate, along with Steven being really tired and loopy just really makes A Very Special Episode great for those that missed the old season 1 humor.

Something I’ve realized is that Steven fears what he can’t fix. Even in the original series, in Mindful Education, Stevonnie’s hallucinations on Steven’s side are mainly gems he hadn’t been able to fix at that point, namely Jasper, Eyeball, and Bismuth. It’s also why Steven made a point to continually check up on Jasper in Future; he wanted to remove one example of him not being able to help someone from his head, because he fears not being able to be helpful. It’s also why he’s extremely paranoid about Eyeball and Aquamarine; he had to throw the former into the vast reaches of space (although he likely took comfort in the fact she’s still alive), and the latter was so unabashedly opposed to listening to what Steven had to say, more than any other gem he’s encountered. Perhaps that’s why he felt the need to insert himself between Lars and Sadie, just to fix something? He wants to be helpful and doesn’t know what he is without being helpful.

Hey Blue, if you don’t know what motion smoothing actually does, it is a feature on most TVs where it makes objects in motion appear to blurry as a way to correct hi-def screens. But it doesn’t always work for most of the objects, mainly cartoons, because when enabled, the cartoons will have this ghosting effect on them. This causes many cartoons to not have good quality since they’re animated 24 fps (frames per second). Hence why the Jasper said, “Everything looks so much better!”

I will agree that the super sad moment we’re a little more spread out in later seasons. But keep in mind about the production schedules for these animated shows. They usually only have a few weeks to write and storyboard stuff. So it makes sense that moments like those were a little more spread out, but they probably just didn’t have the time to do it as often.

She was likely given the wand because of her high status and reputation for completing the diamonds missions with ease and in a timely manner.
I like A Very Special Episode because it establishes that Steven has a savior complex. Since the start of the series, Steven wished to help everyone. Before, however, he only had to help a small city and a few gems on a constant basis. Now, being one of the leaders of an entire species as well as surrounded by thousands of new Gems, Steven's constant helpfulness is causing constant stress. I like this as it plays off protagonists always finding new problems and being the one who solves all of them.
